I’ve frequented here for a lunch spot for years. The sandwiches are good. It’s a cute little market. My coworkers and I joke that the ladies making sandwiches can compare to the soup nazi from Seinfeld though. You should already know what you want when you get to the counter and don’t expect idle chit chat or a smile. Even with that I’d still go… That’s something that didn’t really bother me much in the past cause the sandwich is so good. My reason for the low rating now, is that they decided to take the liberty to charge me more and/or add a tip without my knowledge to my card. Being a trusting person, I usually go green and skip the receipt– so I can’t really dispute the charges. A turkey sandwich is at most $ 6 with tax. So you can imagine my disappointment when I noticed a $ 10 charge on my card. I only get a sandwich, no drinks or extras– so out of curiosity I went back through my account history to find I’ve been overcharged several times over the past couple visits. I’m pretty disappointed and personally won’t be going back. My recommendation for those who do try it: look at the menu in advance, be ready to order and pay cash.

Love, love, love this place! In my opinion, this is the best sandwich place in all of Salt Lake City. I have been going here for at least 15 years. They even have a very filling, delicious vegetarian sandwich. And it’s just as big as the meat sandwiches. The sprouts are the best. I actually didn’t realize it was called Town & County Market. My SIL introduced me to it and she calls it The Fruit Stand and that is what I’ve always called it, too. Either which way, great sandwiches. Don’t try to come here for dinner or on the weekend though, they are closed :(

Very good sandwiches. Quality ingredients and great staff. My only complaint is that this place does not have dining room seating. That would be great to be able to sit down there to enjoy the great Sammy.

They have sprouts! Turkey, avocado and sprout with swiss, is my favorite sandwich but, no one serves sprouts any more, these guys do super nice staff. Great fresh ingredients and lots of options on soups, salads, sandwiches and some sweet treats too. They even had tomalies.

First impressions Matter. This place has so many good reviews I doubt mine will mean much, but since this was my first visit, I have to be honest about my experience. A friend of mine told me about this place, and it is super close to my work, so I popped over for a bowl soup one chilly afternoon. From the outside, this place isn’t much to look at, but I kinda like that. It is like a… well…Country Store that you might expect to see on your way to Grandmas Farm. The inside, also very simple, rustic, dare I say… old? No matter though, appearances are often deceiving. So I mosey up to counter where there are 4 ladies working. The youngest one looks at me and ask what I want in a not altogether friendly tone. That’s ok though, some people are super sticky sweet, and that’s cool. I tell her that I would like some soup and she asks which kind and I say which kind do you have to which she replies pointing at a board and saying(again in a less than pleasant tone) «They are up there». I glance up at the board and see several tasty options, and two options that would be super tasty if mixed together. So I ask if I can mix two of the soups together and she looks at me like I’ve just asked something REALLY stupid. Her reply.“Uh no…” My reply…“I can’t mix soups?” Surely I can’t be the first person who has asked to mix soups in the history of this place. I just don’t believe it. But the girl asks what turns out to be her mother, and the mother said it was fine… So I mixed 2 soups. While said soup is being poured, another lady is whispering to the pouring lady and making some comment about me mixing soups. Again I FAIL to believe that I am the first person to ask to mix soups, and yet here we are. So how was the soup? It was pretty good. I don’t know that it was worth the judgments I received in order to obtain it… But who knows maybe they were just having an off day.

Bread was fresh and soft, the meat and toppings were fresh too. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a good sandwich joint. There is no seating inside from what I could tell.

T & C is a good place to grab a huge sandwich, for a small price. They use fresh ingredients and good bread that’ baked same-day. I’ve never had anything here that knocked my socks off, but I’ve also never been disappointed. The service is fast and efficient, even when there’s a line out the door at lunchtime. It’s cheaper than the fast sandwich chains that dominate the area, and it’s about 1,000% better than any of them.

In South Salt Lake and want an alternative to greasy fast food? Check out the sandwiches at Town & Country Market. It’s the kind of place that neighbors and workers in the immediate area know about, but nobody else does. Which is a shame, but it keeps the lines down. Their deli sandwiches may be my favorite in Salt Lake City — not sub-style(Groves Market is the place for those), but on great bread. I always get marble rye, but they’ve got whole wheat, honey wheat, white, pumpernickel… a lot of different kinds. They have all the usual varieties of meats and cheeses and toppings you’d get at any other deli sandwich shop. It’s best to eat your sandwich immediately – at the picnic tables outside, in your car, back in your office – the toppings tend to soak into the bread quickly if you don’t. I usually get a half sandwich instead of a whole – they’re hefty enough that’s enough for me. It is in a small grocery store, so there are a lot of options to get with your meal; the service is friendly, and that smalltown atmosphere in the market is very appealing. I eat lunch here at least once a month.

Officially found my go-to restaurant for lunch in SLC. Fresh, hearty turkey sandwich with some avocado, and only about 7 dollars?! Certainly worth more, but I’m not complaining. Probably returning tomorrow…

Awesome sandwiches my personal favorite is crab and avocado. The freshest and yummiest tamales I have had yet. older store but you know it is good if the police and firefighters are always in the store.

This place is consistent, friendly and fast! These people bust their butts to get the orders out on time and are a GREAT place to order for lunch meetings. They always have it ready when I get there, it’s always correct and they always take it out to my car. This is a family owned business that truly cares about the product and service they provide. Support local business and give these guys a try, they put Subway to shame!

Five stars for the guy at the counter who is friendly and always says hello. Five stars for the sandwich ladies who are cranky in a famously endearing way. Five stars for the turkey and havarti sandwich on the kind of white bread that sticks to your teeth and is so white bready delicious. Five stars for the option to not only add fresh avocado to everything, but to actually buy a whole avocado if that’s what you need in your life. Five stars for the pre-made salads(the crab one is my favorite) that are under 5 bucks and can be grabbed in a hungry hurry and have me back at my office in under three minutes. Five stars for the homey atmosphere. Five stars for the picnic tables out front. Five stars for the chocolate cookie with the peanuts in it. Five stars for being an institution and not bothering to change much over the years. Five stars for not really having anything that needs to be changed. Five stars for a great beverage selection which includes pink PowerAde Zero. Five stars for the parking-lot-without-lines game. Five stars for being my go-to during marathon meetings when I need to send someone to grab lunch for clients and myself so we don’t kill each other. Five stars for just basically being my favorite lunch in South Salt Lake.

I really love this place. Sandwiches are the best here! My only complaint is that the cleanliness is a little rough. I’ve had a couple stomach bouts that I suspect came from the ladies not changing gloves often enough. I think they need to learn that the gloves are to protect me, not them.

I’ve rocked through more of their menu and they never disappoint(mostly). I had the tamales the other day and I’d put them within the best 2 or 3 I’ve ever had, which was amazingly surprising, but so incredibly delicious(thanks for that, Haley). I’m not a huge fan of their desserts, but since I wind up having to get my food on the run a lot these days and head back to the office, this place is dynamite. A couple of substantial caveats: 1) No bacon!!! 2) Unless you’re a fan of pressed lunchmeat(I’m not, definitely NOT), skip the salami. Marks the first time in recent memory I’ve had to toss the meat out of a sandwich to eat it. 3) Also, no bacon!!! 4) Did I mention no bacon? Because, you know, no bacon!!!

Simple. Good. Local. Cheap. Get in line… it gets crowded at lunch time but beats the aprons off any franchise. I’ve been eating here for 25 years! There’s nothing fancy but the sandwiches are great. The ladies behind the counter build the sandwich you want. My go to is generally a turkey avocado but I’m also a sucker for the Pastrami on Pumpernickel. When’s the last time you saw pumpernickel on the menu? Love it! This little grocery carries shelved goods that you may want to complement your sandwich but a supermarket it is not. It’s a sandwich shop above all. The line often extends to the front door. It rolls quickly past the soda fridges so snag your drink as you wait in line before you order. Otherwise, you may find yourself swimming upstream. ~m

Just took three friends for their first sandwich at T&C two of us got whole sandwiches, two got half. When we were done the halvers wanted to go back and get the other half of their sandwich. 2 chicken salads, 1 turkey and 1 roast beef all excellent, all fresh, just the way you like them! Good price, good selection, good people!

Holy cow, I’m in love with Town & Country Market. What a great place. I stopped in today before the lunch rush, and was met by a host of women who stood behind the counter throwing out recommendations about which specialties I might enjoy most. After making my selections, my lunch was quickly assembled and I was on my way to the cash register where I was helped by an incredibly cordial cashier. The service alone was reason enough for a return visit. However, the food itself was out of this world! It wasn’t what I was expecting to purchase today, but I couldn’t NOT order a tamale bathed in chicken enchilada soup. It came highly recommended, and besides, I’m a sucker for tamales. However, after some thought, I also ordered half a turkey sandwich with avocado & sprouts. You guys. I was so full, but happy. SOHAPPY. Everything was delicious. The tamale had a perfect ratio of filling to shell. The chicken enchilada soup was an excellent complement to the tamale, and there was also corn, black beans, and cheese on top. The bread on the sandwich tasted very fresh and was phenomenal. The turkey and avocado were great, and present in exactly the right quantities. In addition to the food counter, fresh cookies, snacks, and produce are available. In hindsight I wish that I would have browsed a little instead of immediately checking out. It looks like a really cute store. Indoor seating would be a great addition to this restaurant, although I’m not sure where they could squeeze it in. I didn’t really feel like going back and eating in my school’s boring break room. I will be returning to T&C Market, and you should too. It definitely stands out amid South Salt Lake’s diverse and delicious lunchtime destinations.

From the old school«Pure Vernal Honey» sign hung from the building, to the old garage bay doors that now make up the wall, there’s charm, history, character and personality oozing out of this vintage market. It’s a market from a bygone era – a convenience store in function and size, but a place to pick up a cold drink and a snack at a leisurely place in practicum. They have a whole wall with cold bevvies and another fridge in the back packed with salads, boiled eggs, and other quick grab and go concoctions. I came in for a sandwich. There’s an army of people behind the counter waiting to assemble your sandwich, so just belly up and when one of them gets freed up they’ll call you over to take your order. My choice was a turkey on rye, which turned out to be just what I wanted. Thick slices of turkey, real swiss cheese(choose from a host of cheeses, all of which are billed as «real cheese» and not processed stuff) and a handful of breads. The rye was magnificent — just the right amount of soft crumb and an extra-chewy crust. And that caraway seed sour note that sends me reeling. Love the rye. Add in the sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles(hold the onions for me, thanks) and you’ve got a mouthful for $ 6. Take your sandwich to the counter and they’ll stuff it in a paper bag and add a paper towel for your napkin pleasure. You can grab your sammich and sit outside on one of the covered picnic tables, or head home or back to the office. The lines can get long, but don’t be dismayed. They get into a rhythm and it goes fast. Come for the sandwiches or soup or snack, come back to support the little guy and see what’s happening in the little market. Super classic lunch spot and all around neighborhood market.
