Not going to lie, my recollection of this place is pretty fuzzy. I remember coming in, getting a drink and they played some pretty good music. The bouncer was really sweet and complimented my hair. It’s not very big from what I remembered. Overall, a decent experience.

I have been coming to Barwest for over two years now and have always loved it, but have noticed some unsettling changes. Barwest was always my go-to spot because of the music played(mostly hip hop), and the casual club atmosphere, but over time this venue seemed to follow the House Music trend so my frequency here wained. The only real tie I have left to this place, with increasingly undesirable music and the loss of some key staff members and in their place some not so competent ones, is to Marcellous Freeman. I have always gotten a response from him in relation to a requests about Barwest and whenever I am in attendance I feel safe and taken care of simply because he is there. I did attend Bar West a few weeks ago for a friends birthday party and Marcellous was there and ensured we were taken care of and safe at all times, though I did have some trouble with some of the people at the door. I understand that the men and women at the door have a job to do but being rude is not in anyones job description. If it had not been for Marcellous my party and I would have been refused entrance for no apparent reason. Thankfully he was there to rectify the situation and ensure everything from that point on went smoothly. I would love to see this venue come back to playing more hip hop(preferably ONLY hip hop) as well as maintain a body of staff members who can effectively do their jobs while mustering the most positive attitudes possible.

Not sure how such a good looking place can be so little fun. It gets packed and so long as you enjoy catching elbows and not having enough room to dance… this might work for you.

I don’t go out much, but when I do, Bar West is my place. Marcellous Freeman and his security staff make me feel safe and comfortable. He is a class act and doesn’t miss a beat. The drink prices are ok but more drink specials would be great. I’ve been in the bar/club/entertainment business for 20 years. Family has owned various venues and I’ve done themed events and they’ve been a success. Marcellous, the DJ’s, and staff are great!

Always have a great time here. The staff Is really friendly. The music is great. Alex did a great job accommodating my party with a VIP table. Also they always have a good theme or promotion going one which adds a little extra experience to the night life scene in PB.

Was hoping that it would be more of a dance scene, it ended up being just a bunch of kids twerking on each other. We left after 15 min. Maybe it was just an off night? Good bar tenders though.

This was a pretty cool spot. Went there for my cousin bday… DJ was hot on the ones and twos. Females a lil stuck up not trying to dance but overall it was cool. I’m going try it again and see if it’s any better

So, are you an out of towner like me and in some cosmic way thinking about getting bottle service, BUT you aren’t sure if you should? Go ahead, just book it. This place is legit. I had a mission to provide the best club experience for my BFF aka the Bride-To-Be. Her only requirements were music and booze. Simple enough right? Meh, not so much. Finding the right venue in PB specifically was a lot harder than expected. Coming from out of town; you run the risk of being price gouged by certain places. Surprisingly, when compared to other venues, Bar West was reasonably priced! I found that emailing instead of calling yielded a faster response. There are 2 managers with the same name so make sure you know which one you talked to. It was slightly awkward having my group of 12 wait while 1 of the managers read through my text exchanges w/the other manager. Once inside, things shifted and we started having fun! The manager was nice enough and added some comps to my bottle. Most of the staff members here really added to my group’s experience. Our waitress was prompt and the runners kept refilling our ice and carafes. Even the bouncer went out of his way by letting me know that if anyone bothered my group, then to let him know so that he can take of them for us. That bouncer was a serious trip! The only negative experience was when one of my girls went to coat check something and got serious attitude from the attendant. There was definitely no need for that. All in all, everyone in my group had a great time here! Best part of going here? There weren’t any weird charges on my cc the morning after. Ya gotta appreciate the little things!

The staff is the best thing about this place… Poor doorguys have to deal with the worst people in pb… Kudos to them for not snapping…(they all deserve a raise, especially the head doorguy with the glasses, super cool) Heres a tip for the owner… Shut down, remodel, rename, keep the staff, get rid of the ghetto crowd … Would be a perfect live music beach venue(no rap = no shootings) Come on man, help clean up our beach

Thanks to the A M A Z I N G time I had a BW is Feb(already Unilocaled on it!) I went ahead and booked the entire club for my bday party and once again they were more than perfect! Shayna went well above and beyond her duties and ordered catering, decorated the whole place, found a photog, DJ and even had the staff dress up a bit to go along with our theme! Everyone who came raved about how great of a time they had and I know that a large portion of it was thanks to the entire crew that was there! I cannot say enough good things about them and anyone who gave them a shot would not be disappointed!

Kinda small and gets even worse when there’s a lot of people and no room to walk or dance anywhere. That gets annoying when you’re waiting in line outside and it looks like it’s poppin’ inside, but then you get in and it’s…not so much. When you’re walking around PB sometimes you can score a free drink and entry wristband, so take advantage.

I went here for my 21st birthday because all of my friends talked this place up like it was the best bar in San Diego! I ended up getting in touch with Alex for bottle service and he was extremely professional, friendly, and answered every last question I had before committing.(if you want bottle service here go through Alex! He is the VIP manager!) When we got to the bar we had to wait in line for about 5 minutes which was okay but it was kind of cold so I began to question the bar wear experience. After we got checked in, Alex walked us to our table when we were later introduced to our host Candace, she was the absolute best. She made sure I was taken care of and delivered when I asked her for something.(one thing that I will give is big ups to bar west for customer service! I didn’t have a single problem with any of the employees, which is a great experience, and totally worth paying 20% gratuity). The DJ there was playing your typical top 40 mix but it was bumping and everyone was singing and having a good Time. The only thing I hated was the amount of people allowed per table. I had about 7 people and we kept getting pushed into our space by the table next to us which had about 30 people. This caused me to have to call security a lot during the night. So my advice to bar west is learn how to maximize your rates to match smaller parties for the tables so that those who pay more can enjoy their experience. Other than that, you have your typical bottle rats who come up to you and attempt To start a conversation and ask for a drink. Also, lots of drunks here and no dress code. I saw someone wearing pajamas I think. Get the DJ some sort of fan, he looked like he might be suffering from heat flashes. Overall great place to have a good Time, staff is friendly, and just learn how to push effectively. Thanks again Alex and Candace!

The music is atrocious. The dj has no creativity what so ever. All they’re playing is some slow @$$ shit you can’t even really dance to. The bathrooms are like going to TJ where they have some random woman handing you paper towels and she expects a tip. The only redeeming quality of this establishment is that they have ample space to dance… probably bc their dj sucks… And I’m done.

I’ve never been to bar west but last night was just ridiculous! I got to the general admission line around 10pm there was no long line so I was hoping id be in pretty soon which did not happen! I waited in line for about an hour asked the security guard around how long was the wait going to be twice which first answer he gave me was«its going to be awhile». A couple minutes later I would say about 30min I asked again and he told me «be patient» but apparently if you knew the security guards you’d get in within 5minutes no problem. my friend got tired of waiting for 2 hours so he asked nicely if we were going in anytime soon which the answer was«most likely no so you guys should just leave» a waste of 2 hours in line waiting I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!

…oh god. THISPLACE. This used to be a decent place, but now its just… not… decent. They always let TOOMANYPEOPLEINTHISPLACE. Its always crowded and filled with the meanest girls I’ve ever met. Like ever, if I’m ever to get arrested its going to be because I’ve killed one of the many hoodrats that call this club/lounge«home». I’ve had girls throw up on me(fail 1), I’ve had girls spill drinks on me(fail 2) and had dumb hoes step on my toes and when I say«wow manners» the response is «well you should have moved».(FAIL3) oh yes, there is a fail 4. While being approached by a guy who asked what kind of drink I had, before I could answer am having my face shoved by some girl who claims Im hitting on her boyfriend. JESUS. I love that after these girls are obvious sloshy and need to be removed, if the bouncers believe theyre wearing something skimpy enough they get to stay. They love class here at bar west, obviously. The only time I’ll come here is if they are doing some type of theme party, cause those are fun. Like the slutty santa or the masquerade. Cause its still nice to dress up every once in awhile. Also, the service is slow at BOTH of the bars. they honestly don’t don’t take people in the order they arrive, but the drinks are relatively cheap. But the people that come here are trashy«newly» 21 year olds and the bouncers probably barely got their GED’s. If you pay cover, you’re an idiot. Don’t waste your time. NOSERIOUSLY, DONTDOIT.

Haha oh man. Bar west. Home of the strongest AMF ive had in San Diego. Incidentally, also the only place I have ever gotten kicked out of!(Embarrassing moment… never happening again. Ever.) Bar west is awesome because it has PB prices but a Downtown feel. Although still physically located in PB, they have left brotown far behind and have taken the weird teak off the walls and have done their best at creating that semi-dark, plush, strobe-lightey club atmosphere. The dance floor is far from huge but thankfully they never close it down, so although you risk a crowded one, there is always room to dance. Unless you have a table(which BTW they are actually VERY affordable compared to DT) don’t expect to sit down much after 11pm on a big night since the tables will be all bought up. Bathrooms are small and in the back, not a big deal and never a wait for guys; ladies — i’m sorry! Every time I walk by i feel like the line just gets longer. However again, sort of to be expected i guess. I’ll admit that security can be a bit tight here. Like I said this is the only place i’ve gotten kicked out of, although i think that was more of a bad mixture of a supe short girl and drinks, compared to simply too many drinks. Also there was a time when my group wanted to go in but one of the girls gave just the slightest hint of sass to the doorman and took his«drunk test» super sarcastically, and therefore she didn’t get in. However, like always, PEOPLE just respect the bouncers even if they’re dicks, and you’ll be just fine. Overall, a great place to come get your groove on. PARTICULARLY at Bar West show up before 10:30 for amazingly low, if not non existent cover, as well as the club being nice and empty so your group can get your drinks and everything very easily. Ps. The DJs here have never disappointed me. Ever. But ladies, please leave before 1:30am, Bar West is home to some really pro creepos that come out around 1am.

This has to be the worst douchiest bar not just in PB, or San Diego but the entire country. They try and sell tables with $ 100 bottles of sky. No matter what night you are here or how busy it is chances are you WILL wait in line only to have some Ed hardy wearing bro dog try and fight you. If you wear too much gel In your hair, crush it at your sales job, and/or have a cocaine problem this bar is for you. If none of those apply do yourself and you personal safety a favor and find somewhere else to go. **drops mic** I’m out

Why is it that every time I try to give this place a shot it doesn’t fail to disappoint me! Tonight was definitely the last time! The sweaty fat bouncer at the door was a complete douche bag! He literally begged us to go into the«club» even though we didn’t want to since it was empty! When we handed him our ID’s he started questioning us as if they were fake! Like WTF? When we answered all the answers correctly he demanded that we give him 3 signitures match. WEDIDN’T EVENWANTTOGOTHERE!!! He ended up confiscating my friends ID and obligating us to call it a night since we weren’t from town… don’t bother going there! It’s a joke… a crumby boring wanna be bar/club! Just stick to the bars on garnet! 3 strikes and they’re done. lets just say they ruined our weekend and I’m calling them every bad word you can think off… beyond pissed!!! Effing place! Grrr! DON’T BOTHER!!! You’ll regret it!!! NEGATIVE10STARS!

First off, the bouncers seem actually kinda nice. Maybe even kinda chill. I mean they do tell you to move away from the exit of the back patio if you’re chillin’ with the smokers. The drinks are fairly priced but one friend complained that the prices were not consistent when he ordered the same drink from a different bartender. This is a small venue. Don’t expect a big club in PB. A big selling point for this place is the THEMUSIC. I HEART the music! Kinda tired of just EDM and house all night? Come here to dance it out. The floor is small but who cares. You’re drinking and you’re just wanting to just have a good time. They play top 40 and some hip hop that really bring back the good times. Attire is mixed here. It is Pacific Beach so you really don’t see the full club attire that is generally at a club in Gaslamp. Pretty mixed crowd of people and attire. Oh yeah, I rarely give four stars for clubs but if the bouncers aren’t giving the @$$hole vibe and you LOVE the music that pretty much gets the essentials down. Drink prices will always be a little on the up in general anywhere you go unless you’re going to a dive bar.

I’m getting too old for this… Let me preface this by saying I’m 30 *GASP* Yes, yes, I know pretty old right? *rolling eyes* So this review will mostly likely not apply the the early to mid 20 somethings out there. This is better directed to the«older» crowd that is over the college crowd scene. Downside: 1. This place is the size of a bar, yet it’s passing itself off as a club. 2. Bunch of drunken girls climbing on top of everything(furniture, bar, men…) to dance and shake their«sexiness»(using this term loosely) 3. I saw about 2 fights break out 4. Countless obliterated wanderers(both men and women, I feared for their safety) I came on Industry Night and I really was expecting a better crowd, but it just didn’t deliver. I did like the light up foamy thingamajiggers they passed out, those were fun. Upside: 1. Good music… Yep, that’s it.
