Really small but very nice and convenient if you are living down town. We purchase sod here which after a few months died so they replaced some for us. So far the grass is looking better than it ever had before. Lets hope it stays that way.

We were mislead by the staff to purchase wrong plants for wrong situation. Very disappointing as we have had good experiences here before… They sold me Rocky Mt. Maples(2) for my very hot south facing front yard; they said they’d be great there. So when they scorched in a few days I did my own research, only to find this tree is a creek-bed, shade loving tree. No reputable source I could find recommend planting it in the valley, as it is extremely heat intolerant. What an expensive and disappointing venture for us; I will never shop here again! I’d have been better off at Home Depot doing my own research compared to shopping here and paying for bad information. Too bad, wanted to love it.

I wanted to love this place. The location is amazing, and I like to support local small business. Unfortunately, when I went the plant selection was meager, as was the apparent health of the plants. I was also looking for some reed or bamboo fencing, which they didn’t have and couldn’t order because it wasn’t cost effective for them. Nor could(or would) they suggest a place that might carry or be able to order such fencing. I went to the garden department at the Smith’s Marketplace about a block away from here and found better plants, the decorative fencing I was looking for, and employees who seemed happy to assist me. Wish I could have found all, or at least some, of this at Western – quite disappointed.

The employees really understand plants here. Unlike the Home Depots and Lowes of the world, many of the employees at Western Gardens understand what kind of plants will grow well and where, what time you should plant, and what you need to do to be successful. There is a huge variety of vegetables, fruit trees, shade trees, annuals, perennials and shrubs, just about anything that grows well in our climate they sell. Most importantly, they water meticulously. I’ve had too many experiences at places like Home Depot with plants that look great when you buy them but their roots are dry as a bone and they’ll be wilting if not dead within days after planting. Western Gardens plants may be a tiny bit more expensive, but you can tell that there plants are healthy, well-watered and well-cared for and will have a much better chance to thrive once you plant them.

We needed growing trays for wheat grass(for wheat grass juice) and they had exactly what we needed! No fuss, nice employee, well priced. Home Depot didn’t have them and directed me to a local nursery. Smiths didn’t have what we needed either. I am a fan of this garden store and will go here from now on for my gardening needs to support local and organic!

Great location! Everyone was so nice & helpful now if only I can keep this plant alive with my black thumbs.
