STAYAWAY! Will never buy a piece of Balhaus furniture again. Had my chaise rebuilt because apparently the furniture maker doesn’t know how to use a level or a square. Received the 2nd chaise and guess what? The arm is still crooked! Had cushions replaced because after 1 month all you feel are springs and plastic pieces. Received our second set of cushions and guess what? The same. Awful. Extremely poor quality, in terms of both craftsmanship and customer service. STAYAWAY!

Purchased a Bauhaus sofa and oversize chair 6 months ago with a ticketed price of $ 1100 and $ 800 respectively. After about 3 months I started having concerns as to the quality — the fabric appeared to be stretching out, the chair«creaked» on the inside of the right arm, the sofa cushions appeared to be sagging and the fill in the seat cushions was beginning to bunch towards the front of the seat. Mind you, there are only two of us in the house — no kids, no pets. Well two weeks ago while sitting in the chair there was a loud«thunk» and I dropped down about an inch — several minutes later another«thunk» and again the seat dropped down. We looked under the cushion and could feel that one side appeared lower and soft. The next day looked under the chair only to find something hanging down to the carpet. Called the Furniture store I purchased it from and was told there was no warranty. Took the chair in to them and they found that two springs were broken and one wood brace had completely cracked in half — the owner of the store said that it was a stress fracture due to an error in construction. Well to make a long story short they contacted Bauhaus and were told by Bauhaus there was nothing they could do — come on — six months and insinuated that I had done something to cause all of these problems. Mind you, I am a small woman and am the only one who sits in the chair and maybe 3 hours a day in the evening. I am now having problem with the dealer that I purchased from as Bauhaus will do absolutely nothing — all that the dealer will do is add some fill to the cushions and they do have another identical chair in their warehouse to replace the 6 month old broken chair. They will not stand behind any thing else that may go wrong. DONOTPURCHASEBAUHAUSFURNITURE!!! THEYWILLNOTSTANDBEHINDTHEIRPRODUCTSANDANYFURNITUREDEALERSHOULDAVOIDTHEMALSO!

A few months ago, I ordered a Bauhaus Cocktail Ottoman. The first time it came in, it was in the wrong fabric and color(though the label listed the correct fabric and color). We sent it back and got a corrected piece recently. We were excited to finally have our ottoman — until we opened the box. The piece itself was not of the quality expected, especially given the price. I could have bought two ottomans for what I paid for one, and I assumed that it would be a quality product. Right out of the box the piece had scratches, fingerprints in the finish, and places where the finish had rubbed off(especially on the corners). I expected more from Bauhaus — especially since they’re associated with La-Z-Boy, which I’ve always considered to be a quality company. I am very disappointed.

I will never buy a Bauhaus piece of furniture again. Here’s why: We bought a sofa two years ago for a room that sees light use. Two weeks ago we noticed a split in the fabric along the front seam in one of the seat cushions. Furniture store said our warranty expired but recommended an upholsterer repairman who came, fixed split(although you can still see it’s been mended) for $ 65. He said the fault was not ours or the fabric’s, but Bauhaus’s since the factory left absolutely no seam allowance in that spot. So when someone sat on cushion, the tear was inevitable because there was no give. The problem, he said, a «factory defect” – and so wrote on our receipt. We contacted Bauhuas to see if they would help us out in any way(paying the cost of repair – or even part of it) and/or even acknowledging they had a problem. Bauhaus said our fabric warranty expired – it lasts only a year!!!(a crazy policy for a consumer item that you buy expecting to last many years). After we pressed them saying it was their fault, Bauhaus said it would«consider» our claim though if we sent in a long list of items(original receipt, label on couch, picture of problem, the repairman’s receipt, etc.). We complied and Bauhaus promptly replied – within 24 hours – so promptly that we suspect the decision was made long before we went to the trouble to file our complaint, especially since Bauhaus told us exactly what it said before – our fabric warranty expired so no help for us. Morale of story: Know the warranty limitations and beware of any company that won’t stand behind what is supposed a long-used product for more than a fraction of its use. And beware of a company that is so cheap, it won’t use enough material to make the product correctly in the first place. Caveat Emptor.

We like the furniture and fabric easy to clean. But less than 2 years later the sofa broke. It is lightly used and should not have broke. Bauhaus warranty wont cover it because we moved from the original residence of purchase. Stay away from this junk!

Wow, is all I have to say about this company. I didn’t know places like this still existed. After searching endless amounts of furniture stores looking for a sofa chair for my living room I finally found one that I liked at some store in Lincoln Park. It wasn’t too bulky looking, didn’t look like anything either grandma or a trendy gay couple from SOHO would own so I bought it. It was about 4 – 500 dollars and had a nice suede look(although it’s a microfiber which is really just a fancy name for recycled coke bottles) and it was made in the US and I thought that would be the end of it. A couple years go by and I take in a shelter pitbull puppy and end up adopting it. Let’s just say that although the build quality on the chair was good, it certainly isn’t pitbull proof. The new puppy hated this chair cushion with a passion and would attack it like it just stole his last treat every time I left the room. After many attempts the chair succumbed to the pitbull advances and was ruthlessly slaughtered and its entrails were scattered from one end of the living room to the other. I assumed that this was it for the defenseless chair and that this puppy had just cost me another $ 500(just after his $ 500 bladder infection) but after considering pimping him out on the streets to pay me back, I decided to try to track down the manufacturer and see if they could send me another cushion. I called to their plant in Mississippi and explained my plight and they said they that although they obviously didn’t just stock chair cushions and covers, they would see if they still stocked the same fabric from which my chair was made. After looking up the product number, she said they had a whole roll of the material and that if I just sent them a check for $ 57 dollars they would sew me up a new one along with the cushion. She said that I would have to wait a few days after they received the check so it would have time to clear and once it did they would get to work on it and that it would probably take them two weeks or so. I just sent them a check with my shipping address, no reference code, no product description, no purchase order request form nothing, just the conversation I had with the customer service rep and the check and a few weeks later my cushion and cover arrived and its exactly the same color, style and everything. They even called me back to make sure I received it. This is why buying American is important. If I would have bought some shit made in China the manufacturer would have already discontinued the fabric, they would have outsourced it to a different factory, I would have never been able to actually talk to a human who speaks English and I would have simply had to have replaced the chair and even if all that wasn’t the case, there’s no way they would have crossed the ocean in order to get me a replacement and even if they did, it would have been screwed up somehow. Next time I buy a big piece of furniture I am going to make sure I try to find a Bauhaus product. It wasn’t like I was dealing with a corporation(even though they have been bought by Lazy-Boy) it was like calling up your grandma and asking her to knit you a new blanket.
