My grandparents took my brother and I here for dinner tonight. My grandparents are from the area and have been frequent customers since the new chef took over. The waitress treated us like family and made wonderful recommendations. We like to enjoy food and ordered most of the dishes to try. Everything was outstanding. The pork belly was incredibly tender. The fried oysters with the creamed corn were particularly special. Even the roast chicken was some of the best I have ever had. The scallops = perfection… like butter. The live music was lovely, a great jazz band. The trumpet player and the bass player are GREAT. HIGHLYRECOMMEND!!!

First visit today. Place was very charming. Not great for small children but very accomodating for us despite that we did bring children(ages 1, 6, and 12). Live music that was well performed and just the right volume. Waitress was fantastic and very attentive and did not rush us. Food was $$-$$$ but worth every cent. Kudos to the Chef!!! Original menu with a nice presentation. There is not a menu for children, but like I said above, this is not a place that I would recommend for children, especially children who cry a lot or are misbehaved. However, they will not turn away a family. I think this is better suited for date night or small group of friends wanting a personalized dinner and chitchat. Dress atire would be business casual to dressy. Overall I would rate this place as 5 stars!

This used to be our go-to luncheon restaurant when in the area — but the new chef apparently has other ideas. My husband was in with business associates last week, and he ordered his steak cooked medium. The waitress came back to the table and said that the chef would not cook that cut medium. It had to be rare or not at all. He doesn’t mind his beef rare, so he went with it, anticipating a delicious surprise. What he got was food poisoning. Sometimes, you should just give the customer what they ask for, chef. Don’t know if we’ll trust them again after a day spent at home close to the toilet! Blech!

first visit yesterday when a friend welcomed me to San Antonio with lunch here. She was initially disappointed to learn that a new chef had arrived and some of her favorite dishes were no longer on the menu. I had a delicious cup of thick, chunky, tasty tomato soup with a grilled Brie sandwich. Definitely worked for me big-time. She got the chicken salad with house-made chips and seemed to enjoy both. I will be back and am looking forward to trying dinner here!

We’ve eaten here a few times and have to say that the dinner menu was the most memorable. We went on a Thursday night and couldn’t decide what to order but went with the staff recommendation of appetizers: Brussel sprouts with apricots and mustard seeds in a honey glaze, fingerling potatoes topped with aioli and a friend egg, and tender quail with crispy skin, seasonal vegetables, and sweet cherry sauce. The quality of the ingredients was evident in each bite and the bright and playful presentation made the experience all the more enjoyable. After finishing off the appetizers and the main dish(roasted chicken) we had to try dessert and chose the panna cotta with stone fruit, coconut, and almonds. I can’t remember the last time I had a meal like that! To add to that, the server was very attentive as we were seated and served quickly. The best part of the experience was that the dishes were light yet satisfying and we were able to sample a wide variety of different flavors. Compliments to the chefs!

This was our go-to restaurant for our section at work whenever we would go out to lunch where I used to work. We would go at least twice a year. Everything I ever ordered was awesome! I particularly like that their croissants are a perfect medley of crispy, flaky, buttery goodness. Their muffuletta is wonderfully flavorful and fresh(though huge and definitely requires a to-go box). I also enjoy their lox and cream cheese bagel a great deal.

Disclaimers first, though we’ve enjoyed dining here before on several occasions, this review refers to my most recent experience that was a chef’s table wine pairing dinner, which for the amount($ 75++ including wines) has to be one of the best bargains in that category. All six courses(see photos) from chef John Carpenter were delightful, but if had to choose, the lamb and scallops would be my favorite. The panna-cotta desert with coconut was superb as well. The wine pairings(French and Spanish selections) were well suited to all the courses. Service(Brian and Cindy) was very attentive, and a great live music set from a piano player(Mr Martini) made this truly a memorable evening.

My boyfriend & I just decided to stop in. The atmosphere is super cozy & chic. The Staff: The staff is great. The waitress was very honest about was & wasn’t good on the menu, and made great recommendations. The Food The Greek food is not their specialty. I’d stay away from it, otherwise it’s all really good. The soup de jour was a lobster bisque. For awhile we went regularly just to see if it was served to the point where they now call us whenever they have it. Well worth it.

My family and I just had dinner tonight at Boardwalk Bistro and it was amazing! As someone who is a big Mediterranean food SNOB, Boardwalk Bistro more than satisfied my appetite! They really capture the Mediterranean taste in their dishes. I got the Lamb Tagine which comes with couscous and soft, warm pita bread and I believe it is served with a side of either tahini or some kind of yogurt that goes well with the lamb. The live band was great and it’s a very cozy restaurant. I will definitely be coming back and will recommend this restaurant to everyone!

I first visited Boardwalk Bistro with my girlfriend after missing reservations for an upscale restaurant downtown. We were left wandering around Broadway, and she suggested we try Boardwalk Bistro. I was very skeptical at first since it doesn’t look like much from the outside, calling itself a «Mediterranean» food restaurant. Let me first start off by saying that looks can be deceiving. I have absolutely no idea how this place can be considered a Mediterranean food restaurant. Most of the menu items are traditions from other cuisines. What the restaurant does serve, however, is incredible food. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Puffed Pastry, which was absolutely astonishing and the highlight of the evening. I ordered the Filet, and it was cooked to perfection. The cheesecake for desert was to die for! The cheese plate was above average, but not particularly a highlight. Overall, this restaurant was incredible surprise, and remains a gem in the community. We go back regularly for the excellent food, laudable service and weekly love music. Perfect dining experience for a romantic evening!

We followed the Jim Cullum Jazz Band here and really enjoyed the old 80’s hay day 09’er atmosphere hang out. The wine by the glass was good. We tried their version of the charcuterie plate and Spanish Paella. Unfortunately both were very bland and Lubyesque. Our first time here and unfortunately we were very disappointed.

I have had the Ruben several times and it is one the best in SA. For another $ 2.50 hot potato salad makes it better. Dessert today was not so great…$ 9.00 for a very small portion of dry Pistachio cake with little flavor. Service was OK, not much anticipation on the server’s part.

I went here with friends for restaurant week. Parking wasn’t too bad and the service and ambiance were average. I thought the price was decent for the portions and the meal. The Low Down on the food: Lobster and asparagus bisque: 5⁄5. Really tasty. I could taste the lobster. I guess it would’ve been nice if there were chunks of lobster, but still it tasted pretty good. Pork tenderloin stuffed with goat cheese and sun dried tomato: 2⁄5. The pork was dry and tasted more like a thick cheap slice of ham. The dish sounded so good on the menu and so I chose it even though I really only eat pork if it’s extra extra good or drenched in yummy sauce. There wasn’t much goat cheese and sundered tomato filling either. The veggies were bland, but the mashed potatoes were pretty good. Portion was also a bit small, but the dryness of the pork is what really killed the dish. New York Cheesecake with berries: 4⁄5. Really really good. Apparently it’s homemade. The cream sauce was also good. The portion however was pretty tiny and the slice of the cake pretty inconsistent. Overall the experience was pretty average and I’m not sure if I’d go here again. The dessert was pretty good, but there are many good restaurants in the area so it’s hard to say that I would choose it over something else.

Wonderful service from Keith. His suggestions — across wine, entrees, dessert pairs, and more — were great. The U10 scallops are the JAM and Wednesday is ½ off bottles under $ 40. #Score. The beer menu is slight, but it’s obviously geared toward the wine lover in your life. Bring ‘em here and get adventurous… the offerings are ample. #SommeliersInSanAntonio

This was hard for me to review. Some things were really good and others REALLY bad. So I’ll make it easy… The Good… The food is pretty awesome actually. The lobster bisque was phenomenal and the cake(though small) was kick ass. My waitress was awesome although I noticed other tables were not as fortunate with their servers. Tha Bad… They handed us the check before we were done. hmmmm… rushed much? I was in a dark little corner. near stacked up chairs and furniture. at lunchtime. The Ugly… The décor is awful. Ugly is an understatement.

Pros: Very good service, great for special occasions, delicious Mediterranean-inspired food, and live music by the likes of Ken Slavin and Jim Cullum. Cons: On my latest visit, it was very warm inside. My girlfriend and I were perspiring away at a corner table by the window. We could have used more air conditioning. Tips: Call ahead and reserve a table if you are going on a weekend night when there is live music. The place is small and can fill up. Owner Barbara Hunt and Executive Chef David Yokuty have a great thing going. I love the fact that the food and service here at Boardwalk Bistro is consistently good. This time I enjoyed and loved the pistachio-crusted Arctic char. The crispy crust was wonderful complimented by the sauce and briny capers. I love a dish that combines hardy, breaded, pan-fried fish with roasted potatoes! For dessert, I had the Belgian chocolate cake with Frangelico white chocolate sauce. The cake was fudgy, rich and perfectly sized. I was very pleased, as usual, with my dinner. Not only did I enjoy my dinner, but I had a wonderful time hearing local crooner Ken Slavin. Always entertaining, always delightful, Ken is my very favorite live performer in town. I like that Boardwalk Bistro offers Groupons to their restaurant. This seems to me to be a great way to get new, and younger, customers in the door, but I still see much of the same older, regular clientele. One final note: my girlfriend and I are regulars here. I wish that Boardwalk Bistro could have more vegetarian options. Though there are already three vegetarian entrees on the menu, my girlfriend has tried all three. I wish that there was one more vegetarian entrée choice that Chef Yokuty could periodically change in order to expand the vegetarian menu. Though I already respect Chef Yokuty’s abilities, I think that coming up with another vegetarian-friendly, vegetable-heavy entrée would be testament to his culinary skills.

Once upon a time, this was one of my favorite restaurants. They no longer offer any of their lunch offerings at dinner. While that’s disappointing, it’s understandable. Today, however, I called at noon to find out how long they’d be taking lunch order call ins. The gentleman on the phone told me 4pm. My wife called just after 3pm and was told they close at 3 and wouldn’t take our order. Oh well… we’ll just have to stop trying to force the issue. I just wish everyone there knew what time they closed so we could have made other plans. We sure will in the future.
