Adorable tea. And small plates for a small price. Had the delicious homemade dumplings, to die for pot stickers and great service. Nothing to complain about!

Came here with some friends because they suggested this place and said that the dim sum here is really good. Well I am not sure why they thought it was good but growing up with dimsum I think differently. The dimsum here comes out one at a time because they reheat/cook it when you order it. So some of the dimsum will come out piping hot. Most of the dimsum my friends considered as good was very greasy and salty. I drank like 5 cups of water while eating there. The price of the dimsum was very high also compare to other places plus I wasn’t even full after eating over a $ 100 worth of dimsum. I really didn’t like this place personally. The food wasn’t that good and the service was horrible. The only time you see the waitress was when she brought the food. Other times she won’t be there

My friends convinced me to break vegetarian for a day(there are very very few vegetarian options here) but I was glad I did. Our server was more attentive to my vegetarianism than anyone else I’ve encountered. She pointed me towards options they did have, asked if I had an allergy and specified that the ingredients were cooked with meat. As a vegetarian I have rarely seen such incredible courtesy. The staff here is 10⁄10. They gave great recommendations, and were beyond courteous. Our food was out at the perfect moment. Steamed buns here are phenomenal. Chicken, pork, great enough to try both. The foil chicken also stood out as exceptional. Food is great, prices are reasonable, staff is exceptional. I certainly plan on going back.

I took a friend here on a Sunday and although their dim sum is made fresh it was not very impressive. We ordered the turnip cakes, pork short ribs, crab claws, paper wrapped chicken and a daily special roasted pork. The charm of a turnip cakes is supposed to be the contrast of crispy outside and soft inside. Although the flavor was right on, they were kinda mushy inside and out. We also ordered the pork short ribs. They were steamed, fatty and just plain yucky. We didn’t eat but one taste… It was a waste of money. Unlike many cart service dim sum restaurants their serving sizes were a bit large especially for sight unseen. Bottomline, if you’re familiar with what you like and know what the dishes are without seeing them you may have better luck. I will not go back especially in such sketchy neighborhood.

Dim sum was awesome. Off the beaten path. Service was excellent. Prices very good. The home made soy sauce on the dim sum rocked. We tried 5 or 6 different dishes. All were hot and excellent. Crab, pork, homemade dumplings, black sesamee, shanghai.

This place was absolutely ridiculous the lady gave me such a hard time asking for a lunch special when she kept saying that the lunch was ending at 3 but we have 1520 minutes to eat lunch so when I mention to her that we had at least 15 more minutes before it was 3 she marched back into the kitchen and I took the Cook said he can do it so when they agreed to do it she said that I had to eat the soup that was part of the special at the restaurant by that time I’m irritated I just walked out

Never go to this place! I will show u the picture of our take out. It’s like someone has already had it and we pack them up! Have never seen a Chinese restaurant gives such little amount of dishes. Never never and never go to this place!

Atrocious — one of the worst Chinese restaurants I’ve ever visited. Bad service, small plates, and something they claimed was their specialty«beef» short ribs(but I’ve eaten a lot of beef in my life, and I’m not sure what exactly I ate at the Hong Kong Tea House). They served Walnut Shrimp… but without walnuts(they used cashews instead)! Their location is in a bad section of town and not worth putting yourself at risk!

I love dim sum. I’ve grown up eating it, but it’s nice to experience a place like Hong Kong Tea House that isn’t your typical spot. The small plates here are made to order, so it does take a little bit longer but the quality can’t be beat. I loved the crab claws, scallop dumplings, and the black sesame buns the most. Some items like the wonton soup and stuffed mushrooms are things I’ll definitely pass on next time, but nothing I had was bad.

It was 9:00 pm on Sunday night, and I called ahead for take-out. The General Tso’s Chicken $ 7.99 was soggy, and fatty, but why did I even order this? It’s literally the most played out, every Chinese place has it item, so why? I don’t know. The Dim Sum menu looks amazing, but it’s only available until 3:00 in the afternoon, so next time for that. I also had the Steamed and Fried Bun $ 4.99, those were sweet, and warm, and darn good. What are they? Just some buns, one is fried though, and the other is doughey. Next I had the Silver Wrapped Chicken $ 3.99. Very delicious, juicy, tender, great flavour. Lastly, I enjoyed the egg custard bun which came with a sweet glaze. This was a nice little dessert. Next time I will come earlier to try the good stuff.

Repeat after me, Black sesame dumplings, black sesame dumplings, black sesame dumplings! Warm, buttery black sesame, in a gooey dumpling kissed with coconut flakes. You seriously cannot find this anywhere in Utah besides at Hong Kong Tea House. I still find myself licking my lips when I think of the taste of these sweet dumplings. You really don’t need to order anything else from the menu, these dumplings are enough to make your stomach and heart filled with joy *_____* But just in case you were craving other dim sum items, get the steamed BBQ pork buns, crab claws, chicken feet, Shanghai dumplings, Chinese broccoli, and salt pepper calamari. Dim Sum is made to order so freshness is guaranteed. The service was great, contrary to what I read in the other reviews. I find that sometimes you will just get crap service wherever you do and there is no rhyme or reason to it. But I found that when I go into an establishment with a smile and enthusiasm, it’s contagious! I made the servers smile with my excitement about the black sesame dumplings and in return received great service. It was either that or they were weirded out about how happy I was and it was a nervous smile? Haha either way, I’ll take it!

I have lived in Salt Lake for a decade now and had almost given up on finding good Chinese food locally. I have followed friends to countless Chinese restaurants promised gold, just to be disappointed. Hong Kong tea house was excellent. We went on a weeknight and there was no wait, plenty of parking right out front, and most importantly the food was awesome. The potstickers hot and crispy and excellent as were the eggrolls. The general tso chicken was delicious and tender. I would suggest this place to any one who enjoys quality Chinese food. Excited to return.

One of my favorite places to take friends who are new to the concept of Dim Sum. Pros include that the restaurant is very clean and relatively quiet(compared to other Chinese restaurants) and all of the dim sum is made to order. This means that you may end up waiting a bit longer to get your food, and it doesn’t always come out all together, but it’s guaranteed to be piping hot and fresh. My favorites include the fried shrimp ball, sticky rice in lotus leaves, pork spare ribs with black beans, and the BBQ Pork in rice paper(something I can only find in SF and Hong Kong Tea House!). Cons(that aren’t even really cons in my book) are that you don’t have the typical carts to pick and choose from. The carts can be fun for a Westerner who is new to dim sum and the names of dishes mean absolutely nothing to them.(Rethinking it, the no-carts could also be a «pro» for my partner who would rather go hungry than see chicken feet abundant). Another«con» for me is that they’re stopped serving Shark Fin Soup, but it’s still been on the menu for over a year now… yeah, yeah. I know it’s a cruelly-sourced food; add it on to my list after foie gras. A little out of the way for us, but no more so than the authentic places along Redwood Road. Hong Kong Tea House is worth a try if you want a little more upscale dim sum experience.

I think this place served one of the best dim sum in SLC, Utah. I like the fact that the place is clean and hence, it really separated this restaurant from other Chinese restaurant in town, that sometimes could be rather dirty. Their dim sum is fresh and made-to-order, so you would get fresh and warm dim sum every time you ordered. With this, however, it normally takes them 15 – 20 minutes to deliver the dish that you ordered; hence, I recommended that anyone should order their dishes in the beginning. If you ordered later-on, it would come with additional 15 – 20 minutes. Also their dim sum is relatively less oily than other dim sum in the area. This is one of the reasons on why I like to come to this restaurant, as you do not feel like eating too much oily food. My favorite dim sum is the chicken feet as it is truly tasty without too much salt or sugar … just nice. Normally I ordered two dishes just for myself(I shared a little with my six year old as he liked it as well). My wife’s favorite is the steamed spare ribs. This is a delicate dish to cook as it may end-up with too much oil/fat in the dish; but Hong Kong Tea House serve this well. Their chili is another differentiator, whereby it just tastes perfect. Everytime we went to this restaurant, my wife will order/buy a separate chili order to go … this is not in the menu, but they are selling it if you asked. So all are good so far, some of the reasons on why I did not give the«5 stars» are as follows: 1. The parking is difficult 2. The service is not that great… especially closed to 3PM, you could see that their servers are tired and, sometimes, they may show some frustration 3. The length of the 2nd or 3rd orders due to «made to order» dim sum concept.

I’ve been to SLC a few times before for work, but this is the first time I’ve eaten at an authentic Cantonese restaurant. I’m normally a little suspicious of Chinese restaurants in cities where I don’t see many Chinese people walking around. ;) On this trip, I was in town on a family vacation with a couple«elders». We stopped at HK Tea House for dinner on our first night and again for dim sum on the way back to the airport a week later. The food was excellent and compares favorably with many places I’ve eaten at in the San Francisco area. Stand out dishes for dinner included Peking duck(where the crispy skin is served separately with steamed white buns… one of my all-time favorite foods in the world), steamed fish, stir fried large pea pod stems and pot stickers. I don’t usually get excited about pot stickers, but these were really good! Evenly thin, soft dough, pan fried crispy on one side. For dim sum, all the standards were done really well, and we even enjoyed some dishes that I haven’t seen elsewhere: lotus root shrimp cakes(mentioned in other reviews) and shrimp in flaky pastry shell. The roast pork deserves special mention as well. It was tender and fatty with a super crunchy skin. I will definitely be recommending this place to any friends who travel to Salt Lake.
