These girls are awesome. They are superheroines in my mind! This is San Antonio’s only flat roller derby team! You gotta look on their website for their schedule, and it’s cheaper to buy tickets in advance rather than at the door. Be sure to show up a bit early, since the best places to watch get taken up quickly. They blare loud music, and the girls throw bone crunching hits against each other. I like how the roller girls have names like«Mega Hurtz» or «Killer.» I don’t really get the rules and how they accumulate points, but who cares? They’re out there throwing elbows, and smashing into each other.

These girls are legit. I’m totally impressed. I was invited to check out a match(tickets are $ 14 at the door, but cheaper if you purchase tickets ahead of time) and just… WOW. And they totally kick a$$. Hard. So, you arrive at the match to find yourself in a time warped roller skating rink. We’re talking neon colors and black and white speckled carpet. But, you look up to find scantily-clad, beautiful women of pinup proportions ready to knock down the competition. There was booze-a-plenty, a rockin’ band, and some hilarious emcees. The crowd was packed and pumped, cheering on these local vixens. The rollergirls are ruthless and I couldn’t help but wish I were such a badass that I could try it someday. Or, at the very least, blow the whistle to start the match, as we all know I’m not a fighter…

*BIGAPPLAUSE* Jamie promised and she delivered — as well as the rest of the Alamo City Roller Girls!!! You guys more than definitely deserved the win and I’m happy to say that I was there to see it happen. The crowd was revved, the music was loud and the game was great! For those of you not familiar with roller derby or have only watched on tv, I encourage you to make it a point to come to a LIVE game. Especially where the ACRG is concerned — they rock!
