I’ve actually been a customer at spiral for many years now given how close it is to me. And being super picky and selective about Japanese food, I actually think spiral is pretty decent for the quality and price. The have gone through some remodeling in the restaurant and had a major update on the menu which of course saw price hikes. With that said though, I do think the quality went up as well so I can justify the price increase. From the times that I’ve visited, I remembered the fish being fresh and there were some really nice flavors on some of their dishes(most notably the appetizer dishes). Overall I think this is one of the better Japanese choices in the area, not counting Amami and Gintei which I categorize as more high end choices.

I feel like this place is decent for the quantity and price. Their bentos are really reasonable for dinner and you can choose either a 2 or 3 item combo for less than $ 15(I don’t remember the exact price but 2 item was around $ 10 for dinner). I personally like their tempura and salmon teriyaki. The place looks nicer after their remodel. I go here because there’s almost never a wait too and they serve the food fast. I use to go to Akagi that next door but it’s always so crowded there and their prices are more expensive!

RACIST! RACIST! I am appalled and have never in my life not even from my favorite Chinese restaurant ever been treated this poorly compared to the Asian patrons. My family and I decided to eat at Akagis but they were closed so we said fine we will eat at spirals, we ordered our food and was given cold water and it is 56 degrees in San Bruno, ok and Asian man and his girlfriend come in and get hot tea and their meals were served before ours, when we finally get our food there is barely any chicken on our plate and it is full of fat, how can I feed my baby«fat»!!! Looking at everyone else’s plate in the restaurant everyone had full bento boxes, I felt like we had the scraps that you give to dogs, I guess they do not like Italian families or Latino families. When we were leaving all the staff and cooks looked at us and we’re laughing, wtf??? Bad bad people they do not deserve the American dollar, not even in Chinatown they are this rude.

I tried Spiral for the first time yesterday with a group of coworkers. We called about 30 minutes in advance to let them know that a group of 16 people was on the way. When we got to the restaurant, the table was all set up and our orders were taken within a few minutes. Most of the group ordered from the lunch menu, which included 2 or 3 item bento boxes for $ 11-$ 14, different types of noodle soup dishes, and more. While waiting for our food, we snacked on edamame. Surprisingly, our orders came out quickly, considering the size of our party. I had the 2 item bento box with chicken teriyaki(dark meat!!) and salmon sashimi. The serving size was pretty decent for a lunch order and the sashimi slices were quite thick. Service was quick and friendly. Overall, I was happy with the experience. I’d come back again!
