Great food!!! Great service from the waitress! I love their salsa and onion! My son also loved the burgers.

Another must delicious destination. The chicken and beef fajitas was awesome. A constant indication that the food is good is when the place is busy. eat where the locals go to score the lower prices.

I’ve been wanting to try this for some time, so I drove from my office on the Northside to the south side looking for the trailer but it was not there so I decided to drive to restaurant to try.. I don’t regret driving all around town. I ordered to go, I waited for about 15 min for my order, people were being seated as they walked in. I did see a large table group wait about 15 min. I ordered the whole chicken $ 12.99 comes with side rice, green salsa, tortillas. I order the charro beans also. The chicken is great, the green salsa is amazing, beans & rice were average. I’ll be back..

I stopped here to order to go because I saw very good reviews on Unilocal.I regret to had ordered the fajitas instead of the chicken even though the fajitas were really good. The chicken looked fantastic and smelled wonderful. I wish they offered smaller orders or tacos but its a great place. Especially to go with a group to share. Will definitely go back and try the chicken. The rice was flavorless though. Only give corn tortillas.

Where do I begin? Everything from the chicken, salchicha to the beef fajitas are AMAZING! The green sauce takes it to the next level of Amazing. It’s just that good. Every opportunity we get, we go. Despite the long wait(line is literally out the door), it’s all worth the wait.

Best chicken in town. Rice and beans are to die for. Need to try fajitas next time. But, in last to go orders things haven’t gone right. First to go order. Rice was burned. Second, time to go order. No beans included and we live an hour away so not that easy to go back for beans. Again, food is great to eat IN.

This is not the first time I’ve posted on this place. As far as I’m concerned this is the best pollo in all of San Antonio. I was really freaked out when the place almost got shut down by the City because of all the smoke, but it got worked out. Disaster averted. I’m ok now. The sauce is to die for. It’s like liquid crack!!! I pour it on everything! the chicken, the rice, the beans, everything! I hate to tell people about this place because it’s always so crowed now but I can’t help it. Frank, the owner should pay me commission for sending so many people over there. This place goes through more than 600 chickens a day! Unbelievable.

Exceptional Service and food. We ordered the whole chicken and an order of beans. The mesquite they use to cook the chicken makes it so good. The green sauce is excellent as well. We will definitely be back!

WOW, Unilocal really got this place right. My boyfriend and I stopped here on our cross country trip this past October and HOLYSH*T the chicken was SOOOOOOGOOOOOOD, better than you can even comprehend from these reviews. You have to go here! Experience the crowd, the red and white table clothes, the endless smoke and the hugest Mexican cokes we have ever seen! Chicken, beans, tortillas — oh my! I give Pollos Asados a 100% satisfactory review even after sampling many places across our journey from the east to the west this was one of the best memories we have from the whole trip. GOHEREORELSEREGRETITFOREVER!

Sweet mother of pearl, this place was amazing! The food was so good we ate every last bit of food that was brought to the table. I wish I lived near here I would go all the time. If you are not sure if you want to go take this into account. I don’t really like Mexican food very much. I was just going because my wife and best friend love it. If all Mexican food tasted like this I would eat it everyday.

I’d heard of this place from a few people. Where is it I’d ask? Just follow the smoke. They weren’t kidding. A large rise of smoke from the pit could be seen from at least a couple of football fields away to help me to find this place on Rigsby. My friend and I agreed to meet here for lunch today. They open at 11am and I arrived to standing room only before 11:30am(a good sign of a great restaurant). While sitting in their waiting area, the lady next to me said to try the bbq chicken. I heard people talking about the beef fajitas. Oh what to do, what to do? I had the beef fajitas with the sides of spanish rice, pinto beans, lettuce with pico de gallo and guacamole. Oh man, so good!!! A gentleman(maybe the owner) stopped by our table a couple of times to check on how we were enjoying our experience. Loved that personal touch! Our server kept our glasses filled and our dining experience was super! I’ll be back to try the BBQ chicken soon. Who eats here? Corporate types, blue collar workers, couples and good friends catching up on what’s been going on. Follow the smoke signals to a wonderful eating experience!

We went to this place as it had great reviews and we were not disappointed. Truly the best chicken we ever tasted. We also ordered the Borchetta and the steak was ok but we will drive to san Antonio for this chicken. The restaurant is no frills and run very efficiently. Our server was very helpful. Don’t go if you are looking for fancy ambiance or real silverware and dishes. They also don’t serve alcohol. We only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table on a Saturday evening. All the sides were excellent and we fed our family of 4 for about $ 30. Incredible! :-) On the way our we were also able to see the smoking/grilling room outside and that was an experience in itself. Overall five stars all around.

Pollos Asados offers a very enjoyable dining experience if you go in with the right expectation. The menu is not huge here — if you’re just not into marinated grilled chicken, there are very few alternatives to choose from. Don’t expect to have a beer or margarita with your meal(not sure if you can BYOB — we didn’t think of it in advance). What Pollos Asados lacks in variety and booze, it makes up for in authenticity and value. The chicken, grilled right outside the entrance to the restaurant in a sort of tent, is juicy and flavorful, with just the right amount of char. The service is cheerful and bilingual. And the prices are extremely reasonable. Go where the locals go and give it a try.

This place does not have a lot of options, but the ones it does, will leave you licking your fingers! We had their whole chicken, Carne Asada, beans, rice and guacamole. Everything was fabulous and the chicken was out of this world! The chicken was char-grilled perfectly to impart a smoky flavor and was seasoned to perfection. It wasn’t overdone and was juicy and tender. They also had a ‘green’ sauce that would taste good on even cardboard! If you ever find yourself in San Antonio, I highly encourage you to stop by this place. Expect to wait in a bit of a line during peak hours!

Never heard of Mexican Chicken before and I’ve sure been missing out. Our party of 6pm arrived on a saturday evening around 5:30pm and got seated pretty quickly. We immediately order 2 whole chicken platters(around $ 13 each). Platters came with beans, rice, tortillas, onions, and a jalapeño pepper. The chicken was so moist, smoky and flavorful. we wrapped it in a tortilla with the various sides with this AMAZING green sauce. makes my mouth water just thinking about it. That green sauce was soooo good.

Food: 4.0÷5.0 Service: 3.0÷5.0 Value: 4.0÷5.0 Décor: 2.5÷5.0 Overall: 3.5÷5.0 I’m a little conflicted here. The food was good… the chicken was nice and juicy, the fajitas were tender, and the sides were fine. The prices are also very reasonable, and portions are quite big. And there are all the trappings that hipster foodies would totally love to rave about… physically, this place kind of reminds me of Franklin’s despite not looking the same at all. As of today, this is TripAdvisor’s #1 restaurant in San Antonio. But I just didn’t leave feeling like I need to be back again. Maybe that speaks more about the competition than the restaurant itself. But 4.0 food and 4 Unilocal stars is all I can give.

I don’t usually do long reviews, but this place is worth one. I don’t go to the east side of town very much, but you will want to make the drive for this place! As soon as you drive up you can see(and smell) the large smoke stacks where they are cooking the chicken. We came here around 2pm on a Saturday and it was still packed! As you enter there is a small waiting area with only about 5 chairs(you’ll most likely just have to stand only) where they ask you to wait here until your table is ready. As your waiting there is a small window into the kitchen where you can see them preparing the food. You’ll start drooling already, trust me! When you get your seat and enter the restaurant you’ll see it’s a bit small(thus the waiting time). They have burgers on the menu, but skip this and go straight to the pollo! Two of us were eating, we ordered a whole chicken, which comes with rice(beans are extra but yummy). You’ll most likely have to wait awhile for the food, since there are so many people, but it’s worth the wait. To accommodate all the business they get, you’ll get a styrofoam plate and plastic utensils. The vibe is a small family owned restaurant you’ll get here, service isn’t 100% but it’s because they are so busy with the large number of people they’re serving. When the food arrived the whole chicken was nicely cut up into about 8 pieces. Now when my husband and I go out to eat we usually chat as we are eating. Well this meal we didn’t say a word, just kept eating and eating! The chicken is so nice and moist(not fatty at all) with a smoky flavor to it and a beautiful crusty skin you’ll want to eat! Ask for their green sauce, a great accompaniment to the chicken and rice. They will charge you 50 cents to take some green sauce home with you(if you make it to left overs at all!) This place has ruined chicken for us(in a good way!) Now every time I eat chicken I will always be reminded of this flavor! If they bottled this chicken flavor up I would bathe in it, brush my teeth in it and use it as perfume!

We were searching for some authentic street tacos when we thought of this place. Not for the street tacos but for what appeared to be really authentic grilled chicken. Let me tell you — it is not any where near where we live. It is actually quite the commute but we were really craving some REAL grilled food. So we said what the heck– lets go! First — it is quite the sight when you drive up the street. Why? Because if you would not know any better, you could swear the place is on fire!!! The amount of smoke bellowing from the place is insane! We knew we were in the right place! And the smell of mesquite wafting through the air is mesmerizing. Once you step inside, you walk into a different world. It looked like the places was busting the seams on Saturday @ 730. It’s a bit overwhelming and not quite clear how you get a table when it is this busy because there is no hostess stand but just find the staff member who is calling out names. They told us the wait was about 10 – 15 minutes but it was more like five. Although the place was hopping they have a really quick turnaround time with tables so even if there is a line outside it moves quickly. Now for the food– it’s all about the chicken. There are burgers and fajita in the menu(and ribs — no longer available) but stick to the chicken. For one thing the only meat that is grilled on charcoal/mesquite is the chicken so if the smell of mesquite brought you in stick with the chicken. As others have mentioned meat order comes with sides and corn tortillas. The sides are fine but it is the chicken that –you cannot stop eating. There is green and red salsas available– wished they were spicier. Next time we may have to bring our own. Remember that it does not serve alcohol. While you wait for your food– enjoy the show on a busy day. The organized chaos. It is sight to behold. It’s the constant movement of staff, patrons, and noise. That glorious sound that comes from people enjoying good food. Hats off the the staff, as crazy as it was we had several staff come up to our table to ask if we needed anything– just to really check on us. After you finish, get your bill, and pay upfront. As you leave think about the glorious chicken and congratulate yourself for making an excellent choice!

We got the Fajitas for one, Asada for one and a cheeseburger for the kiddo. They bring the Fajitas and Asada out on a skillet plate and they are sizzling. There is so much food on those plates that my husband and I could have shared one. They were out of flour tortillas today so we had corn but that doesn’t matter as the food is just awesome! I give this place two thumbs up. We got here at 1:30pm and had about a 15 minute wait. Prices are average. Each plate was ½ pound for 9.59 or you could get a full pound for 17.99. Charro beans are excellent and Spanish rice is not the best I’ve had but is still good.
