Best Korean Food I’ve had in a long time. I’ll place it on my top 3 places to eat Korean food in Texas. I was stationed in Korea for 18 months and this is real deal.

I was wondering at all the bad reviews, but it all comes down to the service. Great food, and I’m not ashamed to go there at least once a week to satisfy my Korean food craving for super cheap and a military discount. Mr. Kim is great. However, it’s always slow. I also just had the experience of getting lectured by the hostess — I accidentally thought she meant right this way when I came in, as is usually the case in most restaurants(there were many empty tables), but I guess she wanted me to wait while she composed herself or whatever. Anyway, I threw her off by walking towards a table and she got worked up about it, and asked me not to do that again because it throws them off, she’s not used to it, and I need to wait for people to clear the tables. The table was clear, and I was just helping myself to a table to make things easier. Big mistake, I guess. Too bad I decided to come here on a day off to treat myself. Anyway, though the people are usually nice, I was just thrown off by the attitude I got today, on top of the fact that it’s always slow service, busy or not. I don’t pay money to get lectured on what my actions should be as a customer. I do plan on going back, but maybe not as much as before. It’s too bad, since my time here in San Angelo is limited. Bottom line, the Korean food is great and the sushi is nice, and the service is so-so. Just plan to be there for a long time, or plan ahead on lunches.

Food was great. The wait for the food was long and it was because the waiter forgot to put in our order…

Hoping that tonight was just fluke and that the next time I try this place the sushi is much better. I really wanted to like it… because the menu looked very good… but I was super disappointed with my sushi order. There was way too much rice in the rolls and the spicy mayo was basically just mayo. I’ll try this place again, but maybe just the Korean food

Went there last night for our anniversary dinner and we enjoyed the food, what we did not enjoy was the service. Our waiter forgot our drinks and I had to remind him of those but it still took him 5 minutes to bring them to us. When our main course was served I got mine, but my wife didn’t. Shortly after I got my food I was asked if we wanted our check, clearly this waiter didn’t realize my wife still didn’t have her food and I had to remind him of that. By time she got her food and took a few bites she was ready to leave. I have never had such terrible service from Nakamura before until now. What happened?

If you’d like to go out to eat only to wait forever to be served, then this is the place for you. Decent food, but definitely not worth the wait. We actually got our appetizer after we were done with our main order. Never offered refills once. Will never come back here.

Great sushi and amazing squid(ojingo bulgogi). Very surprised to find a place like this in San Angelo. Thanks for making the squid extra spicy. Worth the sweat. Delicious.

The greatest sushi experience in Texas. Mr. Kim is the owner and master sushi chef. The rolls here are amazing. If you are in San Angelo and love sushi look no further this is the place for you. I am always welcomed and Mr. Kim is a great host.

New to San Angelo. Only here for a couple of months and missing some decent sushi from home. Went to Nakamura’s on a recommendation from a friend. The restaurant is small but has the décor of a typical sushi place. Sat at the bar by myself and was a little concerned that it was sticky. It was a Friday night and it wasn’t packed but the chefs seemed short handed. I ordered two rolls and some nigiri. And then I waited. And waited. A gentleman sat down next to me and started chatting up the chefs. Then they started doing shots of sake together. Apparently if you’re a regular and you give the chefs booze you’re more important than new customers. They made his right away. 55 minutes later I was informed by the waitress that the chef was going to start on my roll soon. Awesome. Sitting here contemplating walking out. Full tables that came in after me are getting their food. I waited. The rolls were good but not great. The rainbow roll comes with snapper instead of yellowtail like most places I’ve been to. Not a huge deal I’m just not a fan of snapper. I ordered the butterfly and it was similar to the rainbow. Had great presentation though. The fish was good quality. I finished my beer and ordered a water. I had to track down the waitress and ask for it again after I received my food. Then it sat empty after I finished it and ate the spicy portion of my food. She ignored me after she got sat a large table of what also seemed like regulars. I also had to go grab the necessary utensils off of another table. Food gets a 4 Service gets a zero Averages to a 2 I guess you can treat new people like that when you’re the only game in town. They had the opportunity to make a great customer that would probably come in every weekend, however, I wouldn’t want to become a regular and force new comers to wait longer. Your regulars will wait but you never get a second chance at a first impression. I’ll just have to suffer through the rest of my stay in San Angelo sushi free. As I write this I have now been waiting for about 20 minutes for my check eating ice…

This is our go-to restaurant, we always come here. It is VERY clean and the food is AWESOME. My favorite is the Crazy Girl sushi roll, and also the Bulgogi box. The restaurant has recently been updated with great colors and lighting which creates a delightful atmosphere. The owners and staff are GREAT and very friendly. The owner(Mr. Kim) always greets you when you first come in(unless he is very busy). All-in-all just a wonderful place to sit and relax with your family or spouse.

I have very mixed experiences about this place. I guess for San Angelo, this place is pretty decent. Compared to the rest of the US, it’s mediocre. I would say 2.5 stars to 3 stars on a good day with good service. You would think the Korean food would be better than the sushi since it is Korean owned. It unfortunately was not. I was so upset and underwhelmed by my experience that I had to make my own bulgogi and japchae. The bibimbap looked promising, but lacked flavor. The sushi is just okay; it’s hit or miss. One time they used old shrimp and my tummy wasn’t too happy the rest of the day or the next morning. Since they typically sauce their rolls to death, I remembered on my last visit to ask them to hold the sauce. That’s when I was able to taste that the ingredients were not fresh(I’m aware that there isn’t fresh seafood, but what I mean when I’m using it in this context is that they must have left it sitting out too long or used seafood that has been thawed out the night before and didn’t handle it properly… something along those lines.) because I had tummy aches and unusual b.m. the next day. I have not returned since.

After having visited Nakamura’s in San Angelo, then living in Honolulu(with numerous fresh authentic sushi options) & then coming back to San Angelo… I still love Nakamura. I have never visited a restaurant where the owner was so attentive and friendly. Mr. Kim is the best! The sushi is always exceptionally creative & tasty & all the sushi chefs are very accommodating & skilled. The Hawaiian style poke tastes as good as you’d get in Hawaii & it’s the only place that serves fresh kimchi(cucumber or cabbage). They’ve recently remodeled the interior & the atmosphere is contemporary & social. One of my favorite places to eat in San Angelo.

Very nice place with great sushi. It was very inviting with the owner and chef saying hello as soon as you walk through the door. Very respectful staff. Will be going again!

I’m writing this review as a half-Korean who has lived in Korea, frequently eating Korean food either at my mom’s house or in Korea town in Denver. The food was just okay… I got the dol sot bibimbap(mixed rice bowl with vegetables in a hot stone pot). The rice was dry and seemed a day or so old. The hot stone pot wasn’t as hot as it should have been. I will give this place another shot, but I wasn’t terribly impressed(the flies didn’t help my impression either). Perhaps the bulgogi will be better. My husband did order sushi and thought it was pretty good. I was definitely surprised to find Korean food in San Angelo though. Last note — I have a 10 month old and had to change her diaper, but there were no changing tables in the restrooms. That would be helpful if you wanted to be a family-friendly restaurant. Actual last note — I find it crazy that they charge for their kimchi. Any Korean restaurant I’ve ever been to brings kimchi and MANY other side dishes as part of your meal.

This place has good daily sushi specials and it is the only place I trust in town for sashimi grade sushi. I also like the bento box w/teriyaki chicken or beef bulgogi. If you want to get crazy — try the tempura Oreos with ice cream for dessert — but LETMEWARNYOU: you’ll never be able to go there and not order them again! Scrumptious! They don’t have filtered water, but they do sell bottled water. Also, be prepared to wait on the weekend, they don’t have too many tables and the place fills up quickly. The only reason I don’t go here more often is that I leave with the smell of the place on my clothes, in my hair — everywhere. It’s kinda grossing me out. So I try to limit how often I go since I have to come back and take a shower and wash my purse and my son’s car seat cover every time we go.

Korean Fare and Sushi in San Angelo? SIGNMEUP!!! Look I know some may complain how they have had better somewhere else but if you are in town and want some good sushi, good korean, and some yummy gyoza this is a wonderful place to come. Everything I have had here has been stellar and the staff is awesome. Pacing is a bit slow but they make the sushi and food cooked to order so it’s worth the wait. Bulgogi is wonderful, Yaki ManDoo is just a big order of gyoza with mandoo sauce but is really good. All the sushi I have tried has been spectacular given where I am and the chefs seem to know what they are doing. If you are in San Angelo and want sushi or korean come here you will not be disappointed.

I was in town and looking for sushi, found this little place by GPS coincidence. I was thrown off at first becuase from the outside it looked very dark, but once inside it tunrs out the windows were all blocked out and it was very bright and lively. The place was a full mix of family, date nights, and college co-eds. Decided to sit at the sushi bar and take in the handiwork and bizarre Korean on the tube. The hoster(Mike) was also my waiter. He gave me great suggestions as I was on an expense budget. I wanted to get full and he suggested the largest roll I’d ever seen as well as a sampler roll with several different types of raw fish on top. Long and the short of it, turns out this place had gotten voted best sushi for San Angelo several times and thanks to my waiter’s suggestions I left full and satiafied. Dinner was 25 in total and although I’ve definitely had better sushi in other parts, beggars can’t be choosers when in San Angelo. I was impressed by the level of attention paid to the rolls and my waiter Mike made the meal very enjoyable, checking in on me several times and even offering a specialty desert if I finished my main course. I had to pass unfortunately as the meal was definitely a belt loosener. I can honestly say I’ve never been so full off of just(2) rolls in all my travels. If you have time, stop by, sit at the sushi bar and ask for Mike(pony tailed crowd pleaser.)

I come here for the Korean food, not the sushi. So I won’t review their sushi. The Korean dishes are pretty good, not bad at all. I tried their pork ribs(kalbi) and on another occasion tried their pork bulgogi. Both were good. Their kimshi is homemade and has a good spice to it. Have I had better, yes. By that I mean that I grew up in the koreatown area of Los Angeles, so I know a thing or two about Korean food. I can honestly say that this place is worth the visit. It satisfies my Korean cuisine cravings when in San Angelo.

Not bad. Had miso, cucumber salad, gyoza and the playboy roll. Cucumber salad was the best part. The gyoza was a little oversteamed and the playboy was just enough to satisfy my craving…
