So sad. This place used to be a favorite spot of mine but has gone down hill fast. Great bar and location but the food is struggling. Stopped in for a few apps recently, nothing fancy(buffalo tenders and potato skins), tasted like they came out of the freezer! It’s too bad, new management is clearly struggling.

Went here for an 80th bday dinner. Place is very casual, no need to dress up. Sat outside on the deck on a beautiful day. View was so so… we were entertained by idiots trying to park in the parking lot more than anything else, but you could see some water and boats beyond that. Menu has wide variety to please most, fish, of course, steak, pasta, chicken dishes. Dinners were only okay. $ 22 «jumbo» shrimp plate served FIVE medium sized fried shrimp. Grilled shrimp, same. Portions were small on most plates. That’s what bothered me the most. Food was pretty good though, about what you’d get at say the 99’s. But we waited what felt like 45 min for dinner. Good thing i had a large martini to sip while I waited:/ That was delicious. Other than drink, not so impressed. Not a horrible place, but i’ve had better, for sure. 2 stars due to small portions, long wait for food. Prob wouldn’t go again. 8 people, 2 children dinners, plus drinks, bill was $ 350 including tip.

I was not eager to go to a place that was nearly empty when the surrounding restaurants were packed on this beautiful day but I thought I would try it. I soon learned why. I ordered the large sea scallop dinner and after I was given the clam dinner first I waited for my correct order and was given scallops that were inedible and tiny. Sent them back. Salad bar was horrible. Dried up iceberg lettuce or the dried up mixed greens? Tough choice. Soup barely passed. I left, with an earful of apologies.nice.Now I know why it was nearly empty on a beautiful evening.

I started coming here on Friday nights because they have Tony Bee Karaōke: off-season and after-dark(View? What view?). I sing well(I used to sing professionally) and have actually been developing some fans there. When I sing, the manager comes out, stands at the far end of the bar, and glumly stares at me but has never said a word. Each time I have marveled at how few customers were there. He may be one of the reasons – zero cordiality. Waitstaff is eager to serve but spread very thin. The bartender, CJ, is attentive and happy… and knows all about the menu. He remembers our drinks and starts making them when we arrive – with a BIG smile. What a contrast. My friend and I have eaten there each time. Prices are«up there» but not outrageous. I myself have eaten the Grilled Tuna, Sesame Tuna appetizer, Giant Lobster Roll, Lobster Cakes, and Grilled Salmon – all very fresh and cooked perfectly. Onion rings looked wonderful, but had sat around too long waiting for the rest of the food and were cool and hard. Salad bar is maybe not a good idea when you consider how few diners are there – I didn’t partake, but wasn’t impressed with what I saw on others’ plates. Previous owners had more success with it. Maybe on-season it will turn around often enough to be fresher. Portions in general are reasonable, but the Prime Rib is humongous. You will leave full. The cook aims to please and went out of his way to say hello when he got off duty and inquire if I was pleased with my meal. I was. The place itself is COLD. The wrap-around windows radiate it, and the baseboard heaters(which should counter it well) are not working. Off-season, wear a layer or two. I think management doesn’t know what to do with the place and is just waiting for the tourist overflow from Newburyport to start. That is too bad. It could develop a year-round following if everything was right.

Feel like I spent a week there this afternoon. We heard there was new management thought we’d give it a try. Expectations were fairly low and the service didn’t even achieve that low bar! Food was ok. If there isn’t new management there should be. First and last time this season.

All the food came out at different times. Cost of 3 burgers, with salad bar and 3 soda’s. 66 dollars… really?! I would at least expect the burgers to be cooked correctly and good for that amount.

I’m still not even sure why I tried a second visit here, but my second one was equally as horrible as the first. The same miserable blonde lady in her late 50’s tending bar, with absolutely zero people skills. Both visits I was alone at the bar and STILL took forever to even be greeted or acknowledged in any way. Let alone the wait for a beer. There won’t be a 3rd strike here. I’m done with Stripers

The best view in Newburyport isn’t in Newburyport but looks on the city. Generally good food, salad bar, drink servings and friendly helpful wait staff, stripers could be a local treasure if it was more consistent. The salad bar is hit and miss but when it’s good it’s good; it’s just bad a lot or when I come. Last time I was here I had the lobster roll and thought it was weak and overpriced. Wife just got one and it is fantastic.

Ate there today for lunch with family. We were a bit late meeting some people and they were very accommodating. Server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Meal was at a good pace-never felt rushed or neglected. Food was good– I got the surf and turf special-sirloin was a perfect medium as I ordered it and the scallops were good-a bit more butter than I would need, but did not detract from the taste overall. The salad bar was a little sparse, but enough for a starter salad with my meal. The view was AMAZING-a perfect day to sit outside. They even moved our table when we were getting a bit too much sun. Overall, a pleasant lunch I would definitely recommend.

Our first visit under the new owner was extremely unpleasant so my review reflected that. The owner offered a gift card and a nice message to us but we don’t want anything for free so we passed. We did go back a few time and were very pleased. Great view, food was very good. We will continue to go to Back. Thanks for the message!

My friend took me here last night. Parking lot was packed, but we got seated immediately. I got the Lobster cakes(DELISH), and he got the stripers burger, which is huge. He said it was also very good. Our waitress was great. Definitely want to go back.

Great view and great waitress and if you want quantity over quality that’s what you get. Italian/seafood options It’s basically ok but be prepared to be underwhelmed the mussels even had Parmesan on them and an odd smelling broth. Swordfish overlooked it’s as expensive as much better places in Newburyport as well so we will not be going back. pleased to receive acknowledgement from owner hope they can continue to improve as the location is prime.

Absolutely terrible. Sticky floors, pathetic salad bar with 5 pieces of brown lettuce, medium steak tips that were served well done and tasted like a hockey puck, friend clams that were loaded with sand. No wonder this place closed down. I imagine it will happen again soon. Stay away!

I have always thought this place is gross so I don’t feel like she missed out, but we went for a big party there. The wife could only eat a salad since she has a gluten allergy and apparently they don’t even want to attempt to accommodate someone with an allergy. What a joke. Their service was awful and they proved that to over 60 of our local family members today. Bad move. Try to figure out how to cook gluten free. It’s called baked instead of fried, sans the bread crumbs. It’s not hard, it was just pure laziness.

We came here for lunch as Newburyport was packed and we are glad we made the trek over the bridge No line no waiting plenty of outdoor seating. Great view. My husband had tasty clam chowder and A freshly made lobster roll with plenty of meat. He loved it. I had a burger and salad bar that had lots of options including fresh fruit We will come back!

My husband and I bought a dinner for 2 Groupon, we went on Saturday night to give it a try. We both ordered one of their specials the 14oz New York sirloin with crab legs, it was AMAZING!!! The staff was super friendly, the service was great and the update décor was cheerful, we will definitely be back. I heard they had a rough start so we were a little afraid but rest assure it was very good and the prices were reasonable Give them a try you won’t be sorry

Place was empty when we walked in and there is s reason. There were 9 of us and nearly everyone thought the food was bad. Baked haddock was tasteless. The steak was not good. The seafood plater was just as bad as the hadock. Do not eat here.

Updated review. I haven’t even received my food yet and I am so mad I want to leave and if I wasn’t so hungry I would. The blonde bartender is either a mean woman or just doesn’t like the way I look since she has been rude from the minute I walked in. It took me forever to get my drink in a dirty glass and to ask a simple question about accommodating my food allergy. When I did attempt to order, after being barked at «know what ya want», she just walked away and I wasn’t sure if I had ordered or she was checking if they could accommodate me. I had a thousand other choices after working today but I chose here since I hadn’t been here in a while and it was decent last time. Boy was that a bad mistake! The new bartender took over and so far she has been nice but that woman. Wow. If I wasn’t so darn hungry I would have left and never come back. Oh now she’s cutting fruit and slamming things in front of me. Wow. The owners need to deal with this one. I won’t be back for a long long time if ever. I hope the food won’t make me sick. ETA: Fish overcooked and burnt on the bottom. Squash a mushy mess. Yeah except for Kimmy the new bartender who took over for the rude first one I would rate this zero if I could. Kimmy deserves a job elsewhere better suited. Definitely won’t be back. Too many other great options.

This place has great potential, but over the years it has had difficulty with management. The location is it’s greatest asset. It’s located right across from Newburyport, and has great views of the city and the waterfront. The biggest issue with this place used to be one of the reason’s it was great. The salad bar, which should be seen as an asset(and I am sure the ownership and management do see it as an asset) is actually their biggest flaw. The salad bar ingredients are low quality and obviously are not fresh. Wilted lettuce, browning cucumbers, these are just few of the highlights. Honestly, it sets up the night with a bad start. I think until more people start eating here again, they should cut the bar and work on small high quality salads. Other than that the food was not that bad. I got a lobster roll was well portioned and the fries were tasty. The lobster roll was a little disappointing, because it came out unseasoned(basically just mayo), but I added salt and pepper and that made all the difference. My mother’s Fish and Chips, which I thought was fried really well, not greasy and golden brown, once again was a little under seasoned, but the tarter sauce made up for that in some ways. The beer menu was good and from the taste was fresh. The service is great the waitress I had was kind and check on us often. I asked to substitute my fries for a salad bar, and they still brought me fries anyway for no extra charge. This was nice, especially because the fries were great. I think if the owners focus on the quality of their food, this place can do well. And I hope it does.

Under new ownership(the owner of Roma in Haverhill) as we understood so we bought the groupon for 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. Dined on a Saturday early evening(around 5 pm) and the restaurant and bar were dead. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and our waiter came by fairly quickly too. He was very helpful and friendly. The special of the day was a queen or king cut prime rib which was included as one of the groupon entrees… all entrees and apps were included in the offer. If it weren’t for the groupon apps, we probably would have skipped them. We ordered the shrimp cocktail(5 fairly large shrimp) and the chicken tenders. The shrimp was OK, a few kinda tasteless as was the cocktail sauce. The chicken tenders came battered and fried, very tender but we would have preferred grilled, with a side of marinara sauce which was also somewhat tasteless. Unlimited salad bar(including soup — tomato bisque and rolls) was included. The salad bar was ok, nothing special. Clean and filled but it was also early in the evening. Our meals arrived in a decent amount of time. I chose the seafood casserole(shrimp, haddock, lobster and scallops) with fries and the hubby, the king cut prime rib. The seafood casserole was very hot and I requested light bread crumbs but it came with what I would consider a lot of bread crumbs. The scallops were terrific but the lobster and haddock had a funny taste. Shrimp OK. Fries were very hot and crispy, didn’t appear greasy but you could taste it going down. Prime rib was requested medium but came a bit rare so the waiter took it back. It came back out in about 5 minutes and though it just came back out from the oven, hubby said it wasn’t hot. He thought it was somewhat tough. I took a few bites and thought it needed some seasoning but I’m not a huge fan of prime rib. The prime rib did include a side of starch(rice, mashed or baked potatoe or fries) but hubby opted to skip the starch. Total excluding tip without a groupon would have been $ 80 which is pricey for a sub-par meal. Service was great, food, not so much. Probably won’t return but glad we tried it!
