BLUF: Very mediocre Mexican food granted it is in San Diego. While portions were large, the food was bland. Granted we just arrived into San Diego, my team and I decided to find some classic Californian Mex. One of my friends recommended Armondo’s and even though I noticed the average reviews, I decided to give it a try. First of all, as authentic as it seemed, I’m not all too sure if they understand the different Mexican entrees. I ordered their carne asada chimichanga and it was literally a chalupa. Also, one of my teammates ordered a five taco meal and it was just taquitos hidden under beans. The food was decent. It was meat heavy which was nice and the meat was juicy but the lettuce was not as fresh as I expected and their sides were literally a scoop of sour cream and guacamole. Acceptable food but won’t be rushing back.

Really disappointed. I called this morning and ordered a chorizo, egg, potato, and cheese burrito. I got there, no one acknowledged me for 5 minutes. Then I paid more than the advertised price for the burrito, which I didn’t mind because I assumed that was the premium for adding cheese and potato. Once I opened the burrito, not only was there no cheese and potato, it was also almost impossible to eat because it was nearly all chorizo and so crumbly. Definitely will not be returning.

Worst mexican food ever. I try giving them a chance but always disappointed. Even the fish burrito who put lettuce in a fish burrito? Even mexican food in the east coast is better then this.

Love armandos it’s super close to my job so I frequent this location for lunch. I always get the carne asada fries half order(which is pretty large I can never finish) for only 4.95! What a steal and the carne asada is always seasoned great! Didn’t give 5 stars because I’ve only had one thing from the menu but I’d definitely try other items!

I stop here around once per week to have the Carne Asada fries, to share with my old co-worker. We are both grown men, and the portion is big enough to feed us until full. It isn’t very expensive either. It is typical décor, and ample seating. The price of a can soda will get you, though. All in all, the Carne Asada Fries are delicious, and I have recommended this place to other friends in the area.

Three little words. Carne Asada Fries. My boyfriend is from San Diego and raves about these fries and California burritos. During Christmas break I was able to get my hands on some. DELICIOUS. The best carne asada fries in California. Everyone else is trying to make them a thing but nothing compares. They don’t play with the meat portion like other restaurants, there’s plenty of juicy succulent carne asada versus a few scraps. The guac was perfect and the salsa verde they have to drizzle on top was the perfect combination of spicy and zesty. Definitely willing to drive down 4 hours to get some more soon!

Fish taco is subpar. The fish was not soft and flaky at all. The tortilla fell apart when I picked it up. Won’t order again. Bacon burrito was huge! Probably weighs at least 1 lb. It was not bad for the price. May order again…

Wish I could give it more. My burrito was good, but the cashier was just horrible when it comes to customer service. Felt like we were were bothering her. Only reason we went inside despite the low Unilocal rating was because on Saturday, everything else is closed and we had to wait for our Tesla to charge. Oh and when you have the voice of a pterodactyl, don’t sing.

The food is decent. The portions are really large, and the service is prompt, which makes this a convenient place for lunch. However, the service is terrible. The cashier is yelling at everyone and rushes you if you’re taking too long to order(as in, taking more than 10 seconds). She throws me the receipt and pen when I’m signing the receipt after a card transaction. And she also gets mad at people for not being fast enough to grab their order when it’s ready.

It is amazing how well they run the lunch rush hour! The service is prompt and the food quality does not degrade. The burritos are large enough to split or save for later. My favorite is their adobada torta. I wish their hot sauces were spicier, then I wouldn’t have to use so many of the little to go plastic containers.

I had a craving for a breakfast burrito and decided to try this place out. They are conveniently located in a business park strip mall off of Pacific Heights Blvd. in Mira Mesa. Please note that this strip mall can get quite packed around lunchtime and the spaces are small so get there early! I walked in and there were a couple of guys ahead of me chatting it up with the young female cashier using somewhat questionable language which is fine since they appeared to know the cashier. The funny part is when they walk away and the cashier yells«adiós chingados» assuming that I don’t know or understand what she said. While that wasn’t the most professional thing to do, I laughed it off as I wasn’t expecting her to say that! On to the food. I got the burrito, took it back to my office, and really enjoyed it! Everything was cooked just right. They also have lunch and dinner items and if you want to eat there, they have plenty of tables inside. Look forward to trying this place for lunch or dinner one of these days. See you guys next time!

Mexican food in San Diego is a plentiful and affordable but here in Sorrento Valley I beg to differ. Yes we are in the middle of what seems to be a million businesses but certainly no right to price gouge for food. I ordered a burrito for my fiancé and had them leave off salsa and guac but added cheese a little bean and rice. My original burrito cost $ 6.20 and no reduction in price for forgoing salsa and guac but added $ 3.60 for the cheese bean and rice.($ 1.15 cheese and $ 0.75 each for bean and rice.) Very small portion added to burrito mind you. On a side note I was charged $ 0.65 for adding a small amount of lettuce to my 3 rolled tacos. Really??? A head of lettuce is like $ 0.99!!! The main reason I’m adding this review is not because this specific incident… But rather for many past incidents that myself and co-workers have encountered.

Well, I’ve been here twice. The first time was during the lunch rush so I gave the service leeway. Burrito took a minute the first time and I had it to go. It was good. This time, however, there were 2 people sitting in the restaurant. I walk in with a smile on my face ready to order a burrito. 1 woman was counting money at the register, the guy standing next to her and another woman by the other register looking around. The cooks were just standing there. I said«Hi» and no one answered… the woman counting the money didn’t even look up at me. I sat there smiling and a bit confused as to who I was supposed to be talking to place my order… or maybe they didn’t see me standing there? Am I a ghost? Did I die and not realize it? I begin to question my own existence. The man finally responds. «Go ahead» … I smile and say«California Burrito, please» the woman counting the money begins to mumble in Spanish. Insulting the fact that I did not place my order in her language. She asks that I repeat my order, in Spanish. I responded in English. She repeats it in Spanish and only speaks to me in Spanish. I continue to respond to her in English as I think it’s rude whenever anyone assumes anything about me. She asks me to repeat myself until I finally respond in Spanish. I get my burrito in 2 minutes which was a bit suspicious as even the fast food places I’ve been to don’t offer such speedy service. The cashier tosses my burrito on the counter as opposed to handing it to me. I’m not sure what I did to upset her so much. Caught her at the wrong time. But I didn’t come in to fight. I came to eat. I smile and said«Gracias!» To review the burrito, my suspicions were correct. It did come out too quickly. The burrito had to have been sitting there for a while. The tortilla was hot but the insides were cold. There was an off taste to the onions. And the fries were stale. I did not feel good after a few bites. Didn’t have that nice crunch. It was all like, soggy and no bueno.(see how well my Spanish is?) I’m very disappointed.

I used to be able to get 5 rolled tacos here for $ 4. They raised the price, since i’ve been gone, and now they charge $ 6 Their food is decent, but you definitely aren’t paying for the flavor of the food, you’re paying for the prime location that it is in. I would not be coming here if it was not a 2 minute walk from where i work. But besides all the negative stuff. there is one positive, one of the cooks in the back gave me a free soda, and that made it somewhat more ok, for the mediocre food.

Only been getting the Carne Asada Fries and the Carnitas Fries here. I always often the half portion because full portion is just way too much food for one person. Ends up being under $ 5 which is not bad of a price. Many suckers have been ordering the full portion which brings it up to over $ 7 bucks. It’s alright food and I only would come here if I really don’t have time to go out and eat as it’s close by to work.

Where have you been Golden Restaurant of Mexican Goodness??? This place is right across the street from where I work a a GOLDMINE if you work in the area. I had a breakfast burrito for lunch, because why not, and it was as big as my head. Ok, maybe not that big, but it was definitely huge. Their prices were incredibly reasonable as well, paying between $ 5 – 7 dollars for a burrito that can EASILY make two meals. Oh — And Fast Friendly Service.

If this place weren’t in Qualcomm Valley, then it may receive a lower rating, it’s worth a ½ to 1 star bump because of its location. Around here is a no mans land of food. Except for this little island of restaurants surrounded by Qualcomm and other sorrento valley businesses. I can walk here… That’s a big plus. The food is decent… No awards for the best taco shop in SD, but let’s face it… Even a mediocre taco shop here in SD is going to beat the pants off of Mexican food in 99.9% of the rest of the country. If I lived in Phoenix, and this place was 30 miles away, I’d make the drive for a burrito. But in SD, in the land of yellow sign taco shops and poorly labeled tip jars… This place is just«okay». The service is quick during the midday rush. Sometimes my food is a bit cold, but still delicious. If I have some time and feel like driving, I can get to a better taco shop within 10 minutes… But I gotta get back to work.
