Started training for a half marathon in jun of 2012 for the leukemia and lymphoma society. Around mile 4 I got excruciating hip and back pain. I spent a few thousand dollars seeing this doctor and the physical therapist in her office. She did everything but an MRI on my back. My pain NEVER got better, despite doing absolutely everything she said. I wasn’t a runner to begin with, but quit immediately. Fast forward five months later and I went to a new doctor. I couldn’t afford to keep throwing money at this place, when nothing was helping. New doctor did an MRI of my back, and surprise! I had a severely herniated disc in my low back, which explains the hip and back pain. Why didn’t she order this simple test, after months of my not getting better? I mean, the hip and back are connected. It is rare that pain in one doesn’t mean a problem with the other. My advice is to find another doctor. She was very nice, but to miss something so simple is sort of frightening. I even wore a back brace!
