Took a 65 y.o. gold-plated locket in for an estimate, wanting to make it into a necklace. The locket was engraved on both sides, and I wanted access to the pictures inside. Problem was, you cannot solder a loop to gold plate. So, Roy ordered a gold bezel to encircle the locket, securely attached it to the back half of the locket and soldered on the loops for the chain. Problem solved! Can see both engraved sides, and the pictures inside as well. Very creative approach! Beautiful work in a very tiny workspace. Would definitely go to Roy for any further projects. He said it could take two weeks, but it was completed in a few days. Great job, Roy!

I was surprised reading the other reviewer’s commentary, actually. I took a gold piece that I wanted redesigned to jewelers in Corvallis, Albany and Salem. In Corvallis they wouldn’t let me speak to the goldsmith and expected me to hand over my jewelry to a counter clerk w instructions and she went back and forth asking him questions. I had one guy take my piece and damage it because it was very soft 18k gold and then still over estimated the price for repair. Mr John took jewelry tweezers to handle my piece, put on a loop and did exactly what I wanted cheaper and although he said he would have it in 2 weeks, it was ready in 1 week. I don’t want to criticize the last reviewer but maybe he didn’t make exactly clear what he wanted or made«budget» a clear indication of the work he wanted… I can’t say. I just know that I will from now on bring any of my jewelry to Mr John. My experience was great.
