Out of business. Can’t believe the listing is still up after all this time.

They steam the burgers. STEAM. THE. BURGERS. They actually advertise it as hot-​off-​the-​grill, steamed-​in onion flavored Krystal burgers. Steamed in onion flavor? It’s about as good as it sounds.

I ended up in San Antonio on Tuesday doing sightseeing with friends. I saw the Krystal Burger location and had to stop. I am a Krystal Lover, yep, I’m hooked, I love the steamed little burgers, with cheese and onions, and mustard and pickle, I ate 5 of them, and they kind of disintegrate in your mouth.
Don’t be hate-​ing!
The fries were good as well, that is saying something since I hate almost everybody’s fries.
I only have one rule, I don’t care who I am with if I see a Krystal place I am stopping.
Would I go back? Yes many times, over and over again.

I found out about Krystal Burgers after a long night down Bourbon St. in New Orleans!;) I was super excited to see this place open up in SA. I always order the regular #1, if I’m feeling lucky I’ll order their chili fries which are delish. Their pull up order system (similar to Zonics) gives u the option to tune into your favorite TV channel. It’s great to have these burgers before/​after a good flick at Live Oak Theater;)

I was ridiculously excited to discover this location of Krystal burger. Now I don’t have to drive all the way to New Orleans for some slider deliciousness!
Krystal burger is the White Castle of the South. Their sliders are delicious and cheap! For $ 12.99 you can get 12 sliders, 2 fries, & 2 drinks. What a deal! You can order from your car and have a server bring your order out to you (Sonic-​esque), or they also have a traditional drive-​thru if you’re in more of a rush.

Terrible service, long waits, dirty inside.

I suppose that if you’re just really in to eating steamed hamburgers, similar to those served at White Castle, then Krystal will be right up your alley.
For most everyone else, though, they’ll find the food to be not all that great and not especially cheap either. Additionally, the wait time for the food seems absurdly long for something that is, more or less, pre-​made.
Without a doubt, novelty plays a huge factor in a restaurant like this. Yes, they serve steamed mini-​burgers and, especially in Texas, that’s quite unique. However, in the land where beef is plentiful (and cheap), Krystal doesn’t quite stack up.

My only complaint about this place is the wait time. We sat out at the drive in part for quite some time and no one ever came to take our order, so we had to go through the drive thru. We were the only car there! The food is good. The spicy chicks are super spicy. Go for the fiesta fries! They’re like a cross between Chik-fil-a’s and Jack in the Box’s curly fries.

Krystal is really a cool place to take your kids. They have a Sonic type drive-​inn with some large flat screen TVs so the kids can watch TV. The small Krystal burgers and chicken sandwiches are good. I also liked the mini chili cheese dogs which are called Pups. My son really enjoyed it and wanted to return the next day.
