If you’re looking for a bus line to get you from Salem to Bend, then Valley Retriever may be your best option. Unfortunately, their website provides very little information and I have never been able to reach anyone on their phone — I just get the same recorded message every time. So hopefully this will help. Valley Retriever runs buses between Newport and Bend, but if you’re trying to get to and from Salem, then you have only one option a day. The bus from Salem leaves at around 7:55 and arrives in Bend around 10:40. That same bus then turns around about 15 minutes later to go back to Salem. That’s it. If you miss the bus, you’ll need to wait another day. The tickets are $ 42 each way. Tickets must be purchased from the Greyhound counter at the stations. During busy times, you’ll want to make sure you buy your ticket early as the buses aren’t that big and can fill up. The bus they use is pretty old and run-down looking, but it does the trick. There is only seating for about 16 – 20 or so. There is no bathroom. The driver seemed very friendly and knows how to navigate the icy roads. On the way to Bend he stopped once for a bathroom break(at a gas station porta potty) but didn’t stop at all on the way back. Hope this info helps!
