Today is the official dedication of the campus’ newest building — the Academic Learning & Teaching Center. Comprised of state of the art classrooms (ranging from less than 20 capacity to over 250) as well as a dining facility, it is really something for the Health Science Center community to be proud of. One could take a guided or self-guided tour across the floors. I didn’t get there in time for anything guided but enjoyed wandering the floors on my own, exploring. It really is a beautiful building.

The campus is larger than I imagined to be. It is not as big as The Medical Center in Houston but it is big enough that you can’t walk around the campus in the hot Texas sun. There are several hospitals, health services institutions, and health based colleges on campus. The whole campus is surrounded by condos, apartments, stores, and eateries of all types. The surrounding neighborhood is ok in term of safety. I feel safe walking in daylight, but night time may be scratchy outside the immediately area of the campus.

I recently took a class here & it’s a nice, small circumscribed campus. They have a lot of interesting work going on here. If you’re a regular student, apparently parking is somewhat of a nightmare. Some of the professors & scientists are nicer than others, there are quite a few big names here for perinatal research. I enjoyed taking the course here and there are a lot of food options surrounding the area. It’s not somewhere I would walk in the dark by myself though, there was a mugging when I was there. I would go back for another course, but not somewhere I would like to go long term. Overall nice school with innovative interesting programs.
