Chungas is the hole in the wall Mexican food place we all hope to stumble upon. The have some of he best Al Pastor I’ve had in the state and their prices are more than affordable. Also, they have a creamy jalapeño salsa that is incredible.

I wanted a place with authentic tacos and decided to give it a shot. I was impressed. I had the spicy chicken tacos and my friend had the al pastor tacos. The food was so good and full of flavor! It has an intimate feel and the service was great. Definitely my new favorite taco place!

It’s hard to find fault with Chungas. The Tacos Al Pastor are simply the best tacos I’ve ever had. Period. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but don’t be deceived. It’s clean, fast, cheap, has excellent and courteous service, and everything(literally, everything) on the menu is fantastic. This is a favorite place to bring out-of-towners/visitors and we have yet to bring someone who didn’t love it. A hidden gem in SLC.

Authentic Mexican cuisine at the right price! Got a pork Ensalada and a medium drink, just under $ 10. Friends got some nachos, pork tacos and a cheese quesadilla. All of the food was remarkable! Plus they have indoor and outdoor seating. Quick, smooth service. I will be returning here for burrito very soon.

This place was delicious!!! It was my first time eating there and I will certainly be coming here again! I got the Asada Enchilada smothered with Verde sauce and cheese. It was amazing! After eating pretty much the whole plate, I don’t feel at all greasy or gross like I have at some other Mexican restaurants. I hate feeling laggy after eating a super greasy meal but, this place didn’t do that to me! It tasted really fresh and well made! 100% I would recommend friends and family to this place!

What a disappointment after reading the reviews. Price is good but food was very sub par. Over salted chicken, low quality beef which was chewy and lousy salsa. Corn tortillas were just ok. I won’t be returning.

We came into Chunga’s after deciding not to wait over an hour to get a table at Red Iguana. I wasn’t sure about this place when we pulled up, but once inside it definitely did not disappoint. The food was incredibly delicious and fresh. My partner and I both being vegetarians, were pleasantly surprised when we saw that Chunga’s offers a surplus of vegetarian options. We decided to split the zucchini flower burrito and the mushroom tacos. I never knew zucchini flower and some mushrooms could be so delicious and have so much zest. Chunga’s has done it right. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quick bite and some full flavored food

Darn good. I had the tacos al pastor. Excellent. I have to say my dinner at Chunga’s was better than at the Red Iguana the night before. Chips and salsa were good too.

No flavor other then LIME, it was cheap priced but the enchiladas were super sour and the Pastor Street Tacos were sour and my burrito was sour AF too I’m from Ca and came to visit REDIGUANA and I didn’t want to eat @ REDIG2 days in a row but I should have! P. s. Rice and beans sucked too even Coke was sour! Use that lime in those dirty bathrooms

We choose this place over the red iguana because of the reviews. We were not disappointed. The food is excellent. I would highly recommend

I came to Chungas with our local taco expert Joshua S. Surprisingly, I never knew this place existed, and it was on the dark side of the town in the back alley street like 900 W. Some may call it ghetto area, but it was actually normal-ish to me. Nobody tried anything to our cars parked in the neighborhood. The interior and exterior seating areas were quite clean too. If you never been here before, go with the Al Pastor meat on everything. The taco with juicy pork meat plus a touch of pineapple citrusy flavor was taco worth dying for… Maybe the tacos were too good, so the rice and bean on the side tasted extra good that evening. Asada would be my next choice. They also have this super-sized mango drink you can get here. Even not the best, Chungas was definitely among the better taco joints in town. They will be one of the places I will always keep in mind when I crave tacos. Only downside is a bit out of the way for folks down south. The staffs were all quite friendly as well.

Rumors are true, Chunga’s has the best al Pastor around. I prefer it packed in a taco shell here. Their grilled chicken tacos are addictive as well, with big chunks of seasoned breast meat mmm. Not that nasty shredded chicken served elsewhere. Their tortas and burritos are a great value here, heavy on the meats, torta bread fresh and soft. Prices are a little higher here than comparable places, but flavors are superior so it balances out. Service here is some of the friendliest around. They go out of their way to ensure your satisfaction. And they keep a very clean place. New renovations are done well, patio is always fun. This is some of the best authentic Mexican food around. I’m rarely in Rose Park, but it’s worth the drive.

I’ve heard great things about this place and have been wanting to try it for a while. It had a pretty good crowd on a Saturday night – which is always a good sign. I ordered the Al Pastor tacos, which I guess is their specialty/what they’re known for. Two tacos, beans and rice. Can’t go wrong. They were full of flavor.

So good and so cheap! This really hit the spot after a day skiing in Park City. I got the taco plate with grilled steak and spicy pork tacos. My boyfriend got the grilled steak, spicy pork and al pastor. Grilled steak was my favorite. The meat was tender and slightly charred. Al pastor was his favorite. Al pastor can tend to be overcooked to the point that the meat is rubbery, but not this place. The meat was seasoned well and cooked just right. Spicy pork was just ok to me. The flavor was good, but It wasn’t really spicy at all. The rice and beans were cooked perfectly! The rice was fluffy and flavorful. The black beans were also well seasoned. This place is tiny with limited seating. I wouldn’t say this is necessarily bad because I think it adds to the charm of this hole in the wall. I recommend coming with just one or two friends or ordering it to go. Please don’t be a jerk and bring a huge party that takes up the whole restaurant. This place has great food for a great deal.

This is a definite dive place! The restaurant was full even at close to 10! We decided to get our order to go. I got a carne asada burrito and dang! It was good! I also like that their default style of beans are black beans. It’s definitely more authentic to most parts of latin America verses the common theme of refried beans. The prices here are fair for what you get as well. As other people have mentioned the only menu here is on the counter so when you come in be prepared to sneak a peak at it while other people are ordering in front of you. The staff was very patient with me while I looked things over though. Two words of caution though: 1. my kids chose not to order here. The items here were a little more spicy then they care for so if your kids are not into mild/moderate heat you might want to consider ordering something less intense for them. 2. The bathrooms are off the outside area. So, if it’s super cold and you can wait to go you might want to wait. The bathrooms also could use a more regular cleaning.

On occasion, Chungas changes up its red salsa. On my visit, this past week, my brother and I concluded that they added more garlic to it. Made it SOOOO good. The enchiladas were tasty(1 asada, 1 al pastor), and the beans were piping hot, and delicious. It’s always a treat to come here.

You know you’ve stumbled upon a great place when you ask local Mexicans their favorite restaurant in the area. If you arrive before they run out, get the al pastor. It’s fantastic. In my mind, it is like a more budget friendly Red Iguana. Huge portions, delicious food, and it is topped off with authentic Mexican food combined with fresh ingredients. As my friend Augustine would tell me, they put a lot of work in making sure to make it with the right ingredients. It’s always fresh. They season their meats just right and their sauces aren’t just thrown together making for tasty meal. Parking is practically non-existent and the place is always packed which is as good a sign as any that the food inside is worth the hassle.

Very good burritos, tacos, and enchiladas. My group sampled from a variety of all of these. The portion sizes(especially for the burritos) are huge and we ended up taking about half of the food home. For the burritos, the red sauce is slightly smoky and spicy which I really like. The green sauce has a very nice tangy tomatillo flavor which my friend really liked. The burritos are stuffed with all sorts of good things including black beans, cilantro, and onions. The enchiladas were slightly disappointing, they needed a little something else but I’m not sure what. The tacos were very good with all the fixings and served with a side of lime. Both the tacos and enchilada came with rice and black beans. I thought the chicken dishes were very good and the al pastor was excellent(comes with pineapple, so slightly on the sweeter side). I did not care much for the grilled steak as a protein option, it was a bit on the dry side. My only complaint is the layout of the building makes the front entrance really crowded. It is a bottleneck of people ordering, people coming in/out, and people trying to get their drinks. If the drink machine could be moved elsewhere it may help with the traffic flow. Also, it would be nice to have a menu available elsewhere beside the front counter, maybe another posted in the front window for people who are waiting? But in general, good food, good prices, and quality ingredients.

Well this was a pleasant surprise! My brother said they have good al pastor(which happens to be my favorite meat). So I was like alright Ill go… and guess what… they were freaking delicious! 2 dollars for a taco but theres a lot of freakin meat, and tasty sauces and bippity boppity boo! The nachos were delicious and gave a nice spicy mix from the al pastor tacos. This is great because there is no wait and things go rather quickly! My one complaint… you parents. You say you hate how much people tell you how to parents your kids… because you suck at parenting. You say, «i cant give into my kids because they wont learn discipline…» but you are willing to ruin other peoples dining experience? thankfully i order it to go, because when i saw the kid lick the salt shaker i figured… probably not the best. so parents… if your kid is too wild? keep them the eff away from public areas… i dont remember being involved in the decision to create the child. end rant. THEVERDICT: order it to go or you will probably have to deal with idiots and their kids. But their meat is delicious, their cheese is on point… just trust me, get some yummy tacos and get away and enjoy a nice sunset to end your hectic day.

Did I come here on a bad day? Everyone rave about how great the food is but I ended up with ok-taste Al Pastor tacos and all the meat are tough and dry. The only thing I enjoyed was a giant fresh mango juice and service is quick when it was pretty busy. I am not sure if I will drive all the way up there for authentic Mexican food. The street taco carts which are few minutes walk from my house were better than this.

Really good food; every single thing our party of five ordered was well-seasoned, fresh and vibrant. Their prices are reasonable, but not rock-bottom which is good because it means they’re running a tight ship business-wise. We got free soft drinks because it was our first visit, and possibly because I was complaining so loudly that the whole restaurant has only one menu. That’s right, ONE, for the entire place. It is a giant mat printed out and laid flat on the counter in front of the register. I would have been happy with a few half-sheets on office paper even, created in Word 98, but no. How about hanging one OVER the register so when you’re balls deep in line you can think about what you want? Nah. They are content to have a giant cluster of human bodies pressed together in their diminuative dining area/ordering counter, because only the ones at the very front can actually see what it is this place offers. Ok, whatever, I may cry a little but I can handle the pressure. When we finally got the order in and hit the patio it was divine. Plenty of seating, fresh air, and a kinda neat Chunga’s logo on a big green fence. There were misters hanging in front of the patio door as well to cool you down. Finally, self serve refills on soda which is awesome if you like to mix your own. I am so full of ¾ Sprite ¼ Orange right now I could vomit in joy.

I’ve been looking for good Mexican food in Salt Lake that is comparable to El Mexiquense in American Fork. Red Iguana just doesn’t quite fit what I want, and the wait usually is awful, so I was glad to stumble upon Chungas. It’s just a quick drive from downtown! The food is excellent. We went with a burrito and some tacos. The variety of salsas they have are great, they give you chips as well, and the food came out nice and fast. The portions were big, the price was cheap, and the restaurant was cleaner than one would expect. The chipotle salsa was especially good, I smothered my burrito with that. I really enjoyed my meal and this is now my go to Mexican food in SLC.

Awesome fast casual restaurant. First time here and we are lovers of Mexican food. This place did not disappoint. The menu is hard to see(while you are waiting to order) but the staff is awesome at helping you select something delicious. We ordered al pastor tacos and an al pastor burrito. It came with chips and salsa, for dine in. The chips were perfect and the salsa was delicious. It came with a tomatillo ranch salsa too. The tacos and burrito were amazing. Loved the fresh pineapple inside the burrito. The smothered burrito sauce was tasty. Great portion size. Single tacos $ 2 each. The burrito was $ 7, extra $ 1 for enchilada style. We will definitely come back here! We asked another customer what she was eating because it looked amazing. She had a chicken quesadilla on a large corn tortilla, definitely want to try that.
