Este Pizzeria Sugar House

This place is right next to our favorite game store and we’ve been wanting to try it for a while. We came on a week night and it was pretty empty, but still surprisingly loud, I wouldn’t want to be here on a busy night.
We got an order of garlic knots and a 16″ NYC combo pizza. The garlic knots were okay, a little too crunchy for my taste, but they came with really delicious marinara so that was good. The pizza was good, but really just a basic pizza. The toppings were fresh and that’s all there is to say about it. For $ 21 I was expecting a bit more.
Overall, decent food, but nothing amazing especially not for the price. I am glad I tried this place, but I don’t think I’ll be back.

Awesome pizza, great atmosphere, we come here every week. Fav pizza: sausage, basil, roasted red pepper. Server Brady is excellent!

Way way way overpriced. Large 3 topping for $ 26? The crust had HUGE bubbles all over, resulting in pieces you only eat half of (unless you like plain crust for dinner), you could literally count the number of non-​toppings. We don’t like heavy, goopy pizzas but this was painfully lacking. It was like the Canadian bacon got on there by mistake instead of a paid-​for addition. When you did get a bite with toppings it was very tasty but not worth even the groupon price. Really disappointing.

I’ve been to the downtown location a few times and finally stopped by the sugar house location. I ordered a single slice and they only have pepperoni or cheese as single slice options after lunch. I wish there was a way to customize a slice with additional toppings like you can at other places. The restaurant itself was a lot bigger than I was expecting. Much more seating available than the downtown location.

Pretty good fair for a really good price. The pizza was nice and crispy on the bottom and melty on the top. Topped off with a soda for 5 bucks and a great waiting staff made for a good experience.

I decided to buy a groupon for this place and make it a date night. This was my second time there. The first time was okay but not amazing; however, this time around we didn’t enjoy it at all. It all started right after we were seated. No one came to talk to us for a solid 10 minutes. We had pretty much already decided on an appetizer as well as which pizza we were going to get when our waiter eventually got to us. I’m not sure about how workflow works at this restaurant, but it seemed kind of dumb to have 2 waiters running around helping the tables that were full while there were 4 employees just chit chatting behind the register. Anyways… the fried zucchini was good. And on the to pizza. Our pizza was horrible. We did half veggie lasagna pie and half veggie. Compared to the first time I came the pizza seemed a little undercooked as well as tasteless. The crust was cardboardish and the sauce was lacking all sorts of flavor. I dont know what happened between the first and second visit but everything just seemed off. If in the sugarhouse area I’d say there are other places I’d go before visiting Este again.

It’s the best gluten free pizza I’ve ever had. I also love that they have a pizza with no dairy, since my husband can’t eat it. Good atmosphere in store. My issue is that the gluten free pizza is pretty expensive for how small it is, always a bummer when we order it for large groups.

If you are hungry, their pizza will be amazing. I don’t see what the hype is. It taste nothing like New York pizza and this is coming from a real New Yorker who lived in Brooklyn, New York. I would only come back if we are in the area.

This was pretty decent pizza and is a cool joint. Ivan was a boss for a server. Is there better pizza out there? Yes. Would I come here again. Yes. We had the lasagna pie and the bbq chicken. The lasagna had a little too much ricotta cheese and I didn’t get the impression I was eating lasagna. The bbq was awesome. Crust is good here. It’s got that wood oven crispy crunch. They have pinball here!

Nothing beats good food and a great atmosphere. Add affordable and you’ve placed your cherry on top!
Unilocal led me to this place after filtering for both pizza and Wi-​Fi. What a find! I live in South Jordan and make my way to this sugar house location as often as I can. It has a very fun edgy atmosphere. While the menu is robust and offers a wide Range of specialties, I am happy to order their 2 slice and a drink combo for a mere $ 5. (While the selection of pizza if getting the $ 5 combo is from a limited menu, there is something for everyone. Vegetarian option, meat, daily special and your standard pepperoni and cheese. You can mix and match) Best five bucks you’ll spend. The pizza is VERY GOOD and the slices are large.
You’ll love and feel comfortable coming here alone, or with friends.

I moved away before Este moved to its new location and changed its format around a little bit. When I came back this fall, it was no longer new to the general public, but it was new to me and I was filled with dismay.
Where once there had been a diverse assortment of slices on display for the consumers’ inspection, now there was just a sign listing 3 – 4 slice options. Where once those slices were available for consumption all day and all night long, now they’re only available until the end of lunch. Where once you could order at the counter any time, now you’re seated and waited on by servers after five.
Este, you nailed it last time. Why did you mess with perfection? That being said, the lunch special is still unbeatable (2 slices + soda for $ 5), as is their $ 12 Tuesday special. I’m not stopping going, but I WILL be complaining every time I visit. FYI.

In the simplest of terms, it was fine. The pizza was fine. I could have done without the blaring Beastie Boys in the background and «happier employees» is on my list of wants, but if we’re talking about the food, the pizza was fine. We went super basic for our first visit and ordered a smaller size pepperoni and for the two of us, the size was perfect and the pizza was fine.
The pizza was fine enough that I’ll go back. For thin crust pizza in SLC, I think this is a decent option.

Everything rocks… except the cook on the crust.
I want to really really like this place. It is close to home and extremely convenient. I ordered a bbq pizza a week ago and the crust was undercooked and at parts still a little raw. I decided to give it another shot and ordered a cheese pizza half an hour ago, thinking that maybe the sauce and toppings on the bbq made the crust soggy. Sad to say… crust is still underdone. it tastes good, but then the underdone dough kicks in and is just not enjoyable. Really unfortunate, wanted to be a big fan!
Would love to try it again and update my review, if someone could guarantee me cooked crust.

Well well well… end dramatic review. To put it pretty simple the pizza is good, the prices are outrageous in comparison to the quality of pizza. I guess they have a cool little lunch special or something? maybe do that instead of getting an entire pizza.
I ordered the pink pizza (most of their pizzas dont come with toppings you add them on for extra). Put pepperoni on because… anymore toppings and I would be filling with 50 cent for bankruptcy (I’m topical).
And then you eat the pizza (ps the box is too small to hold their pizza which isnt a big deal just a little more disappointment). The sauce was delicious, the pepperoni was… ehhh. And the crust was kind of just there as filler. I was more than a little sad.
THE VERDICT: the good news… pizza is in abundance in SLC so you don’t really need to be worried this is your only choice. Go get some delish pizza elsewhere and enjoy your stay/​life in SLC. I was tricked… do not make the same mistake i did.

This is one of my favorite pizza joints in SLC. We ordered pizza for take out Sunday when they were super busy. Unfortunately we were hung up on twice. We continued to call because it’s that good! There was an hour wait for pick up which we eagerly waited for. When we finally got our pizza it was cold which we were really disappointed about. The owner personally contacted us and apologized plus offered to fully comp the pizza. She also insisted on giving us a discount for our next visit. Talk about great customer service! This place truly cares about their customers. They get a full 5 stars in my book.

Truthfully, I’ve only ever ordered one item from here because it is sooo good that I don’t feel like I can branch out! Almost every other week my boyfriend and I order an Italian Flag pizza with pepperoni on it. Most of the time we order it for pickup, where it is always ready on time and always hot. The few times we’ve had it delivered (yay for living in the free delivery area!) it has arrived during the delivery window and in perfect condition, definitely worth the good tip we give the friendly delivery folks!
If I have one tip, it is to order a side of marinara sauce to dip your crust in. Their crust is too good to just leave on a plate.
My only very minor complaint is that sometimes the ladies working the front are a little unfriendly. They aren’t rude, just unfriendly. I assume it is due to the stress of working at a busy pizza place on a Friday night!

If you are thirsty and it happens to be Thursday then get to Este for Thirsty Thursdays pronto. $ 2 Pints, $ 4 Steins and $ 8 pitchers of draft beer all damn day. Met up after work with some colleagues so we could get the think tank going. Nothing like a few pints to get the juices flowing.
I do love me some Este and the new location is bigger and badder then ever. This place meets all criteria for my East Coast style pizza checklist. They do it right with a thin crispy crust and not too much cheese. This place has high quality toppings and ingredients.
After some beers and collaborating we needed sustenance. We ordered the sausage and roasted red pepper specialty pizza, which was topped with fresh chopped basil. It was a perfect combo.
The service here was fantastic and the manager went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Our drinks were never empty and they even rewarded the group for their Thursday night loyalty with some free zeppoles for dessert. Cinnamon sugar coated dough-​balls served with some cannoli filling. Not bad!

Don’t let the hype or the look of the food fool you, it’s nothing special! We ordered a pizza to go about 30mins before closing and it was not impressive. Very basic and almost tasted like it needed to be cooked longer or something. It seemed as if they don’t have the baking technique down.
I probably wouldn’t go back!
