Ok let start here. I usually don’t get tamales from anyone but this couple in corpus Christi for the past 6 years. I ran into a craving for tamales and noticed this place was the only place in action for the time that I knew of. So i said what the heck Bad reviews? well i will give it a shot. I hit the drive through after a 25 min drive and asked for 3 dozen, 2 dozen pork and one dozen chicken. I get them nice and hot and drive home. After I get home i open up the dozen and grab 5 tamales to munch on. its the first time eating them not having to throw them on the pan and heat. So i notice they are EXTREMELY greasy. Then I notice they are uneven. the masa is hit or miss, the fillings nonexistent or barley there. I was surprised. I have never seen them so poorly made from what Im used to. I buy them frozen from C town and defrost them and they were never this greasy or poorly prepared. I then tasted them and noticed the lack of flavor. They were not horrible, but they were not great either. I wont be going back to this place. I will continue the search for better ones. Until then I will try to enjoys the other 2 dozen. If you like grease, then go for it.

I’ve been searching for a delicious vegetarian tamale for so long! The search is now over. I love their vegetable tamales. It has corn, black beans, and cilantro. They are absolutely delicious, I’m just sad I waited until New Years Eve to buy some. I should have gotten some all holiday season long. I can’t wait until next Christmas, these are way better than any pork tamale I’ve had in the past.

Well, where should I begin? I remember you in my ol’ hood. You were a little store with a big heart and a lobby full of anxious people dying to strip off your corn husks and bite into your soft masa. There was an innocence to you. But now. You became some franchise and somewhere between Culebra and the deep north side you lost some of that charm. And yet your frijole and jalapeño style tamales always beckon me to you as if I were under your spell. At this location the service is good be it by drive-thru or in the lobby. Their tamales are not badly priced either. They come in pork, chicken and have some options for vegetarians too. You can buy them by the dozen or half a batch. They also mix and match tamales which is good. Which brings me to my next point. In the years I have noticed that it can be hit or miss here. Sometimes the sizes of their tamales can be big or rolled up fit to slip in a pen. There are other times that the tamales filling can be dry. Or in some cases not bountiful enough for our consumption. Sometimes the masa seems undercooked or even overcooked. Quite frankly you never know what to expect on a visit here. In the realm of tamale possibilities there are far superior ones than those you can have here. Ever go by Tellez Tamales Xmas or Thanksgiving season? But I like how they said you could be a small store while creating an identifiable brand. They are good tamales but not great, not like before.. And yet beyond those things I have a soft spot for this place. I like how it created a market for us to overindulge in the tamale for no particular reason other than to enjoy it. And a tamale spot that has mascots that rival the giant puffy taco from Henry’s can’t be all that bad!

If only the food fit the name of the place. Maybe once upon a time they were delicious but for several years now they just suck. I used to go here when hardly anyone sold tamales outside of the season, now thank God we have more choices ’cause I get a hankering for tamales in the middle of summer. Anyway, I’ve given them my last chance & they again came up short. The ones I got were overly greasy, lots of little fat pockets mixed in the over processed meat and the masa was unevenly spread on most of them. Plus the all important flavor just wasn’t there. I’m done.

Out of all the different tamales I’ve sampled from various tamale places(Bandera Molino, Rudy’s, Adelita’s, Tejas Barbacoa), the ones from Delicious are #1 on my list. The tamales are perfectly sized — small enough that you can eat several at a time, but with a good proportion of masa to filling in each one. They offer the traditional tamale fillings(pork, chicken, jalapeño, cheese, bean) & also offer some specials during the Thanksgiving/Christmas season. And they still use lard in their masa! It’s very easy to stop by their main Culebra location(the tamale factory location in San Antonio) and pickup several dozen hot tamales after work, or to dine in during lunch to have one of their lunch plate specials. You can even order ahead if you’re ordering several dozens tamales and have them ready for pickup the next day. They heat up great after being frozen — we vacuum seal the tamales and then re-heat them by boiling them in the vacuum bag.
