Well what can I say about Jones. I’ll start off by saying Jones is a true Bar-B-que joint in all of the true meaning. it’s been there for years and with alot prayers I hope it’s there for many more. They have very good brisket, ribs and sausage better than most big or notable operations. I’ve been to many BBQ places from west, north, east and south texas, I must say Jones does it as it should be. they are a true Texas tradition. if you’re looking for fancy frills this ain’t the place, for that go to Rudys or Gradys they have fluff. you want old fashion Bar-B –Que stop here Jones.

We went here based on a glowing review in the Fearless Critic. They actually ranked it as San Antonio’s top BBQ restaurant, and while it wasn’t quite at that level on our visit, we were generally impressed by the food. The establishment resides in a simple red building with handwritten signage out front. It wouldn’t look out of place in 1930s Alabama. Inside, you walk across the small dining space to a man behind a window and counter. There, you place your order, and minutes later, the food is handed to you. We ordered a beef brisket sandwich, the sausage plate, and some pork ribs. The sandwich was great. The bread is simple white sandwich bread, but with meat that flavorful and juicy, it’s hard not to rave. The sausage plate came with two links of sausage, pre-cut into bite sized pieces, some baked beans, a lump of potato salad, and two more slices of Wonder bread. The two side items were a little bland, but the sausage was good and clearly made in the shop. The texture was a little different that what you may be used to(being more coarse), but the flavor was good. It was especially tasty with some of their BBQ sauce and on the bread. The ribs were great; very flavorful and juicy, although they could have had a little more meat on them. So the food sounds great, but why only 4 stars? The service, mostly. The man who took our order was elderly and, although we repeated it multiple times, the order came out wrong. We asked for no pickles, just onion and sauce, on all the items. Instead, everything came out with a mound of pickles, and no onions at all. He sort of harumphed about giving us a small bowl of onions. They also only gave us one fork, and a total of 3 napkins. We had to specifically ask for a couple cups of water, as they didn’t suggest ordering beverages. Basically, while we got the food quickly and it was delicious, the service just had an air of aloofness that we didn’t care for. Overall, if we lived on that side of town, we wouldn’t hesitate to go back. However, it isn’t quite as mind blowing as the Fearless Critic led us to believe, and you can get similar quality at certain other BBQ restaurants in town.
