what can I say, the best authentic latin food in SLC for under $ 10. The restaurant is laid back and feels like home. This reminds my wife of her childhood food in south america. The best empanadas! And you must try the patacon with crispy plantains.

The place is still awesome. They updated their seating. I forgot to mention that they bring over some wonderful salsas to go with your order including special salsa and cabbage for the papusas and some creamy dressing.

Great food, nice people, amazing prices! Recomend anything off the menu, really. Empanadas, pupusas, and the bandeja paisa are all out of this world. Went in on a Sunday and the waitress was really helpful with explaining the menu items. Love it! Five stars!

First off — this place is divey. There’s no snappy service. There’s no over the top décor. You get a table. You get a chair. You get some silverware. Most importantly, you get amazing, delicious, Latin food to stuff in your face. I came here a few days ago with a big group, so I got to try a little bit of a lot of different items. Highlights: — Chicken noodle soup. It might be the best I’ve ever had, from anywhere, ever. So flavorful, and the dark meat chicken was a nice touch. — Whole fried fish. Yum! For $ 11, this meal came with the fish, plantains, rice, beans, and soup. Great bang for your buck and then some. — Cheese & Columbian empenadas. For $ 1.50, you’d expect a tiny empenada. This is not the case. The cheese one was especially perfect — cooked at the right temperature so the cheese was gooey but not burn the roof of your mouth hot. — Side of sweet plantain that came with sweet cream & cheese. Cooked perfectly. Can’t wait to come back!

The food here is amazing. It’s a blend of a couple central and South American foods but every time I’ve been here it’s been great. The best deal is one of the specials because it comes with salad, soup, and entrée. The only downside is that the place is tiny. If you come with a big party it might take a while for them to find you a place.

Still amazing. Truly Latin comfort food. Get the sopa de res… it’s heaven in a bowl. Sofa still in cans but water was in a glass with ice this time :)

When they say«Latino» they’re not messing around. It cannot be pigeonholed into one country. There’s something from many different parts of Latin America – you’ve got strong presence from Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Mexico, but a smattering of things throughout. On a recent lunch I couldn’t decide what I wanted, so I went with a combination plate. Some Colombian sausage, fried plantains, carne asada, fried egg, and chicharrones. High fives to every last one of those items on that list, but I’m not a huge chicharrones fan. If it’s your thing, go for it. The sweet servers were kind enough to humor me by allowing me to speak Spanish to them. They communicated in English well enough, but it was fortunate I had the rusty Español when I asked more than simple questions. Even though you spend closer to $ 10 for lunch, you’re going to get stuffed. Most stuff comes with rice and soup, and the portions are big. I jammed my face with food and I think the combo was something like $ 12 bucks. I spoke with the owner for a while. He’s really trying to get some love for Latin American food. They prepare everything fresh each morning and he was insistent that they don’t hold anything over. Ambiance, well… suck it up. Once you’re inside it’s okay. Kinda cozy. But it’s next to a strip club, and parking is cramped on the northern side. But it’s not stabby. For something new and different, I was really pleased and would love to explore that varied menu a little more.

My narrative is of a transplant to SLC and so, Sabor Latino serves as my backdrop, my lovely go-to for«back home» fixins. It’s now one of my favorite places in the area. This place, though small and divey, provides comfort food that for some, once only existed thousands of miles away; this place is a true treasure for that reason alone. Walking in, some classic Salsa or Merengue or Bachata, even some Mariachi may play. The aura of grandma’s kitchen is affixed for what should be a family get together. That’s the narrative for Sabor Latino: Home. I’m compelled to write about the food and service here for the variety, the sincerity, and how authentic the tastes are. Now on my second visit, I am pleased with the food… a lot. Not very expensive, and yet — I would pay top dollar to eat like this everyday. My server, so friendly and easygoing(and bilingual) has been happy to explain whatever I may not know on the menu as the food reaches several countries throughout Latin America. As a starter, the Specials will be the best deal. I anticipate updating this review as I try more meals. Yay for you, Unilocal reader! For now, I would recommend the plantains, Desayuno Chapín, and Lentil Soup(Sopa de Lentejas).

I went with a big group and we all shared a lot of menu items. It was so fun to sample the menu, and even better, everything I ate was amazing! We loved the soups, empanadas, pupusas, pasteles, tacos, flautas, & fried plantains. Friendly service. Relaxed family-owned feel. Seriously amazing food.
