Genghis Grill

The food is great but they seriously need new management. The place is run by high schoolers who don’t pay attention to their customers. They’re rude and the restaurant is filthy. So much wasted potential.

Despite the fact that it was 6pm, only a couple of other occupied tables when we arrived. After seeing how the prices have gone up and the bowls have gotten smaller, that could be part of it, but the staff could have something to do with it, too.
First thing the server asked was if we wanted an appetizer. When we said no, he left without taking a drink order. We finally got that done & then he left again for 10 minutes without leaving us any bowls. Food line was out of beef, spills hadn’t been cleaned up, no cups for the peanuts, noodles and other add-​ins. No silverware until we asked, no refills until we asked. We even asked another waiter about refills and instead of bringing them he told our waiter, who still took another 5 minutes to bring them. Remember, these 2 people were watching a total of 3 tables between them.
The check had to be reprinted because it had something we didn’t even order on it. When I got home I realized he had put our meal points on someone else’s Khans Klub account. We will never return to this restaurant! I hope the Forum Genghis has better service, because hubby always wants to go here for his birthday. If not, we will be done with Genghis altogether. It’s much cheaper to just buy the ingredients we want and make them in our wok at home.
And I don’t mind sports being on the TV, but could it be something other than UFC with people kicking the tar out of each other and bleeding while I’m eating?

Went for dinner last night with my family and the food was pretty good. We were offered $ 1.00 off the potsticker appetizer so we went ahead and ordered it. My daughter and I each ordered the small bowl, which is a lot of food, and my son and husband got the medium bowl. After we finished eating and received the bill, they charge my daughter for a medium bowl instead of a small bowl. My husband pointed out the error on the ticket and actually had to argue with the waitress about it since they had already cleared the table. When she brought the corrected ticket back, we were not given the discounted appetizer. I don’t think we will be back. It really ruined our evening. It’s not fun or enjoyable to finish your dinner with an argument.

Perhaps because there aren’t very many good Asian options here in San Antonio but dang, I thought this place was really overpriced. But besides the price, they offer a great selection and my bowl was packed full of flavor. The small look pretty stinkin small and you can’t really cramp too much in there but it’s still enough to fill me up, but then again I’m fairly petite. The drinks were really yummy and the service is on point!

What a fun place to eat after church. Very family friendly and if you leave hungry you did it wrong.
Once you get there you’ll pick which size bowl you want. Then go get in line.
They have a small section of recipe cards with suggestions/​recipes on them. I tried one of them today. I put together the Thai Coconut shrimp. It was really good.
My kids just jumped in an added whatever they wanted.
Lunch was enjoyed by all. Maybe this will be our new Sunday thing.

The food was great, felt like some of my potion didn’t make it to the bowl. I don’t over do it. But missing some things.

I was hungry and i just picked a random place and it happend to be this place. Went in there not know what to expect. Immediately i was blown away. The staff was super nice. The food was great. Deffenatly going out of my to come back here again.

I have been here a couple times the past week and have been very satisfied. The food is overall great. The only downside I can see is the price is a little bit high for what you get.

You get a lot of food and it’s all customized, but the location is kinda lame, seating is odd and it’s a little more than I’d like to pay. They do have booze, which is nice. Not a bad place for a work-​lunch. Easy to make things spicy but you could just go to a standard Thai place if ya want that kinda thing.

This was my first visit to genghis grill, and while I really enjoy this style restaurant, unfortunately this experience just wasn’t very good. The self serve area where you choose your proteins, wasn’t very clean — especially considering how few people were in the restaurant, and the chicken looked a little questionable. The veggies were fairly fresh though, and the sauces were clearly marked. I had steamed and fried rice in my dish, but both were pretty dry.
Apparently they used to offer an all you can eat option — that’s half the fun of a place like this so you can try different combinations — but now it’s one and done. In my opinion, the value just wasn’t there.

There were 2 tables occupied when we walked in to place our usual to-​go order. The host pulled out some small cards, asked for our names, then asked what size bowls we wanted.
Oh, boy.
So, the regular bowl is now about 20% smaller, but the price went up 30%. I see now why they weren’t busy.
That will be our last visit to Genghis Grill. Too bad. It used to be a special treat!

My wife and I enjoy Mongolian grill/​bbq when it is done well.
The food on your plate is only as good as the freshness of the ingredients. The good thing about this type of restaurant is that you can see the freshness of the ingredients.
They definitely failed the test.
The ingredients were of 3d quality and something I would have returned to the store. The meat was dried out from being frozen too long and was stringy.
The service was almost non-​existent at the beginning and only was noticeable when it came close to deciding on how much to tip.
Definitely not coming back.

I always like my food here, but it is inarguably overpriced and I have never received more than mediocre service. It is $ 30 for my teenage brother and I to each get a bowl and an iced tea, which is a lot considering that we aren’t big eaters. It is nice that you can load up your bowl with meat and they don’t charge you extra, but at that point I’d rather just cook at home. I wont complain about going here, the food is good. With better service, I’d give it four stars.

For American best Asian food I love it here my standards of Asian food is high but here they really hit the mark. I always come here and get the exact Asian flavors I want spice, ginger garlic, spice, veggies, and proteins.
$ 10.99 for me it’s overpriced but in San Antonio you’re better off paying. If I may when you come and choose your own ingredients start from the veggies and then reverse all back to the protein. You can get more out of that little bowl if you start from the veggie bar on to the protein versus proteins onto veggies. Also, you really don’t need that much protein I know it’s there and it’s eye-​popping to choose as much but you really don’t need that much Asian food is pretty 50 – 50 on their ingredient of protein and vegetables.

I love this place! They have an awesome beer selection (Kirin Ichiban and Tsingtao particularly) and the girl who waited on us was so sweet and helpful! Delicious, fresh and well cooked too!

Amazing food just like always. The service and atmosphere are top notch. I’ve been to other similar places and this place blows them all away. Great job, cant wait to go back…

This is definitely my favorite stir fry in the city. Always great — ingredients are great in selection, you can make special requests, & pick your starch. Servers are usually great, & they make sure we are taken care of. The MoneySaver coupons they send in the mail keep us coming here at least once a month, so great marketing there! This is a family favorite and we will continue to come here as long as it remains as yummy and hospitable of a restaurant!

We went to Gengis Grill and took some first timers along with us. The waiter was very patient and knowledgeable regarding the menu. Everyone really enjoyed the food as it is always fresh and healthy!

Great lunch here. We met the owner who does the cooking himself as well. His grilling technique is the best we’ve ever had at a Genghis Grill. Out of the several locations we have eaten at this is by far the best. Michael was was our server and very attentive. The meat and vegetable build your own bar was fresh and very much filled with quality products. Great selection as you didn’t feel like they cheap and what you can add to your bowl The place is clean and well cared for. They had a special on appetizers today so we got the pot stickers. Highly recommend and don’t forget to ask for your frequency card that can help you earn rewards towards free meals.

So the wife and I tried this place for the first time tonight. It was great.
The idea is easy: get a bowl, fill it with meat/​veggies/​spices and pick you sauce on the side, give it to the grill master with your choice of carb and enjoy!
The choices were all fresh and tasty, cooked quickly and came to our table piping hot. The wait staff was on top of it and we never felt neglected.
Would recommend the 1604 location to anybody!
