This may be my favorite bar in SLC. It’s unpretentious, not too pricy(though if your goal is to get wasted for cheap, X-Wives is a better choice), has a pool table, darts, a large patio and a DJ Friday and Saturday nights who doesn’t only play top 40(though if you love top 40, you certainly won’t be disappointed). The crowd is very mixed — it IS a gay bar, but you’ll also find many straight couples or groups of friends looking to have a good time. It is definitely the kind of place where you won’t feel unwelcome unless you stink like piss. I mean, you would really have to try.

This bar is right by my house and is really fun. Yes, it’s a gay bar, but you can enjoy it whether you’re gay or straight for sure. Half the people in there are from the nearby apartment complexes and are a mix of gay and straight. It’s got a lot of space so you can dance, mingle, talk, whatever. They also have a cool back patio area out back which is really nice– especially in the summer. The drinks are cheap and the bartenders are always really friendly. It’s definitely worth checking out if you live in the area.

Good: DJ on Friday put on a great set Heated outdoor smoking areas. Bad: Drinks were mixed differently every time… By the same bartender They couldnt find my card for 10 minutes when I went to close my tab. «Are you sure it was from tonight?» They kept insisting that my card wasn’t there. I insisted it was. They found it eventually without much of an apology. I won’t be returning, but if you’re going then go on a Friday at least.

Stopped in here to grab a drink before a concert and Im asking myself why ive never been here before, great little bar, nice bartenders, prices aren’t to steep, people seemed chill, I’d loved to come back on a weekend when its a little more hoping and see what else this place has to offer, from the looks of it they have a nice outdoor area!!!

This was quite a pleasant place to go. There’s more activity and relaxed scene than dancing which is a nice change when the dancing is the main highlight of a lot of places.

Great local place. Johnny and the crew are friendly. Patio is nice and big the game area is fun. Only complaints are that the drug crowd is still quite evident and the guy who cleans up the empty glasses stole my ex’s iPhone but returned it the next day.

The best unpretentious watering hole in SLC. If you aren’t having a good time here – it’s your own fault.

Free cover, street parking, friendly bartenders, large patio, and a great mixture of top dance hits sum up the Sun Trapp. I’m in love with their long islands that they serve in mason jars! $ 10 will get you one, and you’ll be on another level once you’re done. There are so many flavor variations, and they’ve all tasted great.

I like this bar, wether you are gay or straight the service here is great. It’s rarely over crowded and the music is played at a level where you can actually talk to your friends. The crowd here is friendly too and the drinks are reasonably priced. They have a huge outdoor patio which is nicer in the warmer months but for the smokers there is a small section near the back bar set up with those heating poles. All in all a great bar and PS if you have stretched ears and want some cool custom jewelry then ask the door guy Quinn for a business card.

Nice place. The dance floor was disappointing and small. but the staff were friendly. Of all the gay bars in town this was the friendliest. We had a pretty good time there. Sponsorship is over thank goodness. So it was easy to get in.

When you walk into this bar if you are not a regular you feel instantly out of place. While I found people friendly and welcoming it seemed that there is so much personal history there, that for a new comer it is hard to fit in. The place is big, and you are able to talk comfortably, the pool tables were fun, and I was able to meet people playing. Drink prices were ok, and it was fun. I just didn’t really like being there even though I found some company.

I was visiting some friends in Salt Lake and they brought me here. I am from San Francisco and I have to say this bar is way nicer then anything we have here. It was very spacious and clean, good music, multiple stages, an Absinthe Lounge, multiple pool tables and dart boards, tons of seating. It’s too bad we don’t have more bars like that here in SF! The liquor laws there prohibit them from making really strong drinks so either plan on spending a lot of money or not getting to wasted.

Don’t confuse the Trapp with the Trapp Door, even though they are right smack next to each other. They are seperate bars. The trap is just a bar; Trapp Door has Bar, Dancing, shows, pool, etc. A friend from LA and I were in town for a wedding and wanted to go OUT for new year’s so we went to the Trapp Door. The DJ was decent, the crowd did have some lookers. A lot of the crowd was pretty clicky. The dance floor has a small T Stage for drag shows, etc, followed by a Bar and small step-up lounge with a platform for dancers. In the rear there are a few pool tables and maybe video games, don’t remember. The drinks were incredibly weak and not well-made. You might as well save your money and just get a beer or soft drink. They are, however pretty cheap, I think it was only 6 or 7 dollars for two drinks. My friend and I had a decent time and I did meet one person. Definitely not the most exciting New Year’s I’ve ever had, but we were glad to go out.

The Trapp get’s 3 stars because it has survived so much in the 801, but the crowd seems to be the same as it was 10 years ago. It is a very stereotypical country gay bar. The crows is fun and is pretty well mixed on the weekends. Front bar, dance floor, back bar and patio. There are darts and a pool table, but watch out for the UT lesbians when they are ready to play. You have the typical UT private club rules where you have to buy a membership or have a sponsor. There will be some body close to the door to sponsor you, so just pay the couple bucks of cover. You can reneter if you leave to go next door to The Trapp Door for a bit… don’t know what the scoop is over there.
