The last of a great breed of industry supply stores. I’ve always found the tools i needed, prices are reasonable, and their domain knowledge is un-matched. We were having problems turning stainless and he suggested a better approach. He didn’t even sell us anything that time. Check out the antique wooden clock makers’ lathe from Germany I think. I wonder if he got that new(big grin) LOVETHISPLACE — brings back the old time feeling of living in the bay area.

There are very few machine tool suppliers on the Peninsula, but this is one of them. It’s a small, family run shop, but they carry an extensive range of tools and products. The best aspect of this place is the husband and wife team that run it. They are incredibly knowledgeable and share their knowledge freely. They’re also fun to talk with. The tools(and tooling) they sell are always of high quality. Even though their prices are noticeably higher than their big online competitors, it’s often worthwhile to be able to walk in, ask a few questions, check out the physical product, and walk out with it – all within a few minutes. Other customers are sometimes willing to give advice if asked, as well. There’s a close knit community that seems to surround Dan-Mar. If they don’t have what you’re looking for, they can probably order it for you, and their extensive experience has gotten me out of a few jams, particularly in trying to track down tooling or inserts for discontinued or obscure product lines.

This pace is *incredible* It is a great well-stocked shop with helpful people in the store. I go in there frequently for tools and have the utmost respect for the store and the people who run it.

This place has quite a bit of character and is stocked with just about everything. I needed a mill bit and all the online retailers couldn’t get it to me in time for Friday when I needed to do my machining. I found out about this place through from the techshop and they highly recommended it. The owners are very nice and extremely knowledgeable. Great place and I hope it sticks around.

Lets face it… We live in a day and age where the little specialty shop can no longer exist. With the age of the internet it is outstanding that a small shop like Dan-Mar Tool is around. It’s hard enough to find a reasonable hardware store these days due to the Home Depots and Lowes of the world. Well it is about three orders of magnitude harder to find a specialty store that just caters to machinists. I’ve been ordering my stuff on websites like and and finding it very annoying that I have to buy without actually seeing the item I’m purchasing.(Don’t even get me talking about shipping…) Anyway, a friend of mine told me about Dan-Mar so I went down to check it out. They have a great selection of everything machine shop related and as far as I could tell the prices were at least on par with the online options. The owner of the shop is a really friendly fellow and a former machinist by trade so if you need some advice or something special this would be the place to go. This is a tremendous find!
