CLOSED. Although I originally gave them 4 stars, they went totally downhill this year. Something about gambling debt. Too bad. It was really good before.

My family has been coming here since I was a child(the owner previously worked at another restaurant and we follow him). Owner is SUPER nice and the staff is fine too. We’ve NEVER had any problems. Most importantly, we LOVELOVELOVE the food and the prices are extremely reasonable, if not cheap. The quality and taste is exceptional. The restaurant itself is spacious and looks clean to me. I saw another review that said they closed down. If that’s the case, I can’t tell you how incredibly disappointed I am. I really hope it’s not true.

We found an inch long piece of steel wool in my 5 year old sons soup. Thank god he spit it out. The owner did not apologize, but instead in a polite tone, said there were 2 things he couldn’t control — steelwool, used to clean woks, and«about 30 hairs a day». I’m tongue tied. The food is average and the kitchen is unkempt, seen enroute to the bathroom. Never coming back.

Went there with a Groupon they would not honor but they offered 20% off. Since we were hungry we stayed — now I wished we would not have. It was one of the worst restaurant experiences we ever had to the point where we started laughing about how ridiculous it was. After the Groupon was declined it took a long time for the waitress to return. We ordered our food and waited… and waited… and waited. A couple who came after us in got their food long time before us. We watched the waitress folding napkins while sneezing and wiping her nose with the back of her hands YUCK. Finally our food came — well not all the fish dish was missing, but we started. The sesame chicken was mainly batter with little chicken in a sticky bad tasting sauce. The Eggplant Garlic was just bland. The kids started eating mainly rice because the other food just tasted bad I had pretty much nothing. When we were almost done eating the fish dish arrived. As the waitress was approaching I smelled the fish — BAD. Despite that my husband sampled it, but I could not stand the smell and started gagging and had to leave the restaurant. And if the bad food was not enough… the TV was running in the back when we arrived. When the owner /manager came about 20min into our visit he turned up the volume of the Chinese news to the point where I could barley have a conversation with my daughter across the table. Than he started a conversation with a patron but had to over shout the TV, while yelling to his staff who yelled back. There are plenty of other options for good Chinese food out there. I would not go back even if I could eat for free. The food is bad, the place is dirty and the service is ridiculous.

It was my first time coming in here and as we sat down nobody came to our table to hand us menus. We tried to get the waiter’s attention to give us menus and when he finally came over to our table he picked a menu from a random table and only handed us one menu when there were two of us! I thought the waiter was going to look for another menu but he just stared at me as he walked away into the kitchen! Since I was already hungry I just ignored it. When it was time to order, we ordered broccoli beef with fried rice but asked if we can substitute the fried rice with something different and he told us ‚“no because the rice is already pre made and we couldn’t change it”. He didn’t even apologize that we couldn’t do that! He straight up said«No! We can’t do that!» He sounded upset that we even asked the question! So we just ended up getting steamed rice. Then I ordered shrimp chow fun with egg and when I finally got my order the chow fun plate looked as if someone vomited on my plate! The broccoli beef looked better than the chow fun except the rice(not fried rice) covered the plate more than the broccoli beef itself! I won’t be coming back here! Rude service! Gross food! Thumbs down! Remember guys, first impression is always important!

What do you want? If it’s great, fresh food, then Henry’s Garden is one of the best in all the Bay Area.(I would say tied with Gin Mon.) However, if you sit long in the restaurant you’ll soon realize they must be making most of their money on take out, because the seating is never full, and people are coming in and out picking up orders. I love Henry’s Garden and almost always eat in. The food is fresh and not greasy. I haven’t had a bad menu item yet, and I’ve had a LOT of different options. If you read other Unilocal reviews, most people’s complaints have to do with service. And, i agree, service is a bit slow and does not«feel» friendly. We are regulars and always get greeted by the owner, and a couple of the waitresses know us enough that we can joke around a little bit and occasionally get a smile. If you want to pay for great atmosphere, you may want to go some place else. If you want to pay a reasonable price for great food, this is the place to go. I have been many times and will continue to go, and go, and go!

Good down to earth Chinese food. There are real Chinese cooks in the back(I can hear them laughing). Whole you’re not going to get the most warm and fuzzy service, you’ll get good Chinese food.

Spare yourself the heartache. This place sucks. I will never order from them again. Here’s why. Dry Sautéd stringbeans, ordered without soy sauce do to allergy, came drenched in soy. Did they even READ the order? Wor Wonton Soup had no flavor, the broth had absolutely NO taste, just watery. The Walnut Prawns had no flavor, how do you screw this up?! The hot and sour soup was like drinking pure oil. Had very little actual flavor except for pepper. Finally the chicken with salted fish fried rice was the only tolerable dish until you hit GIANT pieces of salted fish. Don’t get me wrong, I like salt and I like this dish usually, it just seemed that the pieces of salty fish were larger than the chicken. This is one of those times, I wish I could only give a place .01 star. They would deserve it.

I really like the pot stickers and mu shu chicken… BUT… The place is dirty and unkept.(And each time I come here I swear I won’t be back.)There is a huge area at the front door that used to be a bar and a fish tank, and it’s just a mess of stuff. The carpet is disgusting,(disgusting!!) the report from the health inspector is hiding behind the cash register. And if you sit by the windows there are dead flies. They are always busy and should have money to keep the place up. But then even the owners car has huge dents all over it. Some clean up would do Henry’s good!!!

«Walkers» from the Walking Dead would not eat here! This place is terrible and I believe the only people who gave it 3+ stars are related to the owner or rich vegetarians who don’t look for value and lacking taste buds! I bought a combination plate for $ 8.99 that had fried prawns, chicken and sweet & sour pork. Two prawns, while grammatically correct, should not be considered fried prawns from a consumers point of view. The same can be said with the sweet & sour pork because, I had maybe 4 pieces of pork. But if you’re really into a lot of onions, bell peppers, and pineapple, then this dish is for you. The same with the chicken dish, lots of celery and zucchini, but only a few pieces of chicken. Oh, but they were very generous with their fried rice. So, if you decide to go, just remember you won’t even see«Walkers» eating there because this place stinks!!!

Besides being our favorite Chinese restaurant in San Carlos, this has become our go-to restaurant when we don’t have a dinner plan. We eat here or take out at least once every month, and have for the past three years. The menu is huge, and we’ve found many items that are just excellent. You can look at my older reviews for details, but among are absolute favorites are the Fish Fillet with Tender Greens and the Wor Wonton Soup. Service in the restaurant tends to be very good. Their food takes out well, but they’re not always accurate on their times so I’ve had to wait for takeout too many times, which is the only reason I don’t rate this place 5 stars.

The reviews for this place seem incredibly polarized, I have to be on the nice end. I was suspicious when I checked in and saw the 3 stars but went ahead anyway. I really appreciated the different plates that they offered at different price points– it was just my mom and I so it was nice to have more than one or 2 items but not an overwhelming portion. The service wasn’t great, but for a $ 16 meal I’m not going to criticize. The food was GOOD. I have never been to China so I have no qualms about this not being«authentic». We had a great soup and plenty of water. $ 16 for a quick lunch is just about right for me. I will be back.

I’ve been here twice with the Grandma, Wife, and Girls, and both times I found the food to be very standard ‘Chinese’ food that you’d get from a strip mall in Kansas. I had the broccoli with shrimp which dripped with monosodium glutamate, and the shrimp with lobster sauce had a lobster sauce that looked like motor oil. Their wanton soup was good with soy sauce in it, and I will say the fried rice was tasty. Their drink menu is awful. Diet Coke, Budweiser and Sunny Delight seemed to be the only choices, and I saw wine in the refrigerator but I wouldn’t try it. If cleanliness is next to godliness, then they are agnostic. The table area was fine, but the trip to the bathroom was cluttered with boxes and assorted crap. Top it off with service that was definitely sans smile, and especially annoying was that we had no menus brought to us, the food came at odd intervals, she didn’t ask us if we wanted drinks. I can bet that my next visit here will be in a different incarnation.

This is the worst Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area I’m sure. Don’t waste your time. Staff was shouting loudly to each other and gossiping at the top of their voices(yes, I speak Chinese) and sneezing onto our napkins before laying them on the table. Food was terrible. As we left they complained loudly among themselves how the foreign-devils had not left a good tip. If I could give ZERO stars I would.

I had a train wreck delivery experience. They quoted 45 – 60 minutes. It actually took 1 hour and 50 minutes for delivery. When the driver got here he called me. I live in a condo complex, so I wasn’t surprised that he needed a little help finding the right building. However, he kept saying useful things like«I’m here, can you come out and get the food?» I asked him to please come to the building, but he wasn’t able to tell me anything more useful than«I’m here.» He ultimately got it sorted. When he got to the door, he kept telling me how smart and nice I was. While I appreciated the utterly weird compliments, I really just wanted to eat my extremely late lunch. The food itself was mediocre and not especially hot. I’d given them another chance if they were just a little late, but delivery food that could be an hour late is unworkable.

Took them over an hour to deliver to our office for a lunch meeting. That is unacceptable. Especially when they told us the delivery time would be 30 minutes. When we called, they said the food was still cooking. This is for a company executive! Pretty sure we’re not using them again. And I know I will not use them in my personal life again either. They were also about an hour and a half late delivering my food, and when I opened my bag half the contents of the bag were spilled. I will travel the extra distance to pick up Gin Mon! Better food all around!

I have enjoyed the food here, but tonight the service killed the deal. I ordered delivery, set to be delivered around 6:30. I called at 6:45 and I was told the driver was out and then hung up on. I called back at 7:15 and they said the order was about to go out — give them five minutes and again — hung up on. I called back at 8pm and was told the driver was out, give him 2 minutes. And — you guessed it — hung up on again. Still no food. Total fail on the ability to call the driver, figure out where an order is and clearly communicate it.

I was in San Carlos taking care of Business and was Famished. Henrys Garden. happen to be a Block Away. So I rolled there. I was able to park in their private lot. I rolled in and grabbed a table. It took a few minutes for the Waitress to notice me. When she did she brought a Menu and a Pot of Hot Tea. I perused the Menu and ordered The Appetizer Sampler and Malayasian Chow Fun . My Appetizer Sampler came 15 minutes later. The Egg Rolls were ok. I wasnt to fond of the Dumplings., The Fried Chicken Wings were ok. The Malayasian Chow Fun came 20 minutes after the appetizer plate. It was Pretty Tasty. It had a nice Spiceness to it, I would order it again. I was brought a Fortune Cookie and my Bill. I paid by Visa and rolled out.

When my teeth are gritting in a faux smile around noon in San Carlos, that means my boss asked me to lunch. The last time we had Chinese it was terrible and I at first thought we were going back to the other place. Instead she came here. The owner was very nice and knew her as a regular, which can be good or bad if you knew my supervisor. We both ordered the C4, Almond Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork with Pork Fried Rice. I must have been hungry because I ate the entire plate. Cleaned it in fact. The service was slightly pushy but maybe because it was lunch time and it was a busy place. We were in and out in a few moments. Almost like we got to go actually. That’s how fast my memory of this lunch too. For a fast, good lunch its worth a stop by.
