What a beautiful campus! I always look forward to their Christmas lights as well! We attended a play at the University this weekend, and the students put on a great show. Very much enjoyed the experience!

Every year, Light the Way is a must-​do. It’s how my family gets in the spirit of the season and something we have always enjoyed. Yes, it’s tradition for us. This year, construction impeded on part of the display on the side of UIW that faces Broadway but you would still be okay if you entered through the Hildebrand gate. During previous years we would just drive but this time we felt compelled to park and walk around. There were people everywhere posing under or by the lights and so it was sometimes difficult to get a decent picture (especially with the lights on from all the cars) but once everything started to die down, it was fairly easy to get a good shot. It’s definitely a relaxing place to be.

This is a review of the annual Christmas light display.
I absolutely love looking at the magical display of twinkling lights. Always puts me in the magical mood to enjoy the amazing gift of Jesus given to us by our loving God. That is the best gift ever given.
I like to park and get out and walk to look at the lights. I feel a more a part of things and get a much better view than I get driving through. This is something I have to do at least once a season or my Christmas would not be complete. I especially love the nativity seen. After all this is for Christmas. :-)

Looking beyond the nonsensical tuition, and being charged for literally everything. Aside construction problems and ridiculous student parking problems. My undergrad years at UIW are positive. From unique and friendly professors who were genuine in the program. To the diversity with classmates. There is an immense amount of memories I walk away with.

I would give no stars if I could. THIS IS THE WORST SCHOOL EVER! I was in the DPT graduate program which is NOT getting accreditation. They make it seem as if they are but I did some checking at this is not the case. They promise several things and under-​deliver after they have all your money and you can’t get it back. My student loans were refunded to me so I called and the school told me I had a zero balance in October when I dropped out at midterm. Then they stuck a collection agency on me for 2X what I owed saying that I never paid and that I owe them money. To make a long story short I had to get a lawyer and won. This school is such a scam. I would advise no one to enroll in this program. Teachers leave the room and say ask your classmates or watch you tube videos instead of showing you what to do in clinic. It’s absolutely in sane. This school is overpriced and you DO NOT get the education they promised. I’m currently working with my lawyer to make sure this school NEVER gets accredited. Chances are not looking good for them anyway since they promised students they would be checking in with us and students still have YET to see the accreditation team. NEVER EVER ATTEND THE DPT (PHYSICAL THERAPY) GRADUATE PROGRAM AT THIS SCHOOL. Graduation rate is extremely low and students are dropping out left and right or just dismissing them.

I loved all my professors for the exception of one. Dr. Susan Hall in the education dept. She was very rude and unprofessional. On my first writing assignment she ripped apart my paper & told me that I write on a 6^th grade level. What supposedly role model of future educators thinks its ok to belittle students in such a fashion. Anyways thank goodness for other kind professors such as Dr. Moore to name a few who understand & practice compassion!!! I can’t believe I ever let Dr. Hall ever embarrass me. I fortunately was a successfull kindergarten teacher for many years despite of it all!!! Thanks Incarnate Word & the other great teachers that lead to my success!!!

After what happened to Cameron Redus and the school not only in denial but then SLANDERING THE VICTIM– who would want to call themselves an alumni of this tainted school who as money as their god?

University of the Incarnate is a big «just shut up» and «do not talk» and «students come and go» culture with many professors who have not yet satisfied their thirst for recognition leave alone praise others for good work. Not all of them, though. It is a small school with a big population.
Job prospects after graduation is not any better and in my case and in many students’ cases worse than many area colleges. I hold an MBA and despite the hope and the promises given during the education, I am suffering greatly. I know people living in the neighborhood and they are not able to find that job. Job problem is not only because of the school’s poor management, and its staff at the Career Services who won’t just show effort to get you an interview at a company that you want to work. Also, San Antonio area competition is different. Despite the increase in the number of college graduates in the recent years, like UIW population went from 2000 to 9000, there is a big high school and lower level competition for professional positions which require at least a Bachelors. So, if you pick to waste your money at UIW, pick something that will help you land a job: nursing, pharmacy or similar. Specialized, certification must fields…
One of the things at UIW is that people do not easily say hi. I lived on campus for two years. I made my own survey, too. I first said hi to some students, and, after their looks in kinda surprise, I asked them, if the others are saying hi to them. The answer from these loners were «no.» It is a big school. If you are different and if you are thinking differently do not go there. If you want acceptance without being rich or having a rich daddy, do not go there. Do your research well, find out first if this school is a right fit for you.
The tuition: when I started this school the tuition was 600 dollars per credit. Now, I hear it is about 800 dollars per credit. On top of that they asked the students to pay 45 dollars per semester for the so called student legacy fund which is basically planned to cover some holes in the budget. Now, make a comparison, go to the Harvard University Online programs; you can get a degree from Harvard maybe even cheaper if your aim is to study and graduate and you can avoid some rude staff of UIW. Do your homework before making a decision. After the first semester it will be too late, you will have too many credits to transfer and you are stuck.
Think very well why you are going to school. D you have a scholarship? How are you gonna finance it? How are you gonna pay back those loans?
Finally, after graduation, it may be fun, to go to the tailgates parties and hang out with the alumni, if you can afford it of course. It gets expensive after a while.
Ask yourself, where you really wanna be. There are only three Tier 1 universities in Texas and nine Tier 1 universities in California. Do yourself a favor. Look at the real employment rates after graduation. UIW will not be able to answer the question. At least truthfully.

A fantastic school wth multiple learning styles ranging from brick and mortar to solely online. This historic institution needs to be on the top of your research list for potential schools. For veterans their Yellow Rbbon Program is top notch. Go Cardinals!

I am going to take up on his point about cheesy branding and tacky promotional campaigns. To me UIW has presented itself as a dolled-​up floozy who aches to be loved by as many people as possible. Aching to be looked at favorably as legitimate and classy. The keener reality is that she is far too eager to take your money for the joy ride that is supposed to be a quality college education.
Many years ago, UIW was Incarnate Word College, a sleepy little institution where girls from rich Latin American families did their «college thing» in a safe environment. Then along came Louis Agnese, under whose micro-​managing style the college grew and grew and grew and officially became a University.
In the process of promoting the school (to increase its viability as a business that sells education), Agnese starting selling naming rights to all kinds of things. It seems that most all new buildings have the name of a major contributor in big letters on the most visible side. (Apparently Mister Ancira kicked in a few greenbacks since his surname can be easily seen from the exit ramp where 281 meets Hildebrand.)
I want to point out that I would never accuse Lou of being evil or stupid. He’s a pretty savvy guy. He just doesn’t make good choices when it comes to presenting the University as a really classy place with a serious commitment to high quality. It could be and should be much better. That is what hopeful students deserve.

We just popped in around Christmas to see the lights. There was a ton of traffic, but we got some cute video and pictures. I will try to post those later. I have no opinion on the school itself, but I do enjoy looking at the architecture.

As much as I complain about school (and it’s a lot!), I am very glad I chose UIW.
I’m from a small town so I am use to everything be close and simple. Even though my high school was pretty big, i went to school with those people my whole life so I knew them.
When it came time to start looking for a university to apply to, I was definitely looking for a smaller one. I actually didn’t even know UIW was here until my mom mentioned it to me. When I toured the campus I was drawn to the smaller campus and small class sizes. I felt comfortable there so that’s the school I chose.
The one thing that is just plain awful is parking. If you’re a commuter like I am, be prepared to get there early or be prepared to walk! If you get there before 8am, you’ll most likely get good parking with only a little walking. After that you will most likely park in the garage. There are shuttle buses but they do get very packed. But hey, at least if you walk, you’ll get some exercise in!
Other than the parking issue, so far, I have enjoyed my time at UIW. I just cant wait to graduate now!

I received my BA in Psychology from UIW in 2008, and my sister is now going herself this coming fall. So far my experiences with UIW have been mostly positive– the small class sizes and indivudualized attention from instructors was just what I needed. As an added bonus, I was able to graduate in just 3 years by taking large course loads and utilizing summer course offerings– I have heard many horror stories of larger schools where scheduling is not conducive to this, or that graduation requirements change frequently causing problems.
While I will admit that the cost was high compared to other schools, it is widely known that most students receive financial assistance in the form of grants or scholarships– I qualified for the presidential scholarship, which covered a portion of each semester and my sister now recieved the same one. The only interesting downside is that the amount has stayed the same over the past four years and has not adjusted with the rising cost of tuition. However, it’s essentially free money, so I wouldn’t be nit picking too much. Between the presidential scholarship and a VA grant for my father’s military service, the cost of attending UIW was more affordable than it otherwise would have been without, but it was still a substantial cost. That’s a call you’ll have to make on your own as a student as to whether or not it’s worth it for you personally.
As a UIW student, I lived on campus for 2 of my 3 years and moved around from Colbert Hall, the ICC2, Avoca apartments, and Dubuis. I don’t recall having any major issues with the living amenities or with Res Life, but did have issues with some of my roommates– then again, when you live with 9 people over 9 semesters, I guess that’s to be expected. I find it interesting that the people I had issues living with were the same people who could not seem to get their act together and finish their classes/​degrees…
I found the cafeteria and other dining options on campus to be adequate for my needs as a full time on-​campus student. I spent way too many late nights at Hortencia’s ordering ChikFilA that contributed to my Freshman 15, and the all you can eat deals at the main cafeteria surely contributed as well– for guys, particularly athletes, I can see the benefits to such a meal plan, but for me it was mostly a cautionary tale about what NOT to do. In any case, the school was rolling out healthier and improved options for the cafes and cafeteria– the sushi options, in particular, were what I spent a significant amount of my remaining account balance on as the end of the semester approached.
My coursework at UIW varied from very demanding courses to those with which I could earn my usual A with minimal effort– it was at times disconcerting to see what other students were submitting as finished papers. Working in education now as an adult, I see that there’s more to that specific situation than can be resolved in a single class, but I will agree with other comments and say that the standards for accepting incoming transfer or freshman students needs to be significantly higher– this goal of being the largest private school in Texas is clearly not focusing on high quality students. With an acceptance rate in the 90% range, it seems to be more about accepting whoever will pay to go here. That being said, this is not a problem specific to UIW but a growing issue in education across the country.
Another point I’d like to touch on is post-​graduate plans: I’m not sure whether it was due to my speeding through college in 3 years or not, but I did not get the necessary «research experience» that graduate schools emphasize in order to be admitted into a Masters program in psychology. It did not seem that research experience was emphasized by (m)any of my professors, and the limited opportunities available were mentioned in passing without any follow up. I regret not making my intentions to further my studies at the graduate level more clear ot my advisor so as to perhaps receive more support in that regard.
Now that I’m way off topic for evaluating the school, a few main bullet points to revisit: small classes and close relationships with instructors were key to my success at the undergraduate level. The cost is considerable, but I was able to identify my needs as a learner and realize that I’d pay more in 3 years focusing and finishing at UIW than perhaps more time at another school where I didn’t get the attention I needed or didn’t feel a sense of accontability when attending class.

Getting your Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) is not a decision one takes lightly. Choosing the right school is a paramount decision that takes time and serious deliberation. With that being said I can say that it was the right decision to choose the University of the Incarnate Word for graduate school.
I recently started to attend the University of the Incarnate Word this spring semester in January. So far I have nothing but great things to say about this school. The professors and faculty are caring individuals that want to see you succeed and help you with whatever problem you may have. The business office is also top notch with answering your questions in a timely manner and not keeping you waiting too long. The campus is small but with nice red brick buildings that is situated well off of Broadway street. Last but not least they have a Chik-​Fil-​A on campus! Mmm I think I’ll head over there right now.
Making the decision to continue your education can be a tough decision to make. Looking into doing that the University of the Incarnate Word is something you should definitely do.

I’m glad I went to school here several years ago. Expensive but I’m thankful for the education. It looks even better now though.
