Restaurant was really clean, service was good, food was cooked well. Food tasted bad. Nothing was fresh. Most ingredients were floating in water. The meat looked inedible. Too many frozen veggie choices. However, the udon noodles were great!

The quality and atmosphere have gone downhill since this place opened. It was so quiet in there I thought I was going to hear the cliché cricket-chirping. I stood at the hostess stand for about 5 minutes before anyone casually walked over and then asked if it was a table for four… um…I’m standing here by myself. WTF?! I went in for my «free» birthday bowl, which is only the small bowl just FYI. The meats looked questionable and were not frozen like I am accustomed to seeing. The food just did not taste good at all. I’m glad Chipotle was right around the corner. Like another review said, everything felt sticky and dirty. I will not be going back. Hu Hot here I come.

First of I want to say I gave this place two chances and both times were a complete Fail. i only give this place one star because right when u walk in it smells like dirty sink water. Then the meat is not even frozen. Especially the chicken is all thawed out. veggies do not look fresh and there was little tiny fruit flies in there dead, the smell gets worst as your making your bowl. So that’s a complete turn off, and then all the employees look half awake and half asleep! Don’t know what is going on there. No one greets u at the entrance and beware of the bathrooms!!! They are nasty! Sorry but I will not be going back on a count of I don’t want to get sick! Hope this is helpful.

Should have read the reviews before we stopped here. I agree with the comments on the smell. The meats were not frozen and had been left to thaw. The floor was dirty, and the couple before us just walked out. The spices had been mixed up, and the veggies were not fresh at all. We notified our waitress, and were told we still had to pay for the drinks and edamame. We left and just went to Wendy’s :)

What a horrible experience. As soon as my friend and I arrived no one greeted us for a while. Finally someone saw us and instead of greeting us starting yelling at the host from across the restaurant, several times. A minute or so later the host finally came out. He looked bored and like he didn’t want to help us. In the meantime a line is building up behind us waiting to be seated. As we finally were seated we then had to wait for our server to greet us. As I’m looking around I see other servers moving rather slowly and standing around and chatting. I look up and everyone behind us in line before has already gotten there food. The server, finally approaches with no sense of urgency whatsoever even though we waited patiently for a while takes out order. She comes back with bowls but forgot our drink order, which was just 2 waters. Finally we get in line to load up our bowls! When we get there we notice it smells! It smells horrible! It made me nauseous! After all of that we finally called it and left. I can’t tell you how the food was cause I didn’t make it that far. It smelled like food poisoning to be, raw completely thawed out(it should be frozen) meat sitting on the counter smelling as if it had gone bad already. We just had to leave. Horrible service! And that place literally stinks!

This place is amazingly gluten friendly! I was disappointed that they only had a few gluten friendly sauces, but otherwise the selection was great. I was impressed by the details. When I told them I was gluten intolerant, they made a special effort to clean the area used to prepare my meal. Additionally, they double checked to make sure I didn’t accidentally use any gluten items in the bowl I made myself. With a little more selection, it would get 5 stars!

Brother suggested this place as one of his favorites. Meh. Meal was delicious and flavorful and very filling, although not the least bit even-trying-to-pretend-to-be Mongolian as it offers udon noodles(yum get this) and tortillas(what?) in addition to brown rice or fried rice as a starch. Basically you get choose a small/medium/large bowl, fill it up with meat/veggies/sauce and they cook it with your choice of starch at the end. The large bowl looks like a tiny cereal bowl, but it will be more than enough since they add a lot of starch. Pack your bowl as much as you can since the meat/veggies will«shrink» when cooked. Again it was good, but a few qualms, like: smelled funny when we walked in? I infer it came from the smell of the raw meat(white chicken breast pieces, fatty pork cuts, etc.) left in the buffet-like trays when you choose your meats/veggies to be cooked; smell was stronger there and I wasn’t sure if there was any evidence of ice or something to keep it fresh. Maybe it’s just me, but because you serve yourself these raw items in a bowl before they cook it, and despite the sneeze guards and it will be cooked, I don’t really trust the general public to handle meat themselves in a sanitary and courteous manner, nawwhatimsayin? Just makes me wary since unlike buffets the food options didn’t seemed to be constantly monitored and replaced for freshness. Other than that, it was Americanized Asian flavored goodness, although to call it Mongolian is laughable and quite a stretch.

I didn’t trust half the meat like the chicken not being frozen … They didn’t have much for sauce options. The alcohol license is expired. The bar was dirty. I thought it was weird that they charge 2 different price for lunch and dinner for the same portion… Normally restaurant has two different portion and the dinner being larger that’s why they charge more.

I use to love this place the food was fresh and healthy if you left out the noodle/rice part. It also was a endless bowl type thing and now it’s gone to poo. The food was not great and the place smells like a dirty wash rag. Oh a word to corp… Once you set your image as bottomless you might want to keep it as such.

I used to frequent Genghis up in the Dallas area(and if you’re expecting that down here you should go across the highway and check out HuHot). The service here is nice but that’s about where the pleasant experience ends. First off, at this location you have to select a bowl size rather than just a flat price for as much as you feel appropriate. Secondly, I was told the price for shrimps has gone up and rather than simply up charge for an expensive product, they simply choose not to carry shrimp at all. Let your customer decide not to buy something, don’t make the decision for us. Furthermore on the shrimps issue, don’t include a non-stocked item in your recipe descriptions. Finally, their TABC license expired so they’re no longer able to sell alcohol. Sorry Genghis, I tried, but three strikes and you’re out.

You can LITERALLY smell the place when you walk in. It smells like bad meat. This is the second time I have walked in, seen the raw meat at the bar turning brown, seen the service bar dirty and have complained only to have the server say«yeah, I’ve heard that». Gross! We went next door to another restaurant and it was packed. Genghis had 1 couple sitting at a table during dinner rush hour. Seems many other patrons have caught on to the fact that this is not the place to eat, unless you want food poisoning. I even tried calling 4 times to speak to a manager, just on the off chance that maybe they just have a crappy night time manager that doesn’t care what kind of food they are serving. No one answered any of the 4 times I called, not even the hostess.

My first time eating here and I was welcomed with a smile from the host and manager. Great food choices, healthy veggies and lean meats. Excellent gluten free options. I really enjoyed the food and will definitely be back.

Friendly, fast staff. But honestly this place has a campus food feel to it. Hokey theme, questionable meat handling methods, and very small selection of ingredients to throw in your bowl. I’ve tried it twice now. If I were forced to eat on campus for every meal, I’d probably pick this place over most. I might keep it in the queue for a quick work lunch place, but that’s about it.

I’ve always been a fan of the Genghis Grill since being introduced to it back up in Ft. Worth and I was totally stoked to learn of how close this location is to my new place. This ones a little smaller than I am used to/was expecting, but can’t really fault them on that. First off-I didn’t realize they had happy hour, but they do! From 3pm(maybe 4pm) to 6pm and from 9pm to close they have some pretty awesome drink specials, as well as a full bar. Second-this location offers a roadrunner appreciation discount, so UTSA students, get those ID’s out and save yourself some cash(and then spending it here during happy hour). Third-the set up and food is the same you see at any other GG location. BUT what made this location stand out(and all of the previously stated knowledge possible) was our AWESOME server, Sarah! She was amazing. Also learned you can mix your rice/noodles options, ask for extra on the starch/carbs, and also get extra sauce dishes for your bowl before you give it over for cooking. Our drinks stayed full as we filled our tummy’s. Suffice it to say, we’ve been here many a time so far and will continue so to come to this location, thanks to the awesome staff(and discount) haha!

I generally love genghis grill, but this location is absolutely abominable which is a shame because its so conveniently located. There are a few absolutely sweet & friendly servers(hence the second star given) but normally you’re stuck with the most lousy waitresses. Their only job is to bring your bowl and refill drinks. However, the past two times we’ve been there we literally had to beg for refills, there was some sort of mass confusion giving us the appropriate bowls although we were one of only a few tables in the restaurant, and we had to wait an agonizingly long time for the check. The checks seem to always be wrong as well, adding drinks when you had a water and such. This location also feels more dirty than the others — the spoons and tongs to create your bowl are all contaminated feeling and the hand sanitizer dispensers are so greasy and seem to have days of salmonella contamination on it, almost defeating the purpose of using it. The bowls are always more charred here than other locations, it seems like they forget its cooking and walk away? Also, there is always remnants of stuff I didn’t want in my bowl. I always judge the cleanliness of the«behind the scenes» part of the restaurant by the condition of the bathrooms. I’m assuming the kitchen is the worst kind kind of cesspool imaginable, a genghis hell if you will. There was no toilet paper, only a roll of paper towels on the ground right next to the toilet. The best part is that the toilet was surrounded by dying beetles. Giant ones, the ones that fly into your face without notice. There was obviously no regard for the cleanliness of the bathrooms, so I wonder what else they don’t care about. Poor service, burnt to a crisp bowls, dying bugs surrounding their porcelain thrones? No thanks. We kept coming back several times in hopes that things will change but it just steadily gets more disappointing & unsanitary. It’s worth the drive to the Forum — that location is fantastic.

I live in the medical center area and occasionally get«Date night» coupons for this place in the mail– usually a flat rate combo for two: two dinner bowls, and a specified appetizer and dessert, for about $ 20 or $ 25. Not bad. When you walk in, it’s similar to the nearby HuHot– you’re seated, there’s a menu with additional appetizers/options, but ultimately you go through a line and fill a bowl with your preferred ingredients(meats, veggies, sauces) and get it grilled up and served with a carb of some sort(various rices/pastas). While overall this was not a bad experience, being that it is located so closely to our other Mongolian dining option(again, HuHot), I couldn’t help but compare the two– the distinct difference being that for a relatively close cost, you get as many trips through the stir fry line as you want at HuHot, but here there is an extra charge to do so, which puts it too high for me to consider reasonable(though I don’t recall specific numbers at this time). The desserts we’ve had here were unimpressive, though I hear they have different promotional items every so often that they are using as trial items for long-term menu spots. So, if you get a mailer with the Date Night coupons, definitely check it out, but this place didn’t make my must-return-to list.

First time here was ok. But this time all three of our bowls are so overcooked. Big part of our food is charcoaled. Also, I think value-wise, Hu Hot Mongolian Grill is better. For 1 – 2 more bucks, you get all you can eat. Service is good though and the manager offered us a new bowl for the severely charcoaled one. Otherwise, I would have given 2 stars only.

So how can you mess up food that you«prepare»? The worst waitress! She was young and this was probably her first job but they really??? It is half common sense, right? When you bring out an app there should be plates that come with it. Or when your customers ask questions you should have answers… that make sense. Or when you ask for something they should bring it. Everyone else working was very helpful. Food is good and they ingredients looked fresh but they need to work out some kinks. They didn’t have the seasoning listed on their recipe cards but an employee told me which 3 seasoning to combine to make it… so I am confused on they they didn’t have the seasoning made.
