I work downtown, eat out for lunch most days and wanted to try a new place. It’s been a few months since I’ve eaten here but I remember it like it was yesterday… oh so tasty. I had the brisket, coleslaw and the potato salad. I couldn’t decide between the coleslaw and the potato salad so I got both. It was $ 10 even and came with a drink. The normal combo is $ 8 and comes with a drink.

Delicious food and amazing service, what else could you ask for? BBQ boss came out to my work yesterday and served us all some delicious pulled pork, chicken, and brisket sandwiches that were absolutely amazing. A big thank you from everyone at Bankers Life.

They rescued me from getting a sandwich at 711 and I will never forget them for that. I had 20 min to run and get a bite to eat before I died of hunger. I was going to run to 711 since it’s right across the street from our office building. BBQ Boss was outside the main entrance giving out flyers, I was so hungry but intrigued so I stopped to take one of their flyers. I thought they where just doing promo(Bob was awesome)… I mentioned I wish they had something with them they would totally save me from a horrible 711 pre-made, refrigerated atrocity… And like magic the back of their little truck opened and the glorious smell of BBQ hit me. SOLD!!! I took the pulled pork sandwich and I was forever hooked. I possibly order twice a week… So far the chicken and potato salad has been my fav. THANKSFORTHESAVEGUYS!!!

This place is delicious, I have had BBQ in Kansas City MO. The potato salad is far better then Phil’s, I wish they would open up a sit down restaurant.

I’d give this a 3.5 stars. 6 $ sandwich, 2 $ sides, 1 $ drinks. Get a sandwich and side, get a free drink. Free delivery to certain zip codes, we were lucky enough to have for free! The guy arrived ahead of schedule even, but since we weren’t’ ready yet, he was nice enough to double back around after dropping off someone else’s order. The sandwiches are a typical size, just enough to keep you satisfied. The bread is some sort of pretzel looking bread, but not salty. Lightly toasted, and easy to bite! I got the pulled pork sandwich with side of potato salad. The pulled port was really delicious, tender, came with tangy barbecue sauce. Other than that, it was a simple sandwich, just the meat and bread. The potato salad was alright, had a lot of cilantro and celery, which aren’t my favorite, but it had a nice creamy sauce layering it together.

I am the Director for an organization with approximately 80 employees. I ran into Bob from BBQ Boss while on a bike ride… he shared a sample sandwich I took home and it was fantastic. Break — we held a Workforce Enrichment(Off-Site) and ordered north of 50 varying sandwiches, sides and drink options. The price, quality, delivery to our location and customer service was OUTSTANDING and all for a flat rate of $ 8 per lunch… Highly recommend BBQ Boss and thank you for making our event extra special. Sincerely, ~ Brian M.

Super nice guys that run this food truck. The prices are fair and the food is delicious. Make sure to try the coleslaw, its to die for! Pretty cool that they will do free delivery as well for the 92101 and 92113 zip codes. Give these guys a try and support local business!

One of the girls in our office shared that she ran into BBQ Boss while out on an errand. «I smelled it first.» she described. and the enchanting smell encouraged her to rally up orders in our office for a fun Friday lunch. As she counted off the options of BBQ brisket, BBQ chicken, and BBQ pulled pork, my mouth watered in anticipation of a new and affordable lunch option around our downtown office. Food trucks, let alone BBQ carts, are unheard of during the M-F hustle and bustle in downtown San Diego. You might see one at an event down by the water. but you definitely won’t find anything around our office(near Horton) to expand your lunch options beyond fast food, expensive everything, or average-at-best cafes. As a girl who hails from the craze of downtown Los Angeles, where food trucks/taco stands/and BBQ carts are common, I was definitely on-board to give the San Diego version a try. It appears that the guys running BBQ Boss, drive around the downtown area to where they are called. It’s the cutest little golf-styled BBQ cart that is loaded to the brim with all their offerings. We called them around 10:00AM to come to our intersection for a meat-and-greet-and-eat(har har har) around 1:00PM. For having to maneuver the one-way streets and craze of downtown, I was impressed that they were on-time shy but five minutes. As mentioned above, the options were three sandwiches(brisket, pork, and chicken). They have a few side options which include homemade potato salad, coleslaw(also homemade I believe), and baked beans. I opted for the brisket sandwich, the potato salad, and a drink– steal of a combo at $ 8 flat. I also have to note that they were the two nicest guys I ever did meet. Service counts! I was very surprised with the quality. The sandwich was delicious. Thick cubes of brisket that were soft, juicy and well seasoned. wrapped up tight in a very unique bread that had an almost pretzel bun chew. A+ for no sauce on the sandwich directly. The only bit of «juice» was from the meat that soaked deliciously into the tasty bread. Not sure if they create their own BBQ sauce(it was provided on the side in a large condiment container) but it did have a familiarity about it that makes me think no. No matter, however, because it had the spicy/sweet kick most crave in a good BBQ sauce. Paired extremely well with the delicious bites of brisket and the bread. The potato salad was indeed homemade, and it had a «this is my grandma’s secret recipe» feel about it. VERY fresh, potatoes cooked well through(not soft and mushy, but not crunchy), and a good mixture of onions/celery. I am a fan of the potato salad. Other girls seemed to like the coleslaw and baked beans, but they didn’t elicit as much of a reaction as the potato salad did. Drink options are canned drinks(coke, Dr. Pepper, Lipton Iced Tea, Minute Maid Lemonade, etc.). Rounds out the filling and very tasty lunch. Helpful note: they take cash AND card! I HIGHLY recommend BBQ Boss. See the photos for their number and the photos from our lunch. It’s refreshing to have kind service and tasty lunch options for under $ 10 bucks(a girl can only eat so many $ 11+ dollar salads from Tender Greens). We posted their card on our lunch wall and added them to line-up. I can honestly say they are on the top of our choices, and we will likely order from them again. Great job to the owners. I expect to see you guys more around our office. There were definitely eyes of envy as we carted away our delicious eats. Solid 4 for the food. and the extra star for the great service.

I will definitely be a repeat customer! I ordered the brisket and baked beans. Delicious! The gentlemen serving the food were very friendly. Limited menu, but that’s because they’ve perfected what they serve. $ 8.00 for the combo, including tax, is a steal… especially in downtown!

I work downtown and rarely bring my own lunch so I eat out pretty much M-F. I was walking near intersection of 5th and B(Wells Fargo & BofA bldgs) and saw the little BBQ truck(kinda like a golf cart thingy). I had already heard good things so I stopped and boy am I glad I did. There are chicken, pork, and brisket options — I had chicken, co worker had pork. Both were DELICIOUS. The bread was perfectly soft but durable to hold up to the meat and sauce. The SAUCE was flavorful and I love that it came on the side so the bread doesn’t get soggy and you can put as much or little as you like. I am more of a savory than sweet person so bbq sauce is not my favorite but THIS sauce was balanced for both aspects and I happily poured it onto my sandwich. I chose beans, co worker had potatoe salad and the sides were equally yummy as the sandwich. You can’t beat this meal deal/combo price and the flavor and quality of the food is delightful. Right now the best way to find them is to call and get yourself to wherever they are at.. . you won’t regret it.

We had BBQ Boss deliver lunch for 12 to our work yesterday– and we’re very happy about it! Quality food and a great value. The order was spot on. We all loved the fresh pretzel buns. The pork was our favorite, but if the brisket were sliced or chopped instead of cubed, it would be a toss-up. We’ll definitely order again.

Best potato salad ever. Great sandwiches with sauce on the side, which I like because I like«just» the right amount of sauce. Awesome bread. I haven’t even tried the coleslaw yet, but I may not ever get to because I can’t get enough of the potato salad. And it’s really reasonable for what I’m getting. Very tasty. They deliver to my shipyard, lucky me!

I was walking downtown and saw a little truck with smoke billowing out the top. This wasn’t the nauseous exhaust from a moving truck, but the delightful smell of wood burning and meat slow-roasting. BBQ Boss, are you a food truck or a caterer? Regardless, for $ 8.00 I received a really delicious bbq pork sandwich, with bbq sauce, a fresh coleslaw and a canned drink.(I don’t normally like coleslaw but it seemed easier to transport than beans. Turns out BBQ Boss makes a tasty ‘slaw). The sandwich was served in sort of a hot dog looking bun but was crisper on the outside like a pretzel bun. They take credit card and cash. Give them a shot. Their flyer lists a number so I think they’ll deliver to your office if you can talk a couple of your friends into it as well.
