Great food and different from what you may expect. Excellent quality and very tasty. Must try the chips and homemade salsa. Wow!

The best fruit tart we’ve had in San Antonio so far. We are new to Unilocal and wanted to make Marioli out first review because of the fruit tart. The custard is just perfect. They don’t use much glaze so the fruits are fresh. Sometimes they have raspberries and sometime it’s a berry mix. We will be back for another tart soon. Thanks so much for reading.

I’m so torn on this place. The food is delicious. These are some of the best Pastor tacos in town — about as close to Mexico City street tacos as you’re going to get. Unfortunately, this spot just doesn’t get enough traffic to deliver sizzling pastor fresh off the spit. Maybe we always go at the wrong times, but we’ve yet to be served that crisp, sizzling meat that makes for a perfect pastor taco. My main complaint though, is that food handling is sub-par. We ordered our tacos and watched through the window as the woman sliced the meat, threw it on the grill, and then proceeded to snack on that meat as she cooked. She kept picking out little pieces to eat, and sucking her fingers with each bite. Unnerving, to say the least. We almost walked out, but then another guy took her place at the grill and was far more professional in his food handling. Thankfully, the first batch of tacos went to someone else, and we got ours sans picky fingers.

This is a special Mexican restaurant. Special not only because they serve authentic interior Mexican but also because it is home style authentic Mexican. Not that it is perfect: the menu is somewhat limited. Prices are above average, especially for sweet bread. And most of the stuff they sell is not made in the moment but refrigerated and heated. But it’s like coming home to a ‘reclaentado’. My favorites at Marioli are their Tacos al Pastor(served in the evenings), Enchiladas, Sopes de tinga(pulled chicken), Sopa de Fideos(Mexican pasta with tomato sauce) and their sweets — which include sweat bread, chocolate covered cereal(try it!) and other pastries. Probably not the best Mexican in Texas or in San Antonio, but definitely a place you should try.

I’ve been many times at Marioli, but only for their Tacos al Pastor, which were the best in the Stone Oak area before other places like Que Taco, La Doña, opened. Still, the tacos are«good» but this review is based ONLY in today’s «Pan De Muerto». To say that it was a disappointment Would be a huge understatement. I am Mexican, 48 years old, we eat this bread on November 1&2, been doing so forever, so it is a big deal. Since we moved to SA16 years ago, we always struggled to find Pan De Muerto on this day, but we’ve tried different places over the years, some really good, others just OK, this time we decided to give Marioli a try, big mistake. The only thing close to a real traditional Pan de Muerto is the subtle flavor of orange blossom essence and the shape –kinda– other than that is horrible. The crust is completely burnt, the inside is dry, and almost no flavor at all. It looks like the whole batch they baked, had issues with the proofing of the dough, some were flat as pancakes. I’m posting a pic of the actual bread, and all of you that have had real pan de muerto, will not let me lie on this post. All that is left after eating the bread is a bitter after taste that just lingers on your mouth. I’m giving 2 stars taking in consideration that this place is not a bakery, but I can’t understand why jeopardize their excellent reputation by putting out a mediocre product. I will still be back for tacos, but never again for pan de Muerto.

I’m often in the Stone Oak area to study and was craving Mexican, particularly mini tacos. There aren’t many options, so I gave this place a shot. I think this might be the only place in the area that has mini tacos. They serve mini tacos with bistek and other types of meat only in the evening time which is what I came for. I ordered the bistek mini tacos. The beef was pretty flavorful and they make it fresh on the grill. I wanted grilled onions, but they wouldn’t do it for me. The portion is a little small here for the price and I think adding one more mini taco would make this meal more filling. I wish the tacos also came with avocado, but they don’t. Another con is they only use one corn tortilla instead of two like most places, so the taco isn’t as sturdy. The ambiance here isn’t super inviting. It’s kind of cafeteria like inside with cheap tables. The workers are all hispanic and you might feel a little out of place if you aren’t Hispanic since the majority of their patrons are hispanic/Mexican nationals in the area and the workers tend to cater to them/act friendlier towards them/speak mostly Spanish. Overall, if your really craving mini tacos in Stone Oak this might be your only bet. I don’t think I’ll be coming here too often though.

Their tacos pastor and salsas are worth the stop alone, but everything looks appetizing. Desserts are quality as well.

Well we didn’t have ANY idea what to expect here. We made our selection based on the great Unilocal reviews and on its location. We realized it was more of a to-go place by the sign out front that said«to GOurmet» … Everything we ordered was pre-made, and just reheated once we got there — most of it you could view in the glass case where you order. But it was good. My husband ordered a chile relleno, which he loved(I didn’t care for it too much). It came with a side of rice and borracho beans which were both good, although the beans had excess bacon, in my opinion(not flavor-wise too much bacon, but just too many little pieces of soggy bacon in them). I ordered a sope, which was really good, although the lettuce they put on top seemed like it was used as garnish in the case, so it wasn’t the freshest lettuce I’ve ever seen. I also tried the cochinita pibil, which was very strongly spiced(not heat, just flavor), and was good with the corn tortillas served(but too strongly flavored to really eat alone). On our way out we also grabbed a concha, which was awesome. Overall, I look forward to coming back, I just wish the prices were a little lower since everything is pre-cooked.

The food here is actually not that bad. My wife and I had the tacos(carne asada and al-pastor) and we both thought they were pretty good, fresh, and seasoned well. The only issue that my wife and I would complain about is the amount of food you get for the price. They are mini«street» tacos, but I’ve never seen someone actually give one tortilla instead of two tortillas per mini taco. If they gave a bit more meat then it would’ve compensated for the missing tortilla, but that’s just me being picky. That essentially led my wife and I to buy another order since it wasn’t enough food. We somehow ended up spending around $ 40 for the tacos and 2 beers.

Not a bad little joint… it’s located directly to the right of Starbucks. Family owned… super nice people… great case full of baked goods & pre-prepared/just heat it up food from chicken tinga(I had a taste… it’s meh), cochinita pibil, lasagna, & what I’ll call«chalupas» but sitting on a masa cake instead of a crispy shell. The interior is cute, clean & very café-ish. Very casual. We shared the Reuben & Marioli sandwich… super stuffed with corned beef, good bread, but my fav part was the super pica sauce on both, which made the sandwiches unique & fun. Both come with an ample amount if crinkled potato chips & a pickle spear(which tasted like the pickle it themselves)! The brownies in the case looked super moist & delicious… we eyed them the entire meal. There were two ginormous plates of them &, after a lady bought an entire plate to go, we had to have one. Big(think slice of pie big), moist, yummy bursts of chocolate… oh so good… bumped up the review a star just cause of the brownie. A great place to eat in the sea of bad/chain food in Stone Oak!

Marioli’s, is not terrible, but it’s not that good either just sort of an, Ehh feeling. The place is clean and looks modern. I went with two guys I used to work with in a kitchen, they both made fun of me for ordering Horchata, calling it a kids drink, but had we been at Denny’s I would’ve order chocolate milk, so I guess they have a point. We all got tacos, they ordered for me since the waitress spoke only spanish to us. To all of our dismay, the tacos came with pickled red onions as a garnish. We asked for chopped onion and cilantro, and I kid you not, our waitress got into an elevator and went somewhere for a very long time, by the time she came back with it we where all on our last taco. We defiantly looked out of place, all three of us in t-shirts and jeans, everyone else in a dress or a tie. We were kind of loud and laughing a lot, everyone else seemed to be reading the Wall St. Journal. Got some dirty looks. But hey, I guess thats just, Stone Oak. I don’t think we’ll be going back to Marioli’s anytime soon.

Cleanliness is about the only thing this place has going for it. All four of our entrees were served luke warm, and did not come with the sauces we requested. Dessert although ordered was never served, and this service was slow despite us being the ONLY people in the restaurant. I’m really confused why this place is still in business. I went here based on the other Unilocal reviews which now appear to be pretty suspect. Personally I’ll be the first one in line for whatever replaces this place once it shuts down.

I loved this place. My whole family, originally from Mexico, did as well. Great authentic Mexican fare in Stone Oak. Food is fresh and delicious and the pastries are divine. Wide variety of food and perfect for gourmet take-out.

Their website says they are«much more than a Mexican» eatery and it’s true. In addition to ceviche, tacos al pastor and cochinita pibil, you can get club sandwich, caesar salad, and meatloaf. The baked goods are also a mix of cultures. There’s the traditional brownie and pecan pie displayed alongside tres leches cupcake and chocoflan. We enjoy their Mexican offerings more. So we tend to go after 6pm. That’s when they bring out the al pastor on a spit and grill up street tacos. Can’t say it’s the best we’ve ever had. But it does the job when we are in the Stone Oak area. The service is always nice. Smiles from every team member. That alone would make us come back for more.

Been to this place twice and I’ve enjoyed the food each time. I think they are a catering company with this restaurant on the side. Typical daily options are presented in the refrigerated case that can be heated up at home. There is also a printed menu for freshly prepared items such as sandwiches and salads. The staff was very helpful when I asked for descriptions. I ended up ordering the Berry Good salad with chicken, and it was awesome. Who knew a salad could be so good? At night, they have pork on a rotating spit to trim fresh for al pastor tacos, topped with sliced pineapple, cilantro, and onions. Haven’t seen it this authentic since I was in Mexico. I also fell in love with their mini apple pies which are a nice treat when you want something sweet for the moment.

Posted this on fb So many good reviews BUT I called to use my groupon & was told too late to pick up that day. OK I said pick up Friday. after working 9 hrs went there drove home wrong order. Instead of tilapia they gave me THURSDAYS pork dish. Yuk. Old.called. They said so sorry come back for fish. Drove all the way back, got fish, but they said no more sides??? Nothing else, just no more… mind you the meals are PAIDFOR! No one cared or offered any help. Now dreading picking up 2nd meal on Monday that is part of groupon deal. NOTIMPRESSED by business ethics here… too bad since we eat out most days. Sent from my iPad
