Went in today for the first time. Pretty busy since it’s New Years Eve. I took a number and waited to be called to the counter. I was helped by a friendly blonde woman — I wish I caught her name! I described the baked brie dish that I was making for a party tonight and she pointed me in the direction of an affordable Camembert. So helpful! She really listened to what I had to say and didn’t try to push anything too pricey on me. I really appreciated her service and I look forward to coming back to the shop!

Excellent selection of charcuterie, cheese, snacks and wine. We love the fromageries in Quebec. I was really interested to see Salem’s own open. We felt the prices were reasonable for cheese and meat products, but the snacks and crackers are pricey. We are looking forward to many return visits! Convenient location with several parking options.

Beautiful, bright space. Knowledgable, friendly people. Despite just opening a few months ago, this cheese shop competes with the best around the world.

The Cheese Shop of Salem is a fine addition to the town. The cheese selection is second to none. Take a number cozy up to the cheeses of the world. No gross processed cheese here. Great beer and wine choices as well as breads, oils, vinegars, salami’s. The cheese gods and goddesses will let you sample the goods, so you make the right choice. Good cheese is not cheap so do not be put off by the price tags. I had a 3 milk Camembert that was Great! The house cheddar is a nice change from Cracker-barrel. Try it you’ll be happy you stopped in.

Finally made it here after wanting to come by for months. Overall I really liked the shop. So many unique food options as well as wine and beer. I specifically liked how big it was, giving me room to walk around and not feel claustrophobic. The two separate counters were nice as well. The only reason I’m docking a star is that I had to seek out help and they were not very busy. After reading all the other reviews I’m wondering if I went on an off night or something. I chose a wine on my own, and the guy who seemed to be the«cheese guy» was off tasting wine, so I had to wait about 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge I was waiting. The transaction was smooth and easy, but I was hoping for a bit more. I will certainly stop by again and hope to get some samples and some solid recommendations.

As soon as you walk in the door, you are struck by the smell of «stinky cheese.» Inhale deeply! This store is an excellent addition to Salem’s downtown scene and a great place to go for some every day cheese(like feta or gorgonzola) or special occasion cheese(like rupert or brie). The selection of cheeses is extensive and the staff is knowledgeable. They are very generous with samples, so if you’re curious about something ask for a taste. They also have an extensive selection of beer and wine(I’d like to see a more moderately priced port) and«hostess gifts,» such as butters, ice cream toppings, fig preserves, cornichons, olive pâté, and the like. They also have unusual foods from Europe. If you need a last-minute something to bring to a party, you can come here, grab a jar of a specialty food and be on your way. After having bought a few things here, I will probably be back during the holidays for celebratory items. I plan to buy one of their cheese platters at some point and do a cheese tasting at home. I’m sure they will have terrific recommendations as always!

How have I not yet written a review?! This cheese shop is exactly what Salem needs. The staff and customer service is awesome. They always help me as soon as possible, giving me suggestions along the way. Last time I was in an older gentleman helped me put together 2 cheese plates for the weekend. I was so impressed. My favorite had to be the fresh marinated cheese that came soaked in herbed, garlic olive oil. My guests highly enjoyed the aged gouda. What’s not to love about going in a trying before you buy. I will be back. Probably for life. Tip: Come here and put together a plate and then head to Far from the Tree to have cheese and cider. If you’re not in the mood to hit up the cider brewery, don’t worry The Cheese Shop also sells their cider among other awesome beers and wines.

Amazing! After a visit to Salem, walking by and our son convinced us to stop in. Well worth the visit. Staff was top notch, selection of cheese, wine and meats… amazing! Found a Cabernet Franc which rounded out a delicious cheese plate. Don’t walk by this one!

We live in Somerville, but it is well worth the drive to go to this lovely new shop. We were happy to be able to attend the soft opening a few weeks ago. The wine selection is superb, Susan(the beverage director) has a lot of knowledge and hand selects each wine, so you really can’t go wrong with your purchase. My husband, a beer connoisseur also enjoyed the brew selection. All of the people involved in the business are very passionate and honest people from the owner to the cheesemonger. Highly recommend!

Foodie paradise on the North Shore! The just opened Cheese Shop of Salem is a beautiful store staffed by an all-star team of experts in wine, cheese, gourmet foods, and more. There are plenty of wines to choose from at all price ranges, a great beer selection, and, of course, cheese! I was cautiously optimistic when I heard about this place opening, but my expectations were far exceeded by the store, staff, and offerings. The very large cheese counter is staffed by knowledgeable employees who are more than willing to let you try before you buy. There’s also some great gourmet foods ranging from spicy honey to specialty pasta and cookies. On Fridays and Saturdays they have wine and beer tastings with folks who really know their stuff. This place truly has it all, so be sure to check it out when you’re in the area. I’m wishing them all the success in the world going forward.
