Michael Joesph Franks, of Franks landscaping is now working out in Minnesota. He has already scammed two other home owners in the area. He answered an ad for landscaping that we posted on Craigslist. He came in saw the few jobs left on our property and said that he would make our home perfect, But instead of completing those jobs, Mr Franks found every other job to do but those. We had some hardscape /​pavers to complete. We also needed our front lawn regraded and sod put in. We paid him to $ 4,600 in the end for materials and labor. He said everything would be done within a week or two and you would have a team of a few guys there to get it done. After 2 weeks of him working with his coworker part-​time, he had demoed my backyard, destroyed my vegetable garden, ripped out my planting beds, and took out my side retaining wall (he did finish that). No actual work had been done to complete the original job as requested. Finally his coworker texted me saying that he had not paid him in two weeks. I called the sod company, and they said they had no order for sod ever placed. We also gave him money up front for mulch, class 5, dirt, and other minor things. Mr Franks unfortunately never brought any of this supplies to the site.
This is when the threats started, he said he would walk off the job if not paid even more money. If confronted about supplies he would deflect any logical question as a direct affront to his ability.
Sadly Mr Franks has a drug problem, his habit requires at least 150 a day. He is delusional and will bully you, do not give him money for work not completed. He cannot focus, and has limited skill as a landscaper. He cheats other people to work for him, then stiffs them, then he cheats homeowners and never completes any bids requested. After I confronted him about these issues directly, he told me he is severely depressed and this is the only way he could cope. He said he would be back the next day to fix everything that was wrong, but of course I never heard from him again, but he has sent my wife some threatening texts. After speaking to a disgruntled coworker, He has a plan to go from state to state and do as many jobs as possible before people catch on, then move on.
In the end I ended up doing a large share of the work myself. This included cutting block for my new retaining wall, installing the sod myself, replanting and mulching, buying and staging all the supplies for the job. I have become a pro landscaper in the process… LOL
Please call them the police if threatened, he does carry a knife with him at all times.
