A few days ago I was researching Tan Republic in response to a collections letter I received from them in the mail recently. I read a one star review by a girl stating that she had received a letter that sounded similar to mine. I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who has gotten a false collections letter. I guess this in TRs way of continuing to show their true colors by scamming people. Last year in January 2015 I went into a Tan Republic location to update my credit card information and to also freeze my account as I was leaving the country for an unknown amount of time. A few months later I got an email from Tan Republic stating that my credit card had been declined for several months and I owed them an outrageous amount of money! Now some back story to this is that in February 2015(one month after i had changed my card info at TR) my credit card I was traveling with had been cancelled due to fraud and because I was in Brazil I was unable receive a new card. This was the card that Tan Republic was taking $ 10 a month from for my account while frozen. Because I was out of the country I was unable to go into a TR location and update the card. Also with all the stress with trying to deal with my bank from another country I had forgotten that TR was even using the card that was cancelled. So it was my fault for not contacting them right away. However, when I did finally get an email from TR stating my card had been declining the amount that they said I owed them was the amount for an active count. The amount obviously took me by surprise considering my account was supposed to be frozen. I sent an email back to the generic email address and explained to them that my account should have been on hold and I also was out of the country and was unable to come in and update my card information. A manager emailed me back and told me when I was back in the country I could come in and take care of things. So in July 2015 when I came back to Salem I went into the downtown location in Liberty Plaza and spoke with the manager about my situation. I also took in my passport to prove to her I had been out of the country for the last 6 months. At that time she was willing to wave my past due balance due to the whole misunderstanding. So I left Tan Republic that day with the understanding that I was no longer a member with them and my account balance has been settled at Zero. Now, almost a year later, I’m getting a letter in the mail saying I owe them over well over $ 100 and am being sent to Transworld for debt collection. This makes me extremely unhappy as I was told the matter was settled over a year ago. I was glad they were willing to work with me last year but am very angry that this point to know that the matter apparently either wasn’t settled or I am being scammed. Considering I’m not the only who has received a letter like when it’s been a year or more since they have even been in a TR location proves to me that it is a scam for money. I was never overly happy with the costumer service experience I received when I was a member there and now with all of this happening it has made up my mind that I will never return back to their services in the future. I suggest anyone looking to tan with them to keep a close eye on their account activity and especially their wallets before they get rapped from mysterious charges.

The employee called a few hours after this experience and very genuinely apologized. It take a really strong person to call and apologize. Serious props to her. That apology was a huge redemption for this specific Tan Republic, but then the owner of the business commented on my Unilocal review and was entirely sarcastic and rude. Kind of a closed book now. In no way do I regret leaving my review because you get to see the real colors of the people of the company.

Without a doubt, this Tan Republic is THEEBEST!!! Not only are the girls that work here very easy on the eyes, but they are also extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. I love how they remember my name and almost always have a bed available. It’s also important to note that the TR is VERY clean! That along with what I have already mentioned, make this TR the best in town!
