Been here over 10 times. Benihana trio like evrerytime. Chicken was barely overcooked last time, I’ve never had anything to complain about. 2nd favorite restaurant in SLC.

We went here on V-day and had a pretty good experience. My one complaint is that it’s so HOT in there! I don’t like how small the grills/tables are compared to Tepanyaki. Service was great and on top of everything despite being crazy busy. Our chef was less than enthused to be there. He seemed as if we were the last table of his long 12 hour shift and it showed. My boyfriend likes it here but I still prefer Tepanyaki. Same amount of food, but a little less expensive!

They treated customers very badly and they do not care about their reputation and their customers as well even if the customers drive far away just to reach Benihana restaurant, what has happened, We just reached to Benihana but they told us they cannot serve us unless we have reservation and they did not mention that on Unilocal so thanks a lot Benihana

This location was different than others I’ve been to in other cities. The service was great but sauces differed from other locations. It was entertaining as usual but the food didn’t have much flavor.

I had a $ 30 off birthday coupon, which is definitely worth signing up for, so we came here for that. The food itself is good nothing incredible but definitely good. We both ordered off of the teppanyaki style menu. The meat was good but it was cooked a little more rare than medium rare but it is hard to get that medium rare when you are doing so many things at the same time. What I liked most about this experience is how they treated us. On top of giving you $ 30 off for your birthday, they will also give you free ice cream, which is not much but it definitely adds points. They pay attention to detail and do little things to make you feel more special. Also know that if you do not like sitting by strangers, this may not be the best place.

What a wonderful dinning experience. Enjoyed the atmosphere immensely and the food was delicious. I had the samurai treat and the sushi sampler. Best sushi I’ve ever eaten. The staff was polite and helpful.

Great service and the lunch specials are such a value for the amount of food that is served. I would definitely recommend the yakisoba.

Just went to Benihana for a work«team event» so there were 7 of us all around the same hibachi table. This location is really cool, it is in a historic sort of old building with a lot of really cool features, and the restaurant is spread over multiple floors giving it a really cool charming feel. The staff was pretty nice, and I especially appreciated that our server took orders from and served all of the ladies before serving the men, just a nice touch! Our chef was very pleasant but probably my main reason for giving them 3 instead of 4 stars due to his lack of enthusiasm and the normal tricks and niceties that teppanyaki chefs normally offer/perform. The only«trick» he performed was the classic onion volcano, but he didn’t do anything else cool or funny, no tricks with the eggs or the rice, no other flames or fire. This was mainly an issue for me because I happened to be the organizer of said event, and several people on the team had never been to Benihana or to any teppanyaki restaurant before, and thus were very excited to get a show. It may have still been fun or satisfying just to have the food prepared in front of you, but the servers I have had previously at Benihana’s have been better, though still not anywhere as good as those at local competitors like«Bonsai». Another issue with this particular visit is that the portion sizes were smaller than I have seen here before, we all left still a bit hungry and several of us made«jokes» of wanting to stop by somewhere and grab a burger on our way back to work. The rice bowl was about the only one that was filled to the top, while even the soup bowls were awkwardly under-filled, we all got much less veggies than I would expect and the sizes of the meats other than the one person who got the new York steak were also quite small. What food we did get was delicious as usual, all well cooked and tasty. The soup and rice are my particular favorite, but my chicken and scallops were quite tasty as well. I likely would not eat here again, only because for the price and such I think you can get better Teppanyaki elsewhere with better portion sizes and a more entertaining show. I wouldn’t protest going if people I was with wanted to go, or if a work event was planned there again, but if I was doing the planning id probable do Lucky 13 or something like we usually do.

If you have the $ 30 printed off bday certificate… not too shabby. High quality food, they cut the chicken breast in half so… be ready for that. They put on a good show and they make funny jokes. Or maybe it was me making the funny jokes… I don’t really remember. Don’t forget, if you dont have a party of 8 you will be sharing the table with someone. Thankfully the people we sat with thought i was a delight. I put on a really good act i guess… i think benihana owes me money. Anyways the act is exactly the same everywhere. You got the volcano onion… and besides that nothing that makes you go WOW! But the food is decent if you dont have a certificate it will be about $ 30 a person. By the way that is insane! THEVERDICT: you will smell like fried food afterward. So if you like that… you should definitely go, I love that smell. I would have given this place 2 stars, but you know the ladies love a nice little fried smell. oh wait… no they dont. but hey… look at their wall, michael jordan went there once and michael jackson… so yeah. nice talking to you.

Excellent service & fare at Benihana’s, although they apparently do not toss the shrimp in your mouth at this location. Good as a team building hang. GOTEAM #10!!!

Update time and they gained a star. Service has improved and it seems they work together helping each other out. Food is always good and I usually have left overs for tomorrow. I love the different sauces they give you. Sushi is really good too. Its a great place for a first date or a birthday. My 17 month old loves it here because of the show. Parking is a rough even tho they validate you for parking in the structure its still going to cost you money. Another negative and the biggest pet peeve of mine is this place lacks ventilation. You will be coming out smelling of food.

Neat décor when you walk into the restaurant. This place was a bar/dine in location. My friend and I ordered the Steak Sashimi, Chili Shrimp Roll, Gotham Roll and Yellow Tail Sashimi. The rolls were beautiful! However, in terms of taste, while most were good, the sashimi were slightly less fresh in comparison to other places. However, for the creativity, location and price — I think it was pretty decent.(We went during Happy Hour) I would go back just to try the other rolls, but its not somewhere I would go regularly. In terms of service, it was fine. Courteous, polite and quick.

This was our favorite place to come for birthday dinners with friends when I was in high school because the honored guest got a free meal. It’s a nice, but dated, restaurant. Good food though and entertaining. Parking can be iffy.

It’s a chain store, so been to one been to all. So why do I even bother to come here? Because it’s become more tradition of a must visit location. The service is excellent and the food is consistent quality. Personally we never even bother with the Teppanyaki, for us it’s the first floor dining of sushi and rolls and lots of drinking. Recommend for casual dining and fun.

Benihana is a staple in my dinner rotation and we usually forego the hibachi-grill-table-show-entertainment. Instead, we pick the 1st floor seating by the sushi bar, no bells and whistles. Here’s why! — Bonzai Hour: Not very many people are aware that between the hours of 4−8PM every day of the week(except Sunday), Benihana offers a menu of half priced and discounted sushi rolls and apps. This is our sole reason for coming to Benihana. We can stop by and spend around $ 30 bucks for a few rolls and hibachi rice which make us feel so sneaky. — Consistency in service: We have never had to wait for a table. We normally sit at the bar. Tetsuyana and Pemba are the sushi masters at Benihana along with the sweet server Ai. They remember your likes, your dislikes, and are always so happy when they see you stop by again. — Their $ 30 birthday certificate-it’s the reason most people come and if you don’t know about it, now you do. Sign up for their customer birthday coupon. Worth it. Honorable mention: Their sushi classes. Occasionally Benihana will throw sushi classes where they walk you through the technique of making sushi properly, where to buy the fish, cooking the rice, and even how to delicately slather soy sauce on your sushi without overdoing it. It’s not too pricey and you get a meal out of it!

Benihana on a budget? –an oxymoron, as Benihana always puts a big hole in the wallet. Well, maybe not always. I was walking on the side streets of Salt Lake city one morning and came across a sign next to Benihana saying Dinner for 2 sushi special: Soup, salad, California roll and 6 other rolls for $ 26! Now I’m not a big sushi fan, but my wife, attending a convention in town, can’t get enough sushi. Marriage is a set of compromises, and sometimes you have to think of what the other half wants –besides, she earns more than me! We come back at 5pm that evening, and the sign is gone! I go inside, with a large group of people waiting, and inquire with the host, if the deal is still on. He consults with the manager, and says yes, come on in, in spite of my collarless shirt, shorts, and women’s Chaco sandals. This Benihana fronts an alley, away from the main streets, and so they need all the publicity they can get We are seated, away from the bar, smart phone with camera visible. The hostess asks if we want our picture taken together. Sure why not? She checks it out, and points the smart phone at us, clicks and gets a blur. Not enough light, requiring adjusting the lighting icon on the camera screen. I do some adjusting, and the hosts tries again. Same blurry result –what do you expect with a Chinese and then Japanese trying a Korean made smart phone! The hostess shows us the discount menu, not publicized outside, with the limited selection of eligible rolls –no lobster, nor the other expensive rolls included –hey they have to make money somehow! Service is prompt, with the miso soup, and then the salad, with some sour tasting orange dressing, unlike any Japanese dressing we have ever tasted –taste like they ran out of Japanese dressing and substituted Mexican dressing from the Blue Iguana Mexican restaurant downstairs! The hostess brings a huge plate with 7 sushi rolls. The California roll is Ok in texture, but the crab is tasteless. Ditto the raw salmon on the Alaska roll –but my wife who is a sushi connoisseur, loves the raw salmon, and the spicy tuna eel roll. There is also a Philly roll with cream cheese mixed with eel and salmon –never heard of a sushi roll with cream cheese, and hope to never taste it again. One sushi roll that I really love is the Crunchy shrimp roll, which has cooked shrimp –not a true sushi roll says the wife. Ok, we forgo the dinner show that comes with the standard Benihana meal, and get out of there for $ 26 for 7 sushi rolls. My wife is placated for the moment. You expected fresh seafood sushi in Salt Lake City, 800 miles from the coast? Dream on!

It may be an overpriced chain, but I love me some Benihana. No, seriously. There are many restaurants I love, but for some reason I crave Benihana. The soup, the delightfully grilled meats, the fried rice. Lawd, the fried rice. There are few things better than that wonderfully inauthentic, garlic butter-slathered cup of goodness. Sometimes I think if I could just come here and have a huge thing of that fried rice without feeling completely disgusted with myself, I would. The price? Maybe a little high. The service? Hit or miss. Having to have awkward conversation with the other people at your table? Ehhh. But it is totally worth it for the grilled food, the dorky show(show me your onion volcano!), and yes, of course, the fried rice. Benihana: always and forever.

Benihana is similar to other Japanese hibachi grill places, so you won’t be disappointed if that’s the experience you’re looking for. There’s a vast menu of different types of meats or combinations you can choose from, and everything is priced per person. I went with a combo that had shrimp, scallops and calamari and chose noodles for an extra charge. The meal starts out with an onion soup which I thought was a little bland this time around, but it wasn’t bad. Then there’s the salad course which is a simple bowl of lettuce and carrots topped with a Japanese ginger dressing. The hibachi chef then comes out and does an introduction with a few knife tricks and starts to prepare the veggies and meat while making a show out of the process. It’s super cheesy, but entertaining at the same time. If it’s your birthday, they’ll sing and play drums and provide some complimentary ice cream.

Without trying to sound both racist and sexist… I was hoping for a more authentic experience when our Latina chef started cooking our teppanyaki dinner. The food was delicious and properly cooked but no shrimp was tossed and she spoke in a faux oriental accent which seemed strange. If your celebrating a birthday, you’ll get free ice cream and a complimentary Benihana paper framed picture along with the embarrassment that comes from poor singing and a loud drum.

Benihana is a chain. And Benihana is overpriced. But they have an awesome birthday discount if you get on their email list and the food is great. I honestly have never bad a bad experience here. The sushi is great. The chicken fried rice is to die for. The filet and shrimp are perfectly cooked and flavorful. I love the grilled onion and mushrooms. The service is always attentive and the chefs do a good job. It’s a fun place to go once or twice a year for a birthday or special occasion or with kids. My kids are always mesmerized by the show the entire time. One tip… we tried to go on a Thursday night for my birthday without a reservation. Bad idea. There was a convention going on downtown and when we walked into the restaurant it looked like they were about to self destruct. An hour wait, angry people everywhere, the hostess being snippy, the sushi counter shut down… we turned around and walked out. So id say… call ahead. We came the next week with a reservation and everything went great!
