Great service. I love Hawaii. Can’t wait to return. The food was on point. Aloha. Better then L&L.

Have you ever had an Hawaiian plate lunch? Wanna have another without having to go to Hawaii? An authentic one? Aloha Kitchen has the best Hawaiian food east of Hawaii! Their Huli Huli chicken is da bomb and so are their short ribs. Get their corn for a side and finish the meal with their pineapple cake. All prepared and made in house. Plus their staff is amazing! So nice and helpful. :)

Two words: SPAMMUSUBI You haven’t experienced casual Hawaiian dining until you’ve had spam musubi. It’s rice-y, its spam-y, it’s teriyaki-ey, and it seaweed-ey. It’s so darn delicious! Aloha kitchen has great potential, for a Hawaiian spot outside of the Hawaii or anywhere coastal. I get it, they try to make do with what they have. I must say, they REALLY try. I have had their spam musubi(of course), LA kalbi, and seared tuna salad. They all hit the spot, if you’re craving for something substantial and don’t want to fuss about going to a schmancy restaurant where you have to pay an arm and a leg. Definitely a solid lunch spot. I will say that the quality of tuna is not the best of the best, but considering the price, it’s better than most tuna you will eat in a restaurant of the same caliber. 3 stars for the food! The 4th star is for the service and ambience. Although they can be slammed during the lunch rush, the servers are wonderful… you know, that hospitality you’ve come to expect when you walk into a Hawaiian-run spot. They absolutely treat you like ohana! I can’t wait to come back to try the tuna and salmon poke!

I really can’t comment on the food. I went here on a Saturday around 6 and they were closed. The place at this address is now called Aloha Kitchen.

This was my first time here. I chose it because it was close to Ft. Sam and I wanted to try something different for lunch. The staff was very nice and the food was very good. I especially liked the coconut cream corn. I would like to come back and try the desserts. I would recommend this place to others.

Great service and friendly staff! We were welcomed immediately upon entering the establishment. First off, I have been to Hawaii before, so I have some experience with Hawaiian foods. The menu is simple, but has all the typical Hawaiian foods. We ordered the Kalua pork and cabbage and the Huli chicken. Sides of macaroni were included along with a scoop of rice. Furikake(sesame and seaweed sprinkles) was also available. We opted for coconut cream corn instead of the squash and other sides available that seem to change daily. I really liked the Huli chicken because it had a sweet teriyaki flavor. The Kalua pork was tasty, but too salty for me. It also didn’t have a strong smoked flavor. I think I prefer a roasted or oven baked style. The creamed corn was good because it had a coconut flavor. Sweet and fresh tasting. We completed our meal with mango pie, which tasted very good! If you like mangos, this pie would be your highlight. It reminded me of a pumpkin pie with mango flavors. I would definitely like to come back to try the other dishes, the reason I chose the rating is because the food didn’t quite my palate. The service was very good though so it earns its stars!

Food is excellent(so much better than L & L) except now they’ve added more accessories to sell and a rack of hawaiian shirts and dresses. Not sure how I feel about eating next to cloths for sale.

My favorite place to go while here in San Antonio! I love how the owners are local too. It definitely gives a great Aloha feel to this city. I absolutely love the little orchid that comes along with the plate too! The food are in good portions, the price suits it, and depending what time you go they’re usually not too busy. I know a lot of soldiers come here since its right down the road from the main gate to Fort Sam Houston. Best thing to get: kalua pork and adobo combo with mac salad and rice! Mahalo Aloha Grill for being a long standing supply of Aloha to San Antonio :)

DONOTEATATALOHAKITCHEN! This place is DEFINITELYNOTWORTHTHEPRICE! Over priced below average food and HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICE! Their unprofessional staff was disrespectful and I will never go there again! I’m from Hawaii and this place does not have the aloha spirit that you would expect them to have. From one local to another, don’t support disrespectful people that make Hawaii look bad.

Really good authentic Hawaiian food. Hours are only limited from m-sat 11 – 2 but they do cater and will open if you want them too. Also hard core Hawaiian food like poi.. lomi salmon and lau lau needs to be ordered in advanced. Friendly service with a little wait but this is NOT fast food. Aloha.

In San Antonio for a trip and was lucky to find this gem. Skip the river walk and go to have one of the best meals you’ll find in Texas! Absolutely amazing food, cute accessories for sale and some of the best service you can ask for. I had the huli hulk chicken and draggin meat with cabbage kimchee and mac salad. Food is incredibly fresh, high quality and arrived with a beautiful flower on top. The staff is very welcoming and covers every detail. While I was in the owner was personally greeting each table and taking the time to get to know all the guests. Such concern makes the dining experience a great pleasure. Wish I could move this restaurant back home with me!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for over a year now, but they are never open by the time I make it to this part of town on a weekday. My husband LOVES spam and really wanted to try the Spam Musubi and he absolutely loves it. I’m not a fan of spam and wouldn’t try it. He actually liked it better than the ones that he tried in Hawaii. I, for an appetizer, ordered the seared ahi tuna and it was not what I had expected. I wouldn’t order it again. However, the main menu… so delicious! My hubby ordered the Loco Moco(sorry about the auto correct on the pic) and it was really good, but super filling. I ordered the combo of Huli Huli Chicken and Draggin’ meat. Sooo good. I was actually really impressed. For the sides, I had the coconut creamed corn(reminds me of a Vietnamese dessert that I love) and kim chi cabbage(lighter than the traditional Korean kim chi). I really liked them both. My hubby had the potato/macaroni salad and didn’t care for it, but he said the cucumber salad was Awesome!!! We finished with the guava pie(I was really hoping that they would have the mango one, but they didn’t) and it was pretty good. The consistency was like a thicker jello pie. Strange consistency but it was tasty. The two ladies that were there(I think they were the owners) were super sweet and provided great service! I will definitely come back!

Unbelievably okole-hau in opening and closing times! Came on Saturday at 2:39pm and we were told that they were closed! Say what?! Then the lady said that they weren’t open again until 5pm! Say what?! The door was unlocked and people were sitting at a table eating! PAYATTENTION to hours of operation cuz they are abnormal for a small plate lunch style restaurant. What?! Not like it’s some fancy-pants joint that has to prepare ahead of time! Geez! I looked at the plates the people were eating and it looked so small with tiny portions of food! One scoop rice! In Hawaii, that is called the mini-plate. All NORMAL plates come with two scoops rice! Plus, here is the best, the scooper looked like it came from a toy cooking set. Wear your nerd thick glasses cuz the mac-salad scoop is hard to find in your plate! Try look at the picture below, you will see exactly what I mean! Ok, you expect tiny portions in a classy place, but this is a small looking hole in the wall restaurant! Braddah and sistahs, believe me, not worth the long drive and road constructions delays for this place, for sure! Try, Hawaiian-wann-bee but no-can-bee!

In my constant reviews on Unilocal about the overabundance of Tex-Mex eateries here in San Antonio, I found a refreshing change of pace. I forgot that I had a gift cert to the Aloha Grill. Well, wife and I checked it out. What a REFRESHING change! This was our first time to the Aloha Grill on Harry Wurzbach. I never got our server’s name, but she is the owner’s wife, and I will assume by default that the owner is the chief cook and hubby. We went on a Wednesday night. Quiet, and we were treated like royalty. The Pupu platter for our appetizer. I had never had Spam as a sushi item… until tonight. The Pupu came with two of those(of which the wife ate only the rice and gave me the Spam), two spring rolls(crispy and delicate… YUM!), four pot stickers, and two coconut fried shrimp, all served with a tangy, light, delectable ginger sauce. All YUM! I had the ½ pound Angus hamburger steak with two fried eggs, served over rice and topped with brown gravy. Wife had the two choice meal, with Dragon meat(teriyaki beef) and the macadamia encrusted chicken. As always, we shared tastes of our plates. We both had something unique to us: coconut creamed corn(think Texas-style creamed corn, ala Rudy’s BBQ, but with a coconut taste) and the macaroni salad. Absolutely DELICIOUS! Rudy’s: you have some SERIOUS competition with *THIS* creamed corn! The macaroni salad was good, but topped with the seaweed(yes!) topping, it was much better! Dessert: I had a slice of coconut macadamia pie, and the wife enjoyed a slice of coconut chocolate pie. All washed down with a delicious sweet tea which tasted slightly of papaya. The atmosphere, while some have pointed out that it is in a small strip center, was excellent! Quiet, with Hawaiian music in the background(I personally would have loved to hear Don Ho…), but tastefully appointed with decorations that remind one of the Hawaiian islands, with their lush, tropical setting and dreamlike views. I could close my eyes and be on the beach at Waikiki. The owners host a Friday night luau, which I will have to go check out. Located very conveniently near Ft. Sam’s main gate on Harry Wurzbach, it is easily located between a military-related store, a barber shop, and El Bohia, a Caribbbean-style restaurant that, while I remember visiting a long time ago, I need to revisit to fully evaluate for Unilocal. But if you are feeling the Aloha spirit, visit the Aloha Grill. And you’ll leave there wishing you had made the trip to Honolulu! MAHALO!

Good food. I had the loco moco. It was good but didn’t amaze me. It was kind of like Salisbury steak with rice and eggs. I’m going to try something different that I’m not a bit familiar with. My wife’s dish was better to me because I haven’t even heard of it. She had macadamia chicken and it was delicious. It was a chicken breast coated with macadamia nut and panko mix. Even had a delicious sauce to dip in it comprised of soy sauce and macadamia nut oil. I would go back and intend to.

Great find right near base. Had the Huli-Huli chicken and the Pork Adobo combo plate and the Strawberry Guava juice. Chicken 9/10, Pork 7.5÷10(wish it was hotter). Great rice and salad for sides.

I have never had this type of cuisine before so I didn’t know what to expect. A good friend of mine wanted to try it so we went and I’m so glad we did. With us, were her twin boys(7 yrs) and the lady waiting on us was great with them. She was so sweet and our food was AMAZING!

Aloha Kitchen(formerly known as Aloha Grill) is a quaint little restaurant across from Ft. Sam. The staff is friendly and the food is delish. There aren’t a ton of tables, so go a little early to beat the lunch crowd. They are open for lunch during the week and for dinner on Fridays and Saturday. Suggestions below: Chips & Mango Papaya Salsa($ 4.99) — chips are crunchy and have the perfect amount of seasoning; the salsa is sweet with a bit of a kick. Highly enjoyed by everyone at my table of 7 people. Maui Steak Sandwich($ 8.99) — Hawaiian bread with tender slices of sweetly marinated steak, topped with melted swiss cheese and grilled onions. This is legit… legit delicious. Loco Moco($ 9.99) — if you’ve never tried a patty of hamburger meat topped with eggs over easy(my suggestion, but you could do over medium, hard), on top of white rice covered in gravy, then maybe you should. It’s strange, but you won’t be disappointed.

So, only having been to Hawaii(Maui) once, and remembering how I LOVED the plate lunches there, or Kalua pig, marinated grilled chicken and short ribs with rice and mac salad, I was really excited to eat here. I didn’t even know it existed until January! I LOVE the food here! My partner, having spent a great deal of time in Hawaii as a Marine, says the mac salad isn’t quite right, but other than that — great! I’ve tried their chicken, their beef(lunches only) and have NOT been disappointed. I’ve also had the sweet potato fries and the house made cherry sauce they serve with them is right on the money! I try to eat here every time I’m in San Antonio for Military duty, but they aren’t open on Sunday’s and don’t appear to be open for dinner either as I was recently in S.A. working nights and every evening their windows were dark. I hope this is not a bad sign… Will eat there again next chance I get!

Can’t believe it. I actually jumped from 2 stars to 5! So I finally visited the place a couple of times — not to eat but to pick up — and even though it was small and looked like it could still use some work, I think it lends itself to be a fairly decent place to eat at. The food is fantastic as well. I go loco over the loco moco… moco loco… whatever. It’s good. It’s fattening as hell. I still end up with a huge smile on my face. A hamburger patty cooked as requested, laid over a bed of sticky rice, topped with 2 eggs any style, and brown gravy. A side of mac potato salad and an additional side(I like the coconut cream corn). I can never eat it all. Eaten from TAG at least 5 or 6 times and still haven’t been able to finish it so I split it. A co-worker adores their sweet potato fries and we nommed on that for a lunch too. Another co-worker prefers the spam musubi. Still waiting to try the mango pie though. The owner(Auntie Né — pronounced nay) and her aunt, Aunty Liz, and her sister(I’m sorry I forgot her name) definitely take care of you. And look for Auntie Né at the annual Asian Festival every year. She definitely takes pride as being one of the founders of that event. Aloha!
