Decided to go here with kids before the Magik Theatre 7PM show on a Friday night. We arrive and(having only Unilocaled this place — not actually visited it in person prior to tonight) were rather surprised that no one was eating. But everyone was laughing and having a good time with their beers. We stand in line for 10 minutes to order — only to be told that the food is not being sold today, the guy behind the counter is the only one there, and the kitchen is closed. Go Figure on a Friday night? I am sad — all the othe reviews were so high — it seemed like we were in for a treat. Instead… we had air at Acapulco!

Like Brent L said, this is the perfect spot to enjoy the First Friday festivities and not get lost in the crowds. They have a fantastic selection of cheap beer and tasty TexMex comfort food. Texans love a good ice house atmosphere and Acapulco delivers! If you aren’t in the mood to eat, just come sit outside, enjoy the cold brews and people watch. Especially during First Friday this neighborhood lights up with characters. From Pub Runners passing by in costumes to local politicians, you’re sure to meet n greet and be entertained!

Unilocal doesn’t lie. Great food, great prices, it’s a million degrees out with 100 percent humidity and this is where you want to be: Outside, cool cars pulling up, the world walking by. Super friendly and yummy.

Ordered the bean and cheese tacos thinking they would be served on corn tortillas but were served on flour a little disappointed but they were still very tasty. Chips and salsa were excellent however, do not come with the meal, was not a big deal as the food is very inexpensive. Very laid back atmosphere, order at window and seating is outside.

Perfect any day they are open. This Ice house is situated in a perfect location. During First Fridays it is the perfect place to hang out with your friends at, see some classic cars and grab some tall boys. They have a little kitchen that serves up some big flavor! The owners are fun and don’t take any bull from any riff raff which makes this place an awesome low Key Ice House to Hang out at. From San Antonio Politicians to Barrio Princesses the Acapulco has it all!

Great Dive/Drive In taco place with a wide selection of beers and seats on the street. Perfect place for a very casual warm San Antonio night.

If you are looking for the perfect place to avoid the crowds and chill out on First Fridays, look no further. This little icehouse is situated on the northern edge of Southtown and is an awesome place for cheap beer and good home made food. They usually have a classic car show on First Fridays and if you go early enough you just might run into one of SA’s former mayors — I won’t say which one but I’ve seen him there once or twice. It’s a fun place to hang out and watch all the«interesting» people that are heading down to Southtown.

What a find!!! If you’re looking for some cheap, authentic Mexican food this is your place. I had carne asada tacos and chicken tacos both served on two corn tortillas garnished with onions and cilantro. They were not greasy at all, but were moist and flavorful. These really reminded me of Mexican street style tacos, not TexMex. My husband ordered a Torta and really liked it. Another plus– they take credit cards. The seating is all outdoors, so I’m wondering how often they close for bad weather. It sure was nice to sit outside and take in the sights and sounds of Southtown. I’ll definitely be back!

Awesome. I agree with Lola. Place has some unpretentious Tex-Mex food and ice cold cheap bears(they have tall boys!) The flautas and salsa are like Grandma would make(she actually cooks them in the back). And unlike the other south Alamo places, they actually appreciate if you come back. David(the owner) remembered us from the night before(1st Friday) and put free songs on the juke box for us. This place rocks and the food is just good home cooked food.(limited menu but who cares?)

I am touring with Carlos Santana and had a day off in San Antonio. Did the Riverwalk thing with some of my guys. Got balk to the hotel and asked about good local food. They recommended a hipster place down south on Alamo. Started south and saw a cool old car on a sign. My buddy said it was a muffler shop. As we got closer it turned out to be a great family run Mexican joint. we stopped in and had a couple of incredible tacos and very cold beers, preceded by home cooked chips and an incredible salsa. We finished that went down the street to the hipster joint, had to margaritas and went back to the drive in for dinner. Awesome!!!

When it’s open, this is my favorite neighborhood place to be sitting outside, listening to a good jukebox and kicking back some icy cold ones with friends. Very grateful this place has managed to survive the ever increasing gentrification of the area. It’s what we south Texans call an «icehouse», except they don’t sell toilet paper, candy or soap.
