Cheap, delicious ice cream bars in a wide variety of flavors. Banana is my favorite. I can’t think of anything bad to say about this place, very simple business model. Sometimes they send a cart by the schools which the kids love. Hooray, ice cream!

Right there by the Woodlawn(and across from the new Filipino place) was this ice cream place sticking out of nowhere. An interesting treat awaits you inside, ice cream pops«Paletas» of about 20 different flavors, at $.50 a pop. You can go in and buy one like I did(a very delicious piña colada) but there were many people buying in quantity, for gatherings/parties/etc.

Seriously the best coconut fruit bar I’ve ever tasted! We are on vacation and I just looked up ice cream places in the SA area. This wasn’t what we expected, had to buy a handful to make up the minimum debit card requirement, but it was so worth it. Made fresh daily. I wish they were closer to home!

A friend had a party for her one year old. She rented the paleta cart and bought a bunch of Popsicles. All of the flavors we tried were delicious(coconut and pineapple with chile). She said it was really affordable too. Highly recommend!

Two words: Pickle Paleta. Grew up in S.A., but now Nebraska is home. My folks drove down to S.A. for a trip and returned with a case of assorted El Paraiso paletas that survived in dry ice. I got a hold of a pickle-flavored paleta today, which I used to enjoy as a kid. Yum. At 50-cents a paleta, that put a few in our freezer.

Came in from Houston and have been wanting to try this place. Finely did. Couldn’t decide so had 3; mango, coffee/espresso, and cheesecake. All 3 were delicious. The price can’t be beat.

What can I say about a store that is open almost every day of the year until 9 pm, serves an incredible diversity of paletas for 50 cents each, and lets you sit in the parking lot with your AC running while you munch? It’s hot today, and after munching on my tamarind paleta, I was a measurable 50% more comfortable. Well, OK, not measurable — but I challenge you to try one of these paletas and not feel happier about the heat of the day. Some flavors I noted: tamarind, pineapple, pineapple con chili, chocolate, piña colada, lemon(green), lemon con chili, pecan, strawberry, and — wait for it – pickle — and others I can’t recall. Check it out for yourself and add to the list.

What a nice surprise to find just before the theatre! We arrived early at the Woodlawn Theatre, and needed a treat after lunch and something to do, and this was two doors down. Wow! El Paraiso was about thirty different flavors of popsicles, some with cream and some with just water and fruit. My wife chose a lemon, which was green, and I was really craving real ice cream, so I had a delicious chocolate and then a cookies and cream. 50 cents each! Chocolate was by far the best, or maybe I’m just one of those who feels that it isn’t dessert unless it’s chocolate. We even bought a block of dry ice for our cooler in the car for 50 cents. Total outlay, $ 2! There were lots of people filling up little plastic laundry baskets with lots of popsicles, that they put in brown paper bags and then raced home to the freezer(or bought a block of dry ice.) Cool, ethnic place and such a treat on a hot summer day! Worth the trip, although you might spend more on gas than you do on popsicles, but I understand they have lots of carts around the city so they might just come into your neighborhood!

I always have to stop in here when I’m on this side of town. Only .50 or an ice cream bar. These are handmade and so delicious. My favorite is the strawberry one. I love buying into those little pieces of fresh strawberries. I do like te pickle and pineapple chilie as well but I just have to be in the mood for one.

There are days when your dog runs away from home. Someone doesn’t hold the elevator for you and the groceries in your paper bag fall out of the bottom waiting to catch the next one. You have seventy-five cents left in your checking account. Well quit feeling sorry for yourself, leave twenty-five cents in that account and have a paleta for fifty cents! By far the best value and best tasting horchata pop I’ve had. None of the flavors are muted by the fact that this treat is served frozen and I was astounded that it tasted a ton better than many of the drinks I’d been served around town! Do it. If you just must, bring some kids as an excuse to come. But really, just indulge. You’re worth two quarters.

Holy mother of God, horchata paleta you have changed my life. I dropped by with my kid niece late in the afternoon to let her have a special treat for doing well in school, but I didn’t know these paletas would be so freaking awesome that it’d be a special treat for me too! The only remotely similar paleta experience I’ve had was in San Diego at Viva Pops where they sell hipstery organic flavors like peach ginger and lavender lemonade for $ 2.50 a pop. Ridiculous price for frozen juice on a stick, even if it is insanely delicious. But El Paraiso sells for a mere $ 0.50 a pop, is on par in flavor and they have really cool Mexican flavors like mango chile and Lucas. The real kicker is that price tag though, such an amazing deal! I didn’t even know they were $ 0.50 upon entering the little store because the lady working the counter gave me the wrong change out of a $ 20. I thought I paid $ 6.50 for three pops and from my experience at Viva Pops I thought that was fair and walked out of the store thinking nothing of it. The lady came running out after me in the parking lot with $ 5 in hand telling me she had miscounted the change. Wait, what? It was only $ 1.50 for all 3? She’s got to be crazy and is giving me back extra change. I checked Unilocal on the way home to confirm and it was like all my food worldly dreams came true. It was not some freak chance that she undercharged me, but they are always $ 0.50! Cheap, madly delicious ice cream. My inner fat kid’s fantasy: a reality! I’d like to give kudos to the lady for not jipping me and pocketing the change, that alone deserves all 5 stars. As for the flavors, I had the horchata, which was the perfect blend of milky cinnamony awesome that is the horchata drink. So freaking good. Definitely going back for that. Chocolate was standard, my niece had that one and from the look of her chocolate covered face, hands and shirt when we got home, she seemed to love it. Also got the watermelon which was like eating straight up ice cold, crisp, subtly sweet watermelon. Can’t wait to go back and have a try at the rest of the flavors.

Since I’ve discovered this place, I’ve been obsessed. When I go, it’s hard to not buy like 100 and stock up my freezer in case everyone else discovers these things and there’s a paleta shortage lol! I think I’ve tried every flavor and so far pickle is the only flavor I would not try again. Imagine a jar of pickle juice frozen placed on a stick! It’s awesome and so gross at the same time haha. When my 13 year old brother and I saw it, we just had to try it. My favorites so far are the pecan, coffee, coconut, and piña colada paletas. At $ 0.50 each, and even cheaper if you buy in bulk, it’s a great bargain!

Located on the outskirts of San Antonio downtown and worth a summertime jaunt. It’s a tiny place with a self-serve setup of coolers and baskets for choosing your menagerie of pops. Dill pickle, orchata, chile con piña, cappuccino, limon — all great and interesting. Yes, I said dill pickle. Even salty and tastes like a Mt Olive pickle. So fun. Duuuuude. $ 0.50 a pop!!! Yeah. There was much rejoicing throughout the land.

Two words: Coconut Paleta. As much as I love traditional ice cream and froyo, I’d choose fruit paletas over them any day. They’re inexpensive, tasty, and make for a perfect frozen treat in San Antonio.

This place is going to get me through the Texas summer. Price is 50 cents a pop or less depending on how much you buy, and more than twenty different flavors are available. Grab a pan and choose your favorites(mine include banana, mango, coconut, and strawberry-all creamy, dreamy flavors)! You can also buy dry ice for packing. Plenty of parking, friendly employees, amazing ice cream, cheap prices… I’m in love.

Heard about this from a recent Unilocal email and stopped by that afternoon. For $ 2 I came away with two pecan and two chocolate bars that are delicious. I started with pecan and was totally satisfied. Later I figured I couldn’t be more impressed with the chocolate but I was surprised! It’s like frozen chocolate milk! Worth the 50 cents! I know where I’ll be stopping by all summer!

Looks like it’s dessert week for me and what dessert week would be complete without a review of El Paraiso??? We seriously love this place. My 3-year old demands to go here at least twice a week and if she only knew her mother and I wish she demanded 5 times a week we would have a 3-year old with early onset diabetes on our hands! In all seriousness, this is a great bang for your buck in the dessert arena. As an added bonus, it is a real neighborhood joint and the service is friendly. All in all, a great experience. My favorite paletas have been the coconut(wow), horchata(pure Mexican goodness here), and pecan(somehow just grinding up pecan and throwing it in a popsicle works). I have as well tried some of the other more daring options, namely pickle and lucas, and like lucas quite a bit. Not a fan of the pickle but I appreciate what they are doing. By the way, speaking of cheap, my wife, daughter, and I get in and out for under $ 2! Well worth the 15 minute drive if you ask me…
