The best Italian food in san Antonio! The only place we go when we are wanting Italian.

NASTYNASTYNASTY. This is the worst Italian restaurant my husband and I have ever eaten at here in San Antonio. From the beginning, before we even got a chance to look at the menu, the OWNER came up to our table really rude asking us, «what are you ordering?» Not hi how are or did you get a chance to see what you wanted, just plane rude. After ordering our food, I tasted my chicken fettuccini Alfredo to see if it needed any salt or pepper. I bit into it and immediately tasted the overload of salt. I asked my husband to taste it to see if I was overreacting and he told me «hell no.» I told another waiter, not the rude owner, that it was a little too salty for my liking and I didn’t want anything else. Mind you, at this time we had only taken 2 bites out of the whole plate. As we go to checkout at the front the owner insist on charging us saying that I ate all the chicken in it. I told her I refuse to pay for something that was picked at twice & was so distasteful. Her response was, «ok ok, I won’t charge you but you ate all the chicken.» Never in my life have I ever wanted to make a scene so bad by telling that rude, disrespectful, angry, & bitter old lady off. NASTYNASTYNASTY. Nasty food & owner.

When you are looking for authentic Italian food with the Italian attitude to go, then this is the place! This has been a favorite of mine and my wife’s for several years. The atmosphere is romantic if you plan to take a date. However if you are sensitive to directness, then stay away from the to owner. She is a great woman, but don’t piss her off. Lol. She is a strong overbearing woman who will tell it like it is! But the quality of food and the flavor is what makes up for it. The chicken Parmesan and the Ziti Sorrentino are not to be missed!

Food was DELICIOUS! Was a very simple casual restaurant with simple, classic Italian food. Would highly recommend!

Friday night highlight. We started w mussels in white wine sauce. Lovely! Garlic bread on point and bottomless. Simple but flavorful salad. My hubby got the veal raffaelo and I the veal serrentino. His was to die for, buttery and rich. Mine was full of flavor and great texture. Tiramisu was light and fluffy. Definitely our new go to Italian place.

Went for lunch. Had the chicken Parmesan. Very disappointing. It was basically a hammered out piece of chicken with cheese on top, was not breaded. The garlic bread was not fresh. It was chewy like it was day old. Spaghetti with red sauce was very good, very smooth.

Another great meal at one of our favorite restaurants. The garlic bread is to die for and now she has updated the place. Tonight we started off with the piccolo salad and my wife had the manicotti and I had the butter garlic pasta. The piccolo salad is a must.

Went for a birthday celebration for my hubby last night. Arrived at 5pm when they opened and was immediately seated. Ordered a bottle of wine, and enjoyed the classical Italian opera music that was playing softly as we enjoyed or salad and our shared appetizer of Shrimp Raffaello. The shrimp were as wonderful as they have always been in the past, perfectly seasoned and nice in size. We used the garlic bread to enjoy the remainder of the sauce once our shrimp was enjoyed! ;) I ordered the(off menu) Eggplant Parmesan, which is the family recipe handed down and treated PERFECTLY to this day. OMG, that stuff is ADDECTIVE and I never order eggplant anywhere else because it could not even compare to their dish. HUGE portion, ate until I was full and took a lot home. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and we ordered with the Raffaello sauce vs their tradition marinara sauce to enjoy a little more of the perfectly spiced, lemon, butter garlic sauce. Hubby enjoyed the Veal Raffaello(which has a bonus of 3 more shrimp on top) and said it was PERFECTLY cooked, seasoned and tender. Homely little family owned and run restaurant that keeps the memory of the father(Ralph who passed a few years ago) alive. His son is doing an excellent job in the kitchen keeping his fathers recipes cooked with love and attention. My hubby and I both commented that seldom are things«as good as you remembered them to be» when returning to an old haunt, but last night was the exception to that rule as we both thought it was not only every bit as good, but maybe even better! EXCEPTIONAL Italian food with very reasonable pricing, friendly, cozy, family atmosphere and service. We will be back soon!!!

I’ve been coming to San Antonio for more years than I care to admit. The best Bolognese sauce I’ve ever had? Piccolo’s. It was delicious, it came with ravioli, which were also delicious. The owner was sweet, from Croatia, her Italian husband started the restaurant, and the Bolognese sauce was the real deal. I’ve cooked that sauce many times, and the Bolognese at Piccolo’s was really, really good. $ 7.95! And it came with a small green salad and garlic bread. It was one of the best lunches I’ve had in a while, not fancy, just delicious. I loved the music – Italian opera and Andrea Bocelli. Cheers!

This place is probably the worst Italian restaurant I’ve ever been to. This is the first one star review i have written. Let’s start off with the bellow standard service. When we walked in we were ignored by the host(Owner) she was too busy talking to a regular. We were seated at a corner by a door and a very dirty air vent. The young girl who brought us our bread seemed like she was forced to serve us. The owner acted very strange like we were a bother to her. I had the chicken parmesan the chicken was very dry and not worth the money spent. I will not be back and will not recommend this place. I am amazed that it is still in business.

Most of the staff was extraordinary, the food was very good. However we seemed to have annoyed the waitress(owner) by being there. Not friendly, couldn’t be bothered to answer a question about the menu, and practically ran to another table when she saw a regular coming into the restaurant. She was the only waitress but there were more empty tables than full. Amazingly she seems to have trained a very good staff. Drinks, bread, the food were all served efficiently. This seems like a great place if you are a regular. I’m really puzzled by the service.

Yum yum yum! This is not fancy, this is outstanding italian. Jessica had the homemade ravioli, I had the red snapper meunière. Mom and pop place. Pops recipes and values continue on. Fresh, home made, generous portions. Good italian, this is as good as it gets in San Antonio.

Piccolos just served me the best meal I have had in years. We started with a shrimp appetizer — 3 huge grilled scampi on a garlic cream sauce– which was shared with my dad and cousin. It was unbelievably good. For the main meal I tried something I had never had before — Veal Raffaello, which I quickly googled and found out it was veal in garlic cream sauce… sounds good! When It came out I was delighted to see it decorated with 3 more awesome scampi on top of the veal. Needless to say, I was very pleased. The house Chianti complemented the meal quite well. I am only in San Antonio for 1 more night, and try to savor a variety of styles while traveling, but I am seriously tempted to return to Piccolos tomorrow night. Prego!

*PAYATTENTIONTOTHEWORDOFCAUTIONBELOW! Now for the happy news: You walk in and it looks like my grandmother has tried her hand at decorating an Italian restaurant, but not to worry — that only means you’ll soon be enjoying a meal that could’ve come straight out of her kitchen(if she had been Italian that is). The lunch specials are great and all come with hot, addictive garlic bread that you can eat like jelly beans if you’re not careful(and will be magically refilled as soon as basket is empty — dieters, you have been warned!) A good fresh salad but save room for the pièce de résistance: the shrimp dish. Tastes just like Shrimp Paesanos but for less. WORDOFCAUTION: This is a slightly tough neighborhood to be in at night if you are not familiar with it. Don’t let it detour you during the day, it’ll be worth the trip — but ladies and families with kids may enjoy a lunch visit more than one at dusk/night. This is across the street from the shopping center that holds Moroccan Bites.

This is my first 1 star review. I cannot believe how disappointed I was with this restaurant. Lets first start off with the ambience. When walking in we weren’t even greeted and we had to search for someone to seat us. when seated our drink orders were taken and bread was brought to the table. I will say I felt like the busser was more of our waiter then anyone else. it took us over 15 mins to order because our waitress(owner I believe) decided to sit down with her friends and leave everyone else in the restaurant waiting on her. When she finally came over I could barely get another word in because she kept cutting me off and then left. I know it wasn’t just to me because I saw her doing that with other customers. I then had to wait wait and wait again just to ask for a water refill. I seriously just wanted to ask for a pitcher. Once the food came out this is where everything went downhill. I was SO disappointed with the flavors and overall taste. I ordered their signature Shrimp Rafaelo and it was NOT worth its price. One, I should have shrimp that is all uniformed in size. Second, the bread crust should not be separating, Third, the shrimp and crust should not feel mushy. Forth, That butter garlic sauce had no balance to it. Our calamari order felt like we were eating rubber bands and the marinara sauce had an over powering spice. My spaghetti was undercooked and was not Al Dente! My buddies Chicken Parm too had soggy breading. Overall, I will NOT come back and I would NOTRECCOMMEND this place to anyone!

Seriously would have like to try this place, however we sat at our table for 10 minutes and NOONEEVEN acknowledged me. They had maybe 5 tables at most and didnt see a server the entire time we were there. There was a lady eating at a table as I walked in who had to seat us. Professionalism out the window. Blehhhh we will go somewhere else.

Food: Every single dish I’ve had there has always satisfied my tastes(you can’t go wrong with the classics: ravioli, manicotti, spaghetti Bolognese, etc.). Every meal also comes with a salad and the bread is endless and addicting. But perhaps the best part of every meal is the sauce: homemade, plentiful and delicious beyond belief. 5⁄5 Service: the owner will usually seat you, and bring out water and take your drink order. She’s friendly though her face says otherwise. The waiter(yes there is only one) is new and a little awkward but he brings out your food and that’s about it. It’s not bad service, it’s not great either. 3.5÷5 Overall if you want Italian food from a traditional restaurant, not a chain, this is the place to go.

The two stars I give this restaurant is mainly for their service. I don’t mind trying a new place. So after reading a few reviews I decided to give this place a try. When I walked in I was definitely skeptical because the place smelled of old carpet. I’m not trying to be mean or discredit the restaurant, but it looks old and smells old. But hey, never judge a book by its cover. We were greeted and seated promptly. Service was very good(only 3 – 4 tables of people while we were there). The menu said something like $ 11 or $ 13 for tortellini, which I really wanted to try. I decided to add chicken($ 8 extra). I was sadly disappointed when I received a plate of tortellini with a few stringy, breaded, nugget looking, fried chicken pieces the size of my pinky on top. The food was nothing special. And after we were the only ones left in the restaurant, it took forever to get our check. Garlic bread was ok. Oh and I got stuck in the restroom. The doorknob/lock is falling apart. I kinda freaked out. But after a few minutes(no exaggeration) I was able to jiggle it enough to get out. Not impressed and certainly not going back.
