Huka Bar & Grill

My review is based on a few different experiences. Today was my second time here on a weekday and the service is really poor compared to weekends, which doesn’t make sense because it’s wayyy less busy than weekends. Weekends are great here, but the service during the week is crappy. I really enjoy coming on Friday and Saturday, but mid-​week is lame. The food is decent and the hookah is good, but when there are are 4 servers for 10 or less tables, I expect fast service and as I’m sitting here, I’ve waited nearly 15 minutes for them to take my card so I can leave. During the weekend this place is fun and fast service, with great music, but it’s not even close to that during the week.

The last two times after work I’ve been here the service has been the worst. It’s been a long hard work week I want to go somewhere and have some drinks smoke some Huka and drop like $ 150 bucks doing it. I just went in there waited 15 minutes to be greeted and then finally asked for service. The waitress asked the hostess to just give us menus which she came over and just threw them down. I’m appalled at how terrible this place has become. If I was the owner Id start being there more and take care of these problems. Based on this service I won’t be returning, there are other places to smoke Huka in town.

First appearances this place is nice. Then we got in the door and of course i was expecting to pay a cover charge but not for my wife and her friend! Never have i been somewhere where ladies have a cover charge. Then we order drinks with 2 separate cards and the bar tender charged all the orders on one card and was clueless when we noticed the mistake. I won’t be coming here again specifically because the service quality is terrible!

the girls are super flirty, so if you have a guy in your group who is deperate, take him here. The huka isn’t too expensive, the girls are scantily clad, the music pops off around 10, and before that it’s a great place to kick it and have a conversation. After, it’s a good time to have drinks and party, but it gets pretty loud.

I have been visiting the Huka Bar for several years now. The sole reason for my visits is in the name of course: Huka. It’s one of the only places in the valley that consistently serves huka. It’s not just on certain nights either. If you’re looking for a chill spot to catch up with friends and have a little to smoke and drink, this is a great location on a Sunday-​Wednesday. If you’re in the mood to party and enjoy a live DJ then on Thursday night, this is the place to be. No where else gets as busy as this place does on college night, and I’ve made my rounds when it comes to nightlife in Salt Lake. You’ll see go-​go dancers shakin what their mamas gave them and a nice ratio of males and females of all types if you’re looking to meet people, but you’ll probably already know someone there if you’re a local. Table reservations are highly recommended if you’re wanting to sit and enjoy some Huka on this busy night. Friday’s and Saturdays don’t get as packed, but the place has a nightclub atmosphere and gets pretty lively despite being more chill than on Thursdays. They also have a full food menu if you get hungry. I like the pizza rolls and fried mac n cheese bites. If you like apple flavored beer and sweet cocktails, the big apple is a must.

I had only previously visited Huka on a weekend. The atmosphere, music, and lighting during the weekend was lively, upbeat, and fun. The atmosphere, music, and lighting during a Wednesday night was abandoned, less upbeat, and too bright. If it wasn’t for the good company I had, I don’t think I’d have stuck around long enough to burn through a blend called Pearl Necklace or finish The Big Apple drink we ordered.

This place was not awesome. I went there tonight for a birthday party and I was incredibly disappointed. I ordered a martini and it was absolutely disgusting. I am fairly certain that the martini had no vodka in it, and only olive brine. I couldn’t drink it, it was horrid. Our server kept forgetting our orders. I had to ask four times for her to bring us waters before she finally did it. The servers seemed too busy dancing to the crappy music than taking care of their customers. The food was also disgusting. We ordered spinach dip and it was nasty. It was hard and sticky and gross. It was microwaved into this cup and it was solid. There was no dipping involved, because it was just a solid mass of nastiness.
The music sucked, the food sucked, the drinks sucked, the service sucked, and the huka we ordered came out the wrong flavor.
I’m never going back to this place. It is not my kind of joint, at all. I kept wondering if I was going to get the date rape drug in my drink from all the smarmy sweet bro’s there. Yuck.

This was the first bar I entered on my 21^st birthday many years ago. I’ve been several times and this place just gets progressively worse. The last time I was there was to celebrate my friends Kristin’s 25^th birthday. It was nostalgic for us, so we thought it would be fun to listen to the Dj and smoke some Huka.
Our server was annoyed with us right off the bat. We were hungry, ready for huka and drinks and ready for a good time. She was unamused, and didn’t look like she wanted to be there. The drinks are really expensive, and they upgraded the alcohol in our mixed drinks without asking if we had a preference. Kristin ordered a White Russian, which was gross. I took it back to the bar and the bartender was really nice and explained they don’t use cream, they just swirl some whip cream in it to compensate. Which… Whip cream is not milk, nor is it heavy cream. She made her another drink which was very sweet.
Patio is cool and has some man made firepits. Food was regular bar food.
This place used to be so much more enthusiastic with music and excited servers. Maybe I just have a different view now that I’m older. Very very unimpressed. Won’t be back.

I really like that I have a hookah bar nearby me. Sometimes, you just wanna sit down and smoke hoookah. I love the vibes of Huka Bar and grill. Yeah on thursdays, fridays, and saturdays it gets crazy and there is plenty of good looking people dancing and having a good time. I love the mellow vibe of sundays where I can just relax, its your preference, right. I really like their servers as well. Didn’t get my servers name today but she was nice/​cute. They really do care about their customers and their hookahs are not expensive at all. Come check out the place, its a good go to spot.

I’ve only been here twice but both times were a lot of fun! I love that this place plays hip hop music cuz that’s what gets me goin on the dance floor! The DJs have been great at keeping the party alive. This is a great location for birthday celebrations!
The only complaint I have is the hookah. I’ve been to many hookah bars and the flavors are usually pretty strong, you can taste exactly what you ordered. But here, the flavors are so faint I couldn’t tell the difference between any of the flavors. Also, the hookah here becomes harsh very quickly. You can only get a few smooth hits out of it.

I am not a fan of this place at all, and am not likely to return.
Everything here is outrageously expensive, and it doesn’t really seem to be worth the cost. I came with a group of friends on a Thursday night, and some of us were charged $ 7.00 just to get through the door. Others of us were not charged a penny, and that didn’t seem fair to me at all. The drinks cost an arm and a leg, and didn’t have enough alcohol in them to ensure that I wouldn’t feel my arms and legs by the end of the night.
The seating arrangements were confusing and way too tight for my taste. The dance floor was tiny, and the music selection was not very impressive.
The only positives that I can think of where that the staff was incredibly nice, and the drinks I had tasted okay.

I was surprised I liked this place, considering my expectations were low. Came on a Saturday night, $ 7 cover. Lame. But ok, we came fairly early so we got a table. I would recommend reserving a table if you’re having a big group though I’m not sure how much it is. Also if you’re on a guest list cover is only $ 2. How do I get on that…
The waitresses are all scantily clad in corsets and there was a pretty good DJ that night. The dance floor is decently sized and there was a wide range of creepers to mid life crisis men and women. There was also your typical mid 20s people like myself. The waitress, Sheila, was pretty good. She checked on us fairly frequently and adjusted our huka when it got harsh. There was a period of time when she was flirting with some guy and we needed her but whatever.
We tried plan B, which was a fruity melon pineapple something. It wasn’t that good. We then got mint blackberry and it was good. I suggest mint anything. Beer is $ 5 a pint or $ 7 a stein. Get the stein to last a while and they won’t bug you about getting another drink. They have a ton of beer on tap, including my favorite, shock top. The special was $ 3 bud light pint, aka horse piss. Upgrade to good beer you won’t regret it.
Overall it was a good experience, I hate the cover charge and I can see the service being hit and miss but overall I was pleasantly surprised.

Once upon a time, in a valley of happiness, pranced four charming young lads in a field of beautiful little green trees tucked very neatly within the town of Clarkville, where lived papa Clarks and mama Clarks. In the darkness of the smoke filled cabin pondered the four young handsome lads, contemplating the complexities of life the four boys decided to journey their way to the Huka forest, upon arriving to the land of Hukaville, the clan began to ache with hunger. When eyes fell upon the black butterfly, such lust fell upon them and filled their empty hearts. To fulfill the needs of the young boys, and rid them of the aches deep within the stomachs of them, the black butterfly brought upon them a large platter of THE WORST NACHOS EVER!!! Such disgust fell upon their mouths, leaving them with much despair. Although satisfied with the sacred ritual of the burning mint and vanilla bean concoction placed upon their table, accompanied with an unforgettable ambiance, the four young men parted from Hukaville with a hole in their hearts for the anguish they felt.

I had my reservations before going out here the other night. However, I knew nothing about the place but I’m so glad I went!
Went with school friends and had a great time.
The drinks were cheap. The DJ was pretty good so the dancing the was fun. I just didn’t expect for there to be any dancing at all. Tip: it gets hot inside, especially if you are dancing. Dress light.
The atmosphere was awesome. It’s a 20 – 30’s type joint.
The bartenders were alright. One drink order misunderstanding but other than that they did their job just fine. I actually can’t wait to come back when we go out again. Fun place.

I read over some of the reviews and I think there’s a major misunderstanding. This place isn’t bad. Yeah the service isn’t great, but that’s what you expect from a girl lighting huka in public while wearing lingerie. This is a club first and foremost. So if you are looking for a quiet night out, with good service and great food, this is not the place. More than anything, I feel like this place masquerades as a «classy» and «up-​scale» night for the classless and low scale. It’s for younger kids, lets say 21 to 25. That’s the age range unless you’re 35 and wearing Affliction, then you’ll still fit in. Loud music, scantily clad go go dancers, douche bags galore… just know what to expect when you come here. Yes there will be a cover charge for carrying a penis in your pants, no you don’t care because you’re only here because this is where some female friend wanted to celebrate her birthday.

Dear Diary,
We received a drunken call from a couple of our friends asking us to come to the Huka Bar for a few drinks and maybe a bit of Pearl Necklace. Heck with that kind of an invite how could we resist. On Friday night I paid a 7 dollar cover and my first wife got in free because it was ladies night. The bar was a little dead and we had a table with our mates at the far end by the dance floor. The 2 Go Go dancers with daddy issues were ok nothing to write home about. The really good ones I put into our family Christmas letter. The Huka was nice but it kept going out. We ordered the cheese bread and that was GOOOOD. Ok it may have been the 4 pints of Guinness talking but it was really good.
The service leaves a bit to be desired. If you are not hitting on them they seem to think you are invisible. Unfortunately for me I am a very happily married man and did not feel the need to flirt or hit on the pear shaped waitress with the extremely tacky bra sticking out the back of her dress so it took about 30 minutes for her to notice I had an empty pint. Even though she had been to our table 3 times and I kept trying to get her attention. Little tip ladies your bra is meant for support it is not meant to be seen sticking out the top, the back or the sides of your dress, it looks tacky and makes you look like you are coming from the trailer park.
We may go back but not for a while.

Great place to hang out; either at the bar or the lounge. Both the lounge and bar is now 21+.
The lounge area has two pool tables, a dart board, and soon to have a shuffleboard. They also have a jukebox (soon to have a built in karaōke machine) so you could sing along to any songs they have available. Words would be shown on the six plasma TVs.
The bar side has more of a club type feel. Thursday nights is the most busiest of the week. Dress to impress.

I like the concept of Huka Bar — you can grab a bite while hanging with your friends, take a few puffs of huka, go to the bar and order some drinks, or hit the dance floor when you feel like shaking your booty.
However, cover charge can be pricey depending on the day you go. You can sign up for their texts to get in for free but I think those only cover Thursdays — Saturdays. The music can be bleh on some nights and the huka is expensive considering that it is burnt half the time.
Thursday College nights are fun with good dance music, but then it gets really crowded and the dance floor is only meant to fit a few people.
An ok hangout place considering that Utah lacks places like the Huka Bar but there are other places downtown that offer huka as well.

I have never paid to get into Huka Bar because I have wonderful friends who work here and either put me on their guest list or escort me in. Luckily, their busiest night is Thursday, which is College night so you can get in free with a College ID. It definitely has more tables, booths, and rooms so there’s more choices when you’re looking to make a reservation. They have a moderate-​sized dance floor that’s better than Sandbar.
It’s rare to have a DJ that actually plays consistent hip hop or rap music throughout the night, which in my opinion, is the best music to dance to. Some of their huka is cheaper than most of the other clubs’ huka, like Sky Bar or Circle Lounge. The most disappointing part is that their huka could be really nasty or unflavorful sometimes. I can smoke some delicious huka at my friends’ house instead for ¼ of the price at Huka Bar.
Otherwise, Huka Bar is definitely one of the most «poppin» clubs in town. During their events, it can get super packed, so make sure you show up early. Most of the staff is really friendly. I just wish the bouncers would escort the drunk, annoying White girls out of the club to save everyone from their obnoxious behavior. I know Harry O’s and nightclubs in Vegas would never tolerate that.

I have been here a few times now. There is an under 21 section and an over 21 section. I have only been to the UNDER 21 section with some friends from work.
I have experienced better but if you go on a Tuesday Night… It’s ½ off. So you can get a Premium Blend for the price or a regular bowl.
So in regards to he Under 21 side. it’s okay if you go with friends and enjoy yourself. Don’t expect much Customer Service &… Don’t Each The Sushi There. Go on A Tuesday Night… And it’s ½ Off.
