El Tepeyac is a small, sit down, restaurant that serves your typical Mexican food: tacos, burritos, sopes, tostadas, etc. Since I was in a rush, I only stopped in to grab some(what are now commonly known as «street») tacos: carne asada, carnitas and cabeza(head). The tacos were all on the salty side and each came topped with onion, cilantro and a green sauce. Unfortunately, the green sauce really overpowers each taco so that they all basically taste the same — like meaty green sauce. The tacos weren’t terrible, but they weren’t amazing either, and at $ 1.49 each, I’ve had better. This seems like a nice little place that I’d like to check out a few more times, however, I’ll have to be willing to face the bombardment of «do you have a quarter» from the many(and I mean MANY) local drug addicts/drunks/homeless lounging and walking around the parking lot. The location of this place almost had me going two stars… Sad.

I was searching for a Wet Carne Asada Burrito since my old Wet Burrito spot changed their recipe, and not necessarily for the better. Wifey was craving her usual BRC(BeanRiceCheese) Burrito. I hadn’t been here in years, but I remembered it had some solid Burrito Mojado game, so I drive by, hoping this place was still in business. It was, and just as I remember it. In a ghetto little strip mall full of undesirables walking around. Next to 7 – 11 and a Phở spot that I have yet to try. Pulled in just in time to watch a john pick up a trick. Good Times. Walked in the place, and checked out the menu. Since we knew what we wanted, it didnt take long. Took a seat at what looked like a clean table. Until I dipped my elbow in some old guacamole. Cleaned myself up and wiped the table myself. Wasnt really feeling it until the chips and salsa came. Then my mood started to change… The Chips and Salsa are REALLY good! The chips are thin and crispy, well salted. But the SALSA! This is some really tasty salsa! Loads of flavor and plenty of heat. Not instant«burn your lips off» heat mind you, gradual heat. The type that creeps up on you after you’ve had a dozen chips or so. I didn’t mind at all, I just kept grubbing. But the Wife was burning up, and even hiccuped a few times. Cool, more for me. Then our tacos came. The Wife ordered a couple of Carne Asada Tacos. I sampledthem and was happy that I was going to have some carne of my own in a minute. The meat was great, but the tortilla stole the show. Smooth and buttery, just like abuelita used to make. I ordered a Cabeza Taco. It was good, just not the best Ive ever had or anything. Standard Cabeza Taco. Greasy, fatty, and tasty. Once again the tortilla was fantastic. My Wifes BRC came. She was actually not impressed with her food, except once again, the tortilla. She really likes the tortillas here she wouldn’t shut up about them. But the beans, and rice were stale and tasted kind of old. My Wet Carne Asada was great! THIS is what I have been craving all week! Craving: Satiated. Imagine some juicy, marinated, steak bits, with pico, a little beans, wrapped in a silky-smooth tortilla, immersed in red enchilada sauce, covered in molten cheese. Oh yeah, SO good. I wont be waiting ten years before coming back here again! The Horchata was homemade, I believe. Very good but very sweet. The staff was indifferent, probably due to the language barrier. The place needed to be cleaned up a bit. Of course I got hit up for change on my way out. Got the usual«God Bless You» when I said no.

You got to try their El Tepeyac Special Burrito with Chile Verde meat inside and the red chile sauce on the outside. This place should not be confused with other places with similar name because they are making a name for themselves.

El Tepeyac is located in a run down strip mall, sharing a parking lot with a liquor store and a Phở shop. I stopped in here a little after 4 p.m. on a Tuesday. It was out of the whole fish, so I ordered the camarones platter, which came with rice, beans, salad, chips and tortilla for $ 12.99. $ 1.50 fee if you pay by credit card. This is an unassuming restaurant. The food came out fast. Everything was very good. I would stop by here again.

Ahhh misery my friend where have you been? Well it was a toss up… eat at Phở Mai my tried and true Vietnamese restaurant or go around the corner and try the little Mexican place out for a change… I chose the latter. Now I’m paying for it with stomach cramps and diarrhea the likes of which I haven’t had since responding to the earthquake disaster in Haiti. Upon leaving I was going to give it two and a half stars because the guy at the counter was so nice. But alas my stomach and backside won’t allow it… the burrito was ok, the fish taco was horrid, the sope was ok, the guacamole was disgusting. If you want to lose weight utilizing the third world diet enjoy yourself; however if painful cramping doesn’t sound fun, STAYAWAY!

Great little hole in the wall for authentic Mexican cuisine. There salsa was spicy and delicious. Had a chicken wet burrito and it was great, no fat all shredded chicken and there sauce on top was to die for. If your looking for some where fast and inexpensive, this is the place. So if your passing through, stop by just like I did.
