I purchased a few bars of soap here, and overall I’m not impressed. They’re a bit pricey at $ 5 a bar. They smell nice, but really leave no scent on your skin afterwards, which is great if you don’t want it too, but not if that’s kind of why you bought it in the first place. Also, not moisturizing enough to not need lotion.

SLAB has magic soap!!! My husband had really bad psoriasis for a long time and we tried so many products and medications. One day we walked into SLAB and happened to mention his condition. They fixed us right up with the proper soaps and within weeks his irritated, itchy, scaly skin was gone. We’ve been using SLAB soap for years now. Every time my husband tries to use other soaps his skin gets irritated again.

This soap is all I use now! They have great guy type soaps as well! I go for Irish Tweed, Musk, Sandlewood & Aloe. If you get on their email list & purchase the soaps online, there is usually a special.

I was a customer for three years, but had a horrible experience and have made the switch to a different soap maker. The soap is usually good, but the customer service is lacking. So, I had received a 20% off online coupon, but my fiancée and I were going back East to visit her family, and was not sure the shipment would arrive before we departed. She wanted to bring some Oregon products as gifts for friends and family. We made the trip to Salem from Portland, but we were told that the coupon would not be honored — that it was for online purchases only. We were not happy so we left the store without making a purchase, but found another soapmaker in Portland’s Sellwood neighborhood, Camamu Soap. I subsequently sent an email to Slab Soap, but they did not even bother to respond. I guess customer service and product loyalty are not important to them.

I like these products! Many of the soaps all smell the same, maybe they are old or just don’t use essential oils. Not to sure. They are a great size that gives you the SLAP feel. I just cut them in half and get two bars. Yes, they do last a long time. When you call the people on the phone sometimes seem kind of not helpful and don’t seem to know what is going on with the website, how to use the website or take advantage of email promotions. They often email me 20% off promotions but they NEVER work and no one seem to help and my emails do get ignored. If they could just live up to their promotions and contact us back or answer an email I would be able to order from them more often.

Mother-in-law brought me here on a whim and I ended up buying Christmas presents for a ton of people in my family to mail back to the east coast. Great variety, and very high quality soaps. I kept the peppermint oatmeal bar for myself and am going back to pick up another bar soon. I didn’t know that bars could be this moisturizing and after about a week my back was clear of blemishes and has stayed that way. No other soap has been able to do that. A $ 5 bar has lasted me 3 months so far(I cut it up into 6 mini-bars and only take 1 at a time into the shower), and I still have plenty left in my last section. Hit this place up! Support a really awesome local business! I plan on being a life-long customer.

I ordered from Slabsoap earlier this year. I had some issues getting my shipment but it finally arrived. After several ignored emails and phone messages, I ultimately reached customer service at the retail store. They had no answering service. I wrote 2 reviews just after use. Neither were published. I’m guessing because they had constructive criticism or no one has bothered to attend that part of their website. I don’t find the soaps that special, having gone thru 10 of the twelve I bought. They are very emollient but the scents nearly all smell the same. I have been in the better fragrance industry, as well as aromatherapy(Kneipp), and I do know my scents very well. I objected to the Oregon lavender soap, as the lavender solids are very abrasive and not suitable to wash lady bits. Hardly a hint of lavender scent. I was sorry I bought 2 bars. I am very familiar with linden and their soap does not have any hint of the scent. I also dislike the size of the bars – too wide and too thin for the average hand, as well as the usual shelves where you would keep soap in a shower. They have a tendency to slide off those places. Very disappointing in general if I had paid full price.(I bought a special groupon type package)

My girlfriend and I spent way more time than was necessary one afternoon in this store. I do believe we smelled very single bar of soap that was available, until my nose was ready to fall off. But very much worth it. Handcrafted soaps, rough cut, and stacked in wood bins, you see exactly what you get, and you’ll want to get most all of it. I got a ton of Christmas stocking stuffer gift ideas, and I can’t wait to see which one my girlfriend goes to use first. The prices are a bit high, but hey, you get what you pay for, and it’s absolutely worth it. «Soap. I make and I sell soap; the yardstick of civilization.» Indeed, Tyler. Indeed.

With sensitive skin I’ve long ago narrowed my soap choices way, way down. This is now my exclusive soap! My husband loves it too. Our skin is happy, soft, and clean. With the 6 for the price of 5 we are able to each load up on 3 choices, of which there are many. Always amazed at the clerks ability to determine which soap is which so they can label them for you. At $ 5 a bar it’s not cheap but when you’re used to buying L’occtaine or other fine milled vegetable based soaps, it’s a deal!

I love their sandalwood soap, it is the only soap I have found that I can use on my face that doesn’t make my rosacea flare up. Even better than what I have gotten from the dermatologist, so a bargain at any price. My husband uses their soap also as it doesn’t dry his skin. We love this store and have always been treated very well and I appreciate their help in finding the right soap for me.

Yeah, their soap is deliciously smelling. The black cherry is the best. But in my opinion customer service is everything. And the girl at the front desk was not nice at all. My cousin also said this without me bringing it up.

Exploring downtown Salem, I found a coupon for SLAB in the local magazine guide. Then I spotted the cute shop of handmade soap nearby. I’ve been looking for some shampoo bar soap for a while now, and not wanting to go to Lush, this place was a godsend! The place reminded me of an old time museum. The wooden interior was beautiful. I ended up purchasing 4 bars of soap. Two for each of my friends, and two for me. The variety was great! It was fun picking and choosing the right scent, texture, & ingredient. The prices were the best I’ve seen around, too. A good size bar would range around $ 4 to $ 6.(The shampoo bar soap was a bit more — $ 6.) And they individually wrap it up nicely, too!

If you happen to be in Oregon’s state capital then make sure you take a stroll down liberty street and check out this small gem of a soap shop. No nonsense pricing and lots of varieties of soap(even a few MAN-ly soaps with good solid outdoorsy tree smells!). Great place to stock up on local craft gifts. Putting in my request for a NW beer soap! Bought Pink Lemonade soap for my cousin. What more could you want?

Great concept, great product, great service, great variety, great business model… Everything about this business is keeping life simple. A large variety of soaps separated into simple wooden containers for $ 4.00 per bar(most). Buy 5, get one free and they certainly had my wife at «Hello»! Will be trying their mail order next…

Local handcrafted soaps in a dazzling array of scents. This simple store is no-nonsense, a solid stone floor, a simple sales counter and a variety of the featured soaps fill this small store. The soaps are displayed by scent in rows of wooden trays with the hand-made and hand-cut bars of soap. Choose from such amazing scents as Avocado Butter, Oregon Lavender, Grapefruit Oatmeal, Bay Rum & Lime, Tuscan Olive, and many many more. Bars range in price from $ 4 — $ 5 dollars. A few bars makes for a fun Oregon-grown gift.
