First visit here was during a snowy Sunday. Got about 8 – 9 inches of snow and snowshoed around. Dog friendly canyon which is rare in Salt Lake City. Most dogs off leash, which I’m fine with but some dogs or people may not be. No trails are marked and kind of scatter all over so it will be good to return in warmer weather to see trails better. Next time I’ll bring a sled! Saw several people sledding down the trail after their hike up. Great idea! Saw a few different pairs/herds of mule deer way up the mountain feeding. I’m sure there’s a lot of wildlife here if you are first on the trail. Overall a great canyon and only 15 minutes from most places in east Salt Lake City.

Neffs Canyon is an awesome dog hiking trail. My friend recently introduced me to this trail and my dog absolutely loved it. It does not get as busy as Tanner Park and its more of a trail than Tanner. Its right near MillCreek Canyon and I cannot believe I missed out on it for a year now. You can hike all the way to the top of the waterfall where people usually enjoy lunch, music, or drinks. People that go there are totally cool and are not up tight. I even saw some kids set up hammocks and chill out for the afternoon. If you got a dog and want an off leash dog trail, this is it!

I hiked with two friends – 90 minutes up and 60 minutes down. We didn’t even reach the meadow but it was a good workout. There’s a large parking area at the trailhead, a rope swing, some streams, shade, and good paths. Could use better markers for directions. Lots of hikers brought dogs. Nice view of the city.

This is Not a dog park. It is a trail head for Neffs Canyon. It is Salt Lake County so the dogs are supposed to be on leash. It is posted on the trail sign. The police will ticket for off leash.

I’ve been visiting Neff’s with increasing regularity this summer. The trails are great, dogs are permitted off-leash, and it’s close to home. The trail, though almost unrelentingly uphill, is only about 2.5 miles one way. At the end, you’re rewarded with a lovely meadow and some pretty great vistas. What’s not to love?! Bring water for yourself AND for your pet, as the stream beds aren’t reliably full. Also bug spray. The mosquitos and flies are out in full force!
