I walked in after lunch at Sushi Zushi(major yummy) and was greeted by the most friendly and helpful retail staff I’ve probably ever encountered. Maybe that’s because I don’t like over zealous service(please, don’t try to bond with me over the weather, or the Royal wedding) but they were the perfect balance between friendly and professional. The person helping me had me walk up and down the store so that she could see the problems with my step and recommend a shoe that fits perfectly, is comfortable, cute, AND is good for weak ankles! I walked away with a new pair of shoes and a smile.

I may get some backlash for this, but I feel that the minority needs to be heard. Don’t hate me for my honest opinion. After a few reccomendations, I was told that Run Gear Run was THEPLACE to go for finding a running group. But… I was a little disappointed. I don’t mean to be snobbish but as an experienced marathoner trying to break 3:30, I need competition in my training, I need a challenge. The training group that I joined was geared toward beginners/fun runners or busy professionals that want to be healthy and fit but have other priorities. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that — I’ve been there. But I am desperate to find a running group for experienced and competitive runners. I was even a little embarrassed to be running too fast with the other participants. I thought maybe there were other training groups that I might be able to run with that were of my same mindset. When I asked, I was told that you have to pay over $ 100 to join these groups. I guess that is a fair price if you are following their training program and utilizing all of their resources. But I think it is a bit steep for just a running buddy. So if you are looking for a beginner/intermediate running group that is not super competitive or just want to run for health and fun with like-minded people, Run Gear Run has the perfect group. The coach was great at motivating the group and seemed quite knowledgeable and useful for his runners. But if you are shooting for a PR or BQ without spending lots of cash for experience that you think you already have or just want a training buddy to push you and challenge you, PM me so we can help each other out. P. S. I didn’t really shop at the store since I only showed up for the running group and the store was just closing. I kind of looked around and it seemed like a pretty standard running store. I also thought it was cool how they had a selection of triathlon gear and every energy gel you can imagine. I glanced at the shoe section and didn’t see my favorite running shoe but I am hoping that they had more in the back. So take my 2 stars for just my running group experience. Maybe I will give more later if I have a great shopping experience another day or if I go back and have a better run.

Great training programs! Run Gear Run is a very well-rounded running store. You can buy all your gear at decent prices(especially during sales) from shoes to shirts to fuel belts. The sales staff is very attentive and very detail-oriented. When you’re looking for shoes especially, they will go above and beyond in finding the right fit for you and your stride. It’s so great to get this extra attention. What I love most about Run Gear Run is their training programs. They are especially geared towards beginners. You can train with them for marathons, half-marathons, cycling and tri events. The programs for marathons are what I’m experienced with. As an avid marathon runner, I’ve used programs from many different sources and I just really think Run Gear Run does a great job making a well-rounded marathon training program. You get of course group long runs on the weekend(at 5am which is always fun!) but also speed and hill training days. I’m of the experience that many training programs don’t offer the two extra days. And the best part? All of this training expertise and coaching and extra speed and hills and it only cost $ 150 for a 20-week program. ABSOLUTELYUNBEATABLE! So, if you’re interested in running your first marathon, I’d recommend a trip to Run Gear Run to get shoes and running clothes and also a fantastic, attentive and full training program!

I saw a car this morning that had 13.1 Run Gear Run. I set out to find my store. Located off of the busy highway of 1604 and Stone Oak Parkway, Run Gear Run is a fascinating store full of knowledge about running. Immediately I found the sticker I was looking for and a very charming lady asked if I was in training. I got into a long conversation with her about my hip giving out this past weekend when I ran. She gave me some ideas and I bought some energy packs for the next long run. The feet painted all over the store and the simple design of their outlay is really quite classy. They had loads of pamphlets and local run information. I was very impressed by this store because I am a runner. The real critic, my son, was intrigued by the stance position measure that they have for pronating feet.

This store is fantastic. I am a certified couch potato. I have a certificate for it next to my t.v. So what can I say to store full of people who turned that around and have started me on the path to better fitness? Granted, I never thought I’d spend a wad of cash on running shoes that are less than stylish, but thanks to the smart folks at Run Gear Run, I feel like I’m running on clouds. Plus, I never thought I’d have cause to wear a fanny back this side of adolescence, but they’ve found me a fabulous one to wear that holds my phone, water and keys. Also, RGR holds training groups year round. Currently, USAFIT is in full swing, training couch potatoes and pros alike for the Rock and Roll Marathon this November. The store has a training website for people who join, but also have information available to everyone at their store. Everyone I’ve ever spoken to is extremely friendly and patient. Yay, me, for now signing up to run a half-marathon. All for the sake of better abs and a firmer butt.
