Mother’s Day is just around around the corner again and you know what that means… It’s the return of the American Indian Culture Days Pow Wow in Balboa park for a weekend of fun for the entire family. Every year thousands of Native Americans and Non-Native visitors to Balboa Park. It’s an important and annual celebration on Mother’s Day that celebrates a culture that has been around for generations. Follow the steady beat of buffalo hide drums and Bird Singers and find yourself in the midst of a great celebration of culture and traditional foods. Jump in line and order some Fry Bread prepared either as an Indian taco filled with beans, meat, lettuce, tomato & cheese or drizzled in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar or treat yourself to some mutton stew. Don’t miss the gourd dancing(11am) followed by the Grand Entry(Noon). This is when Native Dancers all enter the arena to dance in their traditional regalia. There are always about 40 vendors to browse and shop from as well as children’s crafts for the little one’s. Best of all there is no entrance fee or ticket to purchase to attend.
