Furey’s Old Town Barber

Don’t live here but I almost wish I did just for Lelyn. She is absolutely the best barber I’ve ever had. Takes her time but isn’t slow, finds out what you want, makes it happen. If you go anywhere else you are missing out! To top it all off she’s cool and funny– qualities some barbers just don’t have. Do yourself a favor and go see her. You won’t regret it.

We came to Lelyn Furey because she’s open on Sundays and because she has great Unilocal reviews. We don’t live in Salinas, so it will be a long time before we come back, but we will make a point of it if we are back in town. My son has a lot of hair and has a traditional men’s haircut as some college students have these days. She did an excellent job on him using the trimmer/​comb and scissors, fading in the back and making sure it was exactly what he wanted. She’s obviously very knowledgeable, specializes in men’s haircuts, and is really pleasant person to work with. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Probably the best hair cut I’ve ever received. I had been getting my hair cut by the same stylist for the last 5 years. I was in desperate need of someone new to cut my hair! Lelyn did an amazing job. I’m very picky about my hair and when I find someone I like, I stick with them for years. I’ll be returning for sure! Support your local barber!

What a great place! I had been letting my beard grow out and came in to get it trimmed and a nice clean cut! She recommended beard oil and I have not stop using it ever since! Lelyn is awesome and I highly recommend you make an appointment, she is a busy woman!

Just started working in salinas and needed a haircut, so thought I would check this place out. What a great find! A great location in old town salinas. You know once you walk in it’s going to be a great haircut– the old building is cool, the place has style. But– most importantly — you are in expert hands as Lelyn masterfully shapes your head of hair! Best haircut I have had in a very long time. Great customer service too! She was able to squeeze me in at the last minute!

Excellent experience in a fun atmosphere. Lelyn did a great job on both my son and and me. She is a pleasure to chat with and the little perks (razor neck shave, beer, back massage) are nice surprises. The prices are great and if you are unsure what you want, she will make a great suggestion. She is only available a few days per week, however so spread the word so she’ll be able to free up more days. The $ 40 for $ 30 Unilocal deal is awesome too. Thanks Lelyn.

It’s refreshing when a barber actually takes the essential time for a proper cut and shave. I was very pleased with Lelyn’s approach. I went in for the purpose of getting only a razor shave but ended up getting a haircut as well. During the cut she made sure to keep me in the loop so there would be no unexpected surprises. The shave was amazing and shockingly I could barely even tell she was shaving my face. No cuts or scrapes reported. The hot towels were relaxing; almost put me to sleep. The only downside is that she is open only on the weekends. I definitely recommend going in for a cut and shave.

Furey’s Old Town Barber has opened its doors, their arrival breathes a missed, and widely welcomed, life into Salinas’ Old Town Quarter. An area once known for catering mostly to out of town interests and keeping a ‘when it’s convenient’ schedule is wise to welcome Furey’s accessible and no detail overlooked business style. Walking in the front door to the familiar sight of a Koken barber’s chair and a straight blade razor on the counter, while the smell of shaving lathers and pomades swirl, you know you have made a wise decision.
My two visits have come on unseasonably warm days and the cold beverage greeting is a much welcomed respite from the heat. The cuts are meticulous and every care is taken to help you achieve the look you are aiming for. My hair line had been misshaped from an experience at another cattle like operation across town, the barber expertly explained my options, as well as short and long run alternatives to triage the situation. A few weeks later I was in again and glad to hear I was well on my way to recovery.
If you have the time and really want to do what’s best for your face, make sure to inquire about the straight blade shave. It’s a rare old world treat that not too many places offer. I’ve sought out these services from Hong Kong to New York and Furey’s delivers on par with best of them.
Furey’s is a much welcome addition to Salinas and I can’t wait to see their business boom. Just hope they remember I was here in the beginning …
