Shopko

I would compare Shopko to a kmart. It is actually very clean and well organized. Shopko is priced in between Walmart and Target range. It is situation perfectly in Sugar House making access great (especially with that large parking lot). The staff was very helpful when I was browsing.

Eh, this place is just okay…
Located inside the same plaza as Nordstrom Rack, Payless Shoe Store and Big 5. My husband and I stopped by here about an hour ago because my husband needs to buy some Claritin (seems like this cold weather just doesn’t agree with this So. Cal born and raised individual).
Never heard of Shopko, but saw the word «pharmacy» on the wall, next to the name of this store, we decided to come in. To be honest, this place kind of reminds me of a Fred Meyer (which I had visited during my visit to Oregon a few years back). This place is a department store that also sells some grocery, has a pharmacy and also an optical department. But the vibe of this place didn’t seem very inviting. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I wasn’t really impressed with this place.
Anyways, my husband was able to find the medicine he wanted. The transaction was easy and painless.
After that, we just got back into our car and left.
Being that there are quite a handful of stores in this plaza and also being that it was Saturday, parking was busy. But we were able to get a spot.
By the way, the restrooms are at the front of the store, in front of the cashiers, in case you are in need of it.

This is only for optical. I have been going for years and have met every employee in this department and everyone has been extremely pleasant and helpful. Having that said this new guy Scott that they hired is the exact opposite of any helpful and personable employee they’ve hired. In the 20 minutes I was there to pick up my contacts there was a line of people gathering behind me. The 1 lady was helping me and Scott was intently helping someone who was trying on glasses and not even acknowledging the line of customers behind me. Now if it were me, trying on a hundred pairs of glasses really doesn’t need assistance. The people waiting in line take priority. I Was really bothered witnessing this because if it were me waiting to be acknowledged watching him be completely oblivious to me I would be pissed.

My colleague recommended I check out the optical section here, since I needed new glasses.
Scott and team did an excellent job explaining my coverage, what options and add-​ons I had for my lenses, and so on. This is the most seamless experience I’ve had at a big box optical, so I’m happy everything went smoothly.

I hate this place. I stopped by to grab a gift bag and a few things. Holy crap it was dark, and nothing was stocked. It reminded of all the stores in a slasher film. Lights flickering and the empty shelves, I kept looking over my shoulder expecting to see a guy with a chainsaw at any moment. Instead it was like a few zombie stragglers were meandering around looking for their next meal. The cashiers were happy and upbeat, like they have spent so much time in purgatory they have forgotten where they are. I felt a lone tear trickle down my face, my heart broke for those lonely souls trapped there paying the price for their sins on the mortal plane. Forever damned to that place. You are in my prayers Danny.

I’m really surprised that this store is still in Sugarhouse. It’s a bit dated and ghetto for the area. After having an issue with their poorly trained staff, I decided it was better to get online and purchase the products that I was looking for instead of dealing with the belligerent employees.

Got a few minutes pop in and they always have a great selection of just what I need. Easy to find just what you’re looking for. Clean and A great big parking lot so there is no problem finding a parking place

I go here frequently because I live nearby and if I am going to brave that parking situation, I try to walk all around that entire shopping center to get every thing I could possibly need or want or even not need or not want. This is how I rate these types of Stores:
Target
Shopko
Walmart
Kmart
I know, I know, most people say Walmart is the worst and it was a close call but I have never been to a Walmart where there are multiple buckets and tarps spread all around from the leaky roof.
Also, the people here are ridiculously nice and I recently got myself some sort of loyalty card. Don’t know what it’s for exactly but my Smith’s Rewards card was getting lonely so I thought I would get him a pocket-​mate.

Prices overall here aren’t the best, but they do have a lot of sales, so if you come often or get ads, you’re bound to get what you want at a great price. I usually only go to ShopKo for the optical department to get my daughter’s glasses which are always reasonably priced with a decent selection. Better than similar competitor’s offerings.

This place is a ghost town. I really have no idea how they stay open. With that said, I know why it’s so dead in here. Compared to other stores in the Shopko category, Walmart & Target, Shopko is priced much higher. Selection on some items can be sparse, such as cosmetics. There is only ever one cashier open, so expect to wait in line.
There are two things going for this location: one, since it is so slow, it is really clean and easy to navigate. Second, it’s the closest place of its type in sugarhouse. But I would prefer a trip to target over a run to Shopko any day.

Inside Shopko stores are a little dated looking, they haven’t been updated for awhile, but the products they carry are solid and the prices are good. When I have the option I prefer shopping at Shopko instead of Target and Walmart. Their stores are nice inside, well stocked, clean and the employees are helpful. I like the products they carry and the Shopko store brands seem better quality than what you’ll find at Walmart. This location off 2100 South is A-​OK.
