Best cheesesteak in SA? I guess I haven’t tried them all, but that’s only because I stopped when I got here and never saw need to try another. Everything melds together on this to make it better than the sum of its parts… no canned cheezwhiz, real Provolone, peppers and onions, gotta get it with everything. Oh, and order the large. They give you two smalls, and you’ve got a spare that way. Share with a friend. Or don’t, you paid for it. I don’t really order anything else there — got the fries once, and they weren’t great, tasted frozen. So I guess I have to take a star off for that. And don’t go there for a romantic evening with candles and ambience. Pick it up and go, so be prepared to dine in less than lush surroundings. I get it to go and drink a beer at home.

Simple short menu. Only about 15 items. Good flavor, fast, feels like a little taste of Chicago inside and friendly service. I had the chili cheese dog & chili cheese fries. Good serving size and good chili quality. Want a quick inexpensive lunch? Stop in & you’ll be out in 10 – 15 mins!

Delicious food and I heard the beef is imported from Chicago, regardless the owners are and they know what they’re doing when it comes to a true hot and juicy sandwich. The hotdogs are also really good. One of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio! Delicious and different from anything else in the city

Delicious Philly cheese steak with hot peppers. The meat is tender and the onions are sweet and sauteed perfectly. The cheese fries are just fries with some sort of generic cheese melted on top; I was hoping for some of that sweet melty cheese action you might find on a sandwich, but everything was still delicious. I went at noon, and there was just a short wait for a takeout order while they cooked everything to order. This is a lunch gem, especially if you want something hearty and inexpensive. Great value, great flavor.

Always hard to find an authentic Chicago dog in these parts, but this place delivers!

Their dogs are ok. Good but not great. Good for a quick, and cheap lunch. Service is good.

The best dog in SA… they would do well to upgrade/freshen up the dining area. Good people & great Vienna Beef dogs– the BEST!

Please, Please, Please wash your damn hands and put on some gloves. The absolute arrogance ! Touching register, touching fridge door. light switch and then straight grabbed fries out of bag with bare nasty ass hands. Come on man! You just lost a customer! I’m out!

Not surprising, another hole in the wall is a winner! Had the cheesesteak with mushrooms. A better sandwich than most of the big names around. Solid thumbs up!

This review is more like 3.5 star Very smoky from the kitchen, will stink up your dress shirt, so be prepared if you have an afternoon meeting We ordered Chicken and Steak sandwich, they are really good. I’m not a big fan of the cheese fries though, although the fries by itself is pretty good. Overall, good place to grab lunch.

If you are basing your experience merely on ambiance or atmosphere, this is not the place for you. Yep, it’s a hole in the wall… older building, outdated Chicago décor and ugly plants. The soda machine is still broken so you get a can of room temperature«pop» and ice instead. They DO take credit cards now, so that’s a perk. The food: AMAZING! Great Chicago dogs and superb fries! If you’re looking for a quick bite and want a great meal and don’t care about the surroundings, you won’t be disappointed! Yummy!

This place is great! The Philly Cheesesteak is the best I’ve had in San Antonio. The sweet peppers are tasty. Food is made to order and the owner is super friendly.

I work near by and I love this place. Its a family run business and they keep it old school style. The Italian beef is perfect on a cold day. The peppers they include are the best pickled peppers I have ever had. They are spicy, flavorful, and bring the heat. The owners are friendly and nice. They are the kind of people you want to bring business to. Check this place out its worth it.

I can’t really compete with a native Chicagoan… Chicagoese. er, Chicagonian… I can’t really compete with someone from Chicago regarding the authenticity of the roast beef and dogs. I was pretty excited to give it a shot, though. Maybe I came on an off day? But all the food was reheated, and not fresh. My fries were already cooked and just dropped back in the fryer for a few minutes. The cheesesteak was made fresh, but the roast beef was taken out of a bin. I didn’t see any fresh food being made. I also had a Chicago dog, and it was pretty much the same thing — previously made and just warmed up. I felt a little cheated — kind of like when you find out those really weren’t Julia Roberts’ legs in the opening scene of Pretty Woman. The food was okay. The décor, as stated, is lacking. One might call it a dive, another critic may say its Spartan. I actually think it looks dirty — which then makes me wonder about what’s behind the counter and in the kitchen. And someone mentioned that the kitchen gets overwhelmed easily, which I witnessed. A big family was forced to wait for nearly 15 minutes for their food. Actually, I waited 15 minutes for mine, and that family still hadn’t received their food when I left. If I were a Chicagoese or whatever, I suppose I’d come back to get my fill, but, for now I’ll defer until the Cubs win the World Series.

Was in the mood for a beer and decided to search for a good place on Unilocal that was near me. Decided to go to this place after reading some of the reviews. It’s in shopping strip. And when you enter, well, it looks like a taqueria converted into a sub shop? But don’t let that deter you. I have the beef and chili fries, my son had the chili dog, my buddy had a beef as well. Beef was scrumptious. Nice, big, fat, wet bread, filled with taste beef and the peppers. YES!!! First bite was all I was craving. My son said his dog was«DELICIOUS and tasty.» The chili fries were good too, smothered with cheese and chili.

Like others have written, this is the place to go for hot dogs and for cheese steaks. It is small and it is family run, so don’t expect your food super fast. Also, I wouldn’t recommend taking a large group(over 4 people) here as the kitchen gets overwhelmed very quickly. Still, the food is awesome and the staff is friendly. Their fire dog is the best in the city hands down and their prices are great. Good for meat lovers and those that seriously crave meat. A great local place that every local should try at least once.

I lived in the Chicago area for awhile. I grew to love Italian beef, Italian sausage and a real Chicago style deep dish pizza. Well this place gives me 2 out of 3 so that is not bad at all. I love the Italian beef with sweet pepper and of course it has to be wet. And the Italian beef is equally as delicious. The Chicago dogs are fantastic complete with the florescent green relish. Absolutely is a big plus that Vienna Beef dogs are used. Nice friendly little place. Worth a try.

I like R&B’s because these guys stay open longer than Jerry’s downtown, which closes anywhere between 3:30pm-4:30pm depending on how business is. Whenever I get a craving for Chicago style hot dogs, Polish sausages, Italian beefs, etc. and find out Jerry’s is closed, I make this my Plan B. And for good reason too. The hot dogs, fries and Maxwell Polishes are good. Italian beefs, Italian sausages and combos are really juicy but don’t have as many hot peppers as Jerry’s and are tough to pick up due to the juice dripping from the bread. So if you try picking it up it would probably fall apart. If worse comes to worse, then you can always eat with a fork. Their Italian beefs are not dry like the ones at Donnie’s on 410/Summit. The pizza puffs are also worth getting too whenever you’re craving something extra.
