Enjoyed the music and dancing but holy SHIT!!! The bar tenders are rude, unaccommodating, smug jerks! I’ve never encountered that many shitty employees in one spot! Not to mention shitty service. It took 30+ min to get salad! And over an hour to get fries!

Awesome spot accepts all backgrounds super fun. Only gripe they don’t give free soda to designated drivers. Come on peeps… Thx for the comment from the establishment just so you know places around town do offer free drinks to the dd, keys on main, the garage, lucky’s etc. But I understand your position.

The owner lets cops roam freely here. While I dont have anything to hide, I also dont like cops, especially West Valley Cops who make me more uncomfortable than most drunk assholes. I was there last night and 2 or 3 cops were walking through the crowd all night long, I realize that maybe this is a precautionary measure because Ill admit there are a bunch of big drunk douche-bag dudes there, you know, the affliction wearing guys. that can get a bit rowdy, however I feel like in house bouncers should be able to control these guys without cops hanging out in the crowd.

Hang on to your drink. The a-hole security guards will throw away your drink while you’re out dancing. Servers don’t care and won’t replenish your drink if it happens. I won’t let a glass leave my hand if I ever go back. Also, come 1 am the security guards go around telling you to finish your drink and then«get the f out». Rude nasty service. Stay away! On Friday nights they claim to have bikini bull riding, but that never happens. If you like country music and bad service this is the place for you!

This bar is pretty fun! I am not the country type(I don’t listen to the music at all) but, it’s always a good time when I go there. The staff is really nice and they make delicious drinks! The atmosphere is really great, too! I have never had a bad vibe from either the workers or the other customers! The dance floor is nice and big and everyone seems to be in the best of moods! Their restrooms are a little dirty but… It’s a bar. It’s to be expected. And, I’ve also seen worse. They could use a little maintenance, though. Their sinks have giant holes in them like someone punched a hole inside of them. It’s also really, really hot in there too! I have to head outside for a whole to cool down, but maybe some people like that? I don’t know. It’s a fun place to go to! If you’re country, if you’re not, you’ll still have a great time!

We had a blast great drinks reasonably priced friendly staff no one looking to start problems. Some meat heads but they kept to themselves. Music is not my taste but the crowd was loving it. Mechanical bull was super fun. Overall great atmosphere 4 stars cuz bathroom kinda sucked only one sink?

The place has a fun vibe. The dance floor is huge, and people fill it pretty well. Lots of line dancing and swing. There’s even a mechanical bull. We were having a great time at the Josh Gracin show until some real drunk idiots started grinding all over each other right in front of us. They kept bumping into us and almost spilled their beer on us. We got tired of that pretty fast, so we just took off and went somewhere else.(I was kinda hoping the security guy would toss them off the dance floor, since they all had beers, but he was nowhere in sight after the band started playing.) But yeah… not real impressed by the clientele.

I am so glad I went with my instinct! Love country music and was looking for a great place to cut a rug. I read the reviews and found that most people that seemed to value a good time and a great atmosphere rated the Westerner high. So I gave it a shot. Some of the reviews indicated that there are some guys getting drunk and hitting on the ladies. I think that is why its a bar and not a church. just sayin. If your not okay with people drinking and potentially hitting on you, you might want to hit a club in Provo Utah. Loved the service, LOVED the dancing and music. We even had a great little snack platter with yummy grub to satisfy our hunger after all the dancing. Great live music the night we went. I have heard the renovations have only improved the feel of the place. I cannot wait to go back! Yee Haw!

The Westerner is a proper country western bar complete with a mechanical bull, a large floor for line dancing, and a lot of testosterone driven males looking to hoot n’ holler it up on a weekend night. I had heard many people sing the praises of the Westerner for years but I had yet to visit myself. When my friend had her bday there over the weekend, I finally had the chance to see all the sights. My first introduction to the Westerner was a young lady in cut off shorts. Her female friend exclaimed, «They aren’t short enough unless I can see the pockets!» I could practically see her baby making bits, so I think she passes the shortness test. My second introduction was the bouncer who quickly asked if I had any concealed weapons. He also checked the boots of every red-blooded American male walking through the door just incase someone had a knife tucked into their shoe. I thought this was a little bit curious as I’ve never received such a pat down even in the sketchiest of bars in major cities throughout the US, but hey safety first. We spent the evening at two large tables and for the most part it was a pretty enjoyable night. There is A LOT of people watching to be had at the Westerner. Folks like to get their line dancing on in very sexy ways regardless of their age or body type. I’m pretty sure if you wanted to get laid and so long as you know how to tap your cowboy boots, this would be the place to do it. I should also mention the staff is very friendly and seem to be on top of their sh*t. Plus, where else can you get a test tube shot while listing to boot scoot n’ boogie? All in all the Westerner is a pretty good bar. But, and this is a big but, the major reason for my three star review is the air of potential danger I felt all evening. The staff and the bar do a really good job of keeping things order, but that bar had a lot of bulky, beer fueled dudes who all looked like they wanted a reason to prove they have the correct genitalia. I don’t think anyone in the crowd would start something unprovoked but I would think twice before saying anything that could be misconstrued by a guy who is trolling for a fight. I felt a bit validated in my uneasiness when we left for the evening and saw 4 cops surrounding a guy handcuffed and on the ground. I wouldn’t let this stop you from visiting the Westerner but I would say to make sure you don’t accidentally start a crazy bar fight by unintentionally giving someone the evil eye.

If you like country music, line dancing and mechanical bull riding, the Westerner is the place for you. Make sure you put on your cowboy boots, plaid shirt and cowboy hat or you’re going to stand out… especially on a busy Friday or Saturday night. If there was a concert earlier in the evening like there was when I went, be ready to cough up a $ 9 cover charge rather than $ 5. Is there a promoter or VIP list I can get on next time? I just think it’s silly to pay to party in my hometown of West Valley, but you do what you gotta do. Bar service is much better than trying to flag down one of the waitresses at this place. It seems like the girls are more concerned with talking to their friends and fetching drinks for regulars than asking if I needed anything, but whatevs. Maybe I’ll hit up this place during the week when its less busy. Word is they offer free line dancing and partner lessons… ooh, and karaōke.

First time I have been to a bar in 7 years. I use to go all the time in my younger days. I was surprised when I walked in. It is clean, the staff was very friendly, and the beer was ICE cold. It was 5.25 for a stein of beer. Seemed kinda steep, but then again I don’t go to bars. So maybe that is a good price. Our server usually had our drinks with in five minutes of ordering. I will go here again if I’m invited out there from friends.

Good music, attentive bartenders. Don’t forget to close out your tab on a Saturday, couldn’t get drivers license and cc back til Wednesday so I couldn’t go vote. Haa the mechanical bull up and running and free pool. 10 bucks for a pack of smokes ugh but had a fun time

This is the place i come when i want a night out. I used to come EVERY friday for ladies night. I NEVER leave with out riding the bull. Now that i have a beautiful baby i dont get out very often. But when i do this is where you will find me. I’ve introduced several co-workers and friends to this place. Even a few friends who don’t like country music. people of all sorts can come here and have a good time. They have several pool tables and a karaōke room. They also have a patio outside with a few fire pits where you can smoke. My favorite part is of coarse the dance floor where you can find a good majority of the people doing line dances.

3.5 stars — thus far. First off I’ve never gone on a busy night. I prefer bars during quiet times. Makes it easier to feel out the place and the staff. I go on Wednesdays prior to doing stand up at Wiseguys. The beer is cheap, mixed drinks are a bit pricier. And it’s relatively slow. You have just a few older couples dancing. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I’ll sit outside and smoke on the patio whilst preparing for stand up and they always turn down the music for me. I feel bad for the bar tenders seeing how bad people tip there so hook them up. If they ever seem inauspicious you can probably blame how the patrons are treating them. I do want to go on a weekend night and ride their mechanical bull… I’ll probably suck, but it looks fun. Last night I realized that this place serves food and I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the«Honky tonk burger», it was a decent burger for bar food. The patty was juicy and not all dried out. It was topped with cheese, bacon, onion rings and BBQ sauce. It was also served with a side of fries, which were decent too. In fact one sounds good right now… I’ll be trying more of their food.

This is a terrible bar to go to. I have had several friends have problems with the staff and having their card stolen however this is the first time that i had first hand experience. My card was stolen by a man and he managed to make 7 different transactions with the same bartender. Clearly this bar does not check ID’s or they would have noticed that the name on the card is a woman’s name. I do not have a name that can be used for both sexes. I have resolved the issue with my credit card company however I warn all people to avoid this bar at all times.

Not much of a true country crowd but that is fine with me. Good servers, mechanical bullriding and decent food. Large dance floor but not into the whole line dancing thing. Is it me or do most linedancers have very little rhythm? It would be nice if they mixed it up a bit. Other than that not a bad hangout to relax and have a beer.

I must also start my review with a disclaimer that I’m not a big fan of country music(subject to exceptions since I’m from Texas), but I must admit that I had a good time. The crowd is eclectic and energetic, it’s a great place to have fun and let loose with your friends without worrying about being sexy and cool. This was my first venture here but others in my group said that it has been remodeled for the better. The place is one enormous room with bars tucked along the sides and near the entrance. Ample table and booth seating surround a large dance floor, with a stage taking up the entire west end. We went here to support a friend’s friend who was performing that night(Jon Pardi). It was a fun show but there were quiet a few technical issues with the P.A. system, and ultimately the instruments were fuzzy and muddled. Kudos to the staff though, from security to the bartenders, everything was smooth and efficient and went far faster than anticipated. I think I’ll be back.

What a fun bar to go to! We usually fill a car or truck with our girls-night group and head down, it’s super fun for every personality we bring! Good drinks, fun and weird contests, huge dance floor, cool and mellow tables to chill out at and a seperate karaōke room. Although I thought the song-menu was a tad stale, it seemed pretty low pressure to go in there and sing. Enjoy and wear your boots and hat! Embrace your inner cowboy/girl! Ya’ll come back now, hear?! The parking kinda sucks, so go early

Came here after going to the Eric Church concert. The place is much bigger than I imagined it would be. We heard really good things about this place from friends and other reviews, so we were excited to find a table in the back by the bar as soon as we walked in. There are multiple bars, pool tables, and of course the mechanical bull. Plus live band, huge dance floor, and some kind of private room. I think it was for smokers, but by then I was a little tipsy. Anyways, I had so much fun, the bad was awesome, and I rode that bull so much that my legs hurt like crazy in the morning. This place is by far one of the funnest bars I have ever been to. Even for people that are not that into country music it is a great time.

I came here to see Jamie O’Neal last night. At $ 7, it was the cheapest concert I’ve been to in a long time, but alas, 2001 is long over and poor Jamie’s best songwriting days might be behind her. As for The Westerner, it was definitely an interesting experience. First of all, my stein of Shock Top did NOT come cheaply. At $ 6.75, I decided it would be more economical to switch to my old standby, Pabst Blue Ribbon. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when Salt Lake’s premier western bar did not carry PBR. So Bud Light it was. One thing I did enjoy was that a cocktail waitress continually circulated to sell us test tube shots. The novelty never seemed to wear off! Another point for the win column goes to the mechanical bull that resides at The Westerner seven days a week! Or so I thought. Did you know that cultural mores dictate that if you’re female and want to ride the mechanical bull you are obligated to be seductive about it? I left my bikini at home, dammit. Another time, I guess. There is a LOT of line dancing happening here. If you’re into that kind of thing, The Westerner is your weekend destination for The Boot Scootin’ Boogie and all manner of other dances. If you think you MIGHT be into line dancing, The Westerner even offers classes throughout the week so you can keep up on the weekends. Unfortunately, I am morally opposed to line dancing, and so this didn’t really do it for me. Mostly I was just mad that you aren’t allowed to bring drinks on the floor. This is a stridently enforced rule, and if you even consider breaking it, you will be rushed by one of several burly bouncers that are abundantly present throughout the club. Something that I was very impressed by was the karaōke room. It’s sound proof, and seems to always be open. I thought this was a genius way of catering to a variety of bar interests. If few of your friends want to line dance, but almost everyone else wants to karaōke, and the only thing you can all agree on is that everyone wants to get drunk(and wear sparkly jeans), The Westerner can meet your entire party’s expectations in one fell swoop. Again, it’s brilliant! The only snag happened at the end of the evening, when nobody seemed to be able to locate my card to close the tab. It took about 20 minutes for the employees to track down which waitress and bar had my debit card and ID. Whatever. Also, the parking lot is vast, muddy, and terrifying. It looks like it would be at home in the opening scenes of an episode of SVU. In all, this was a pretty fun evening out. If you haven’t been to The Westerner you should probably go, if only just to spice up your life a little bit.

Ah, so this is where all of the westerners of Utah go to with their boots, buttoned shirts, faded levi pants, and cowboy hats. Although I am a hardcore city slicker, I actually liked going here. It’s fun if you have some friends that like country music and will show you a thing or two of how to do a proper hoedown. It’s harder than it looks and with such a large dance floor you can literally go all over the place. If that doesn’t sound like fun, then play some pool at their many pool tables, mount and show the free mechanical bull who’s boss, and eat and drink at one of their many, many tables. Anyways, it’s a pretty good time if you have good company. But yes, beware, especially if you’re a lady. The guys are pretty aggressive here. It may be the liquor talking so carry some mace just in case.
