A friend recommended this and it was disappointing and surprisingly expensive($ 16.95 and $ 18.95). The service was awful. It was 5 minutes before anyone came to our table after we sat down and there was no one there(one other table, period.) The meals were mediocre at best, the salsa was awful(watery and bland), and they screwed up my son’s dinner order!(Made him Chicken Ranchero instead of Beef). Mine was the Chicken mole, supposedly perfected after generations of handed down recipes. I’ve had much better. So my son had to wait while I finished mine! There was no music playing just a small TV over the bar are. Why are there NO good Mexican restaurants in all of Salem with so many to choose from?!! I won’t go back here.

While the atmosphere is lacking and the service was a joke, the food was actually really good. That’s the only thing that got them 3 stars.

Have been trying various Mexican restaurants in Salem, in search of a favorite. Recently became aware of Los Baez, which has been around for over 40 years. I tried their beef burito at lunch Thursday, and while it wasn’t bad, there was nothing exceptional about it either. It was on the skimpy side for the price, a little more generous suze would have earned a 3rd star. Their chips are freshly made and salsa is also fresh & tasty, but like a lot of places, very watery. I wouldn’t mind if they threw it in a blender to create a more consistent salsa, rather than a mixture of chunks and juices that don’t work well on a chip. The staff is friendly and welcoming, though they were very slow in delivering the check.

Not too impressed and would not return. There are too many better Mexican restaurants in Salem to waste time here. For one, try Don Miguel, or two, the Ranchero Market. The food was bland, the service fair, the portions are on the small side, especially compared to those restaurants mentioned above. Going out of business in the short term may be a blessing!

My dad and I love to have lunch here! We are from the southwest, and it was a challenge to find a Mexican-style restaurant that measured up to what we were used to, but this place really does it for us! The food is always great! I highly recommend the Wally burrito, but I’ve never ordered something off the menu here that wasn’t delicious. I also really like their salsa — made fresh daily, so it’s a little different every time, but always fantastic. In top of the excellent eats, the owner and staff are welcoming and treat you like family.

Maybe for the last time. Angel has been a great member of this town and a great friend to our family. Good luck in your next adventures.

The food here has always been very delicious in my opinion and I’ve eaten here many times. But also take into account this is not a health food restaurant — very oily high calorie food. But tasty, of course! The thing I do not like is that the service is very hit or miss. At my most recent visit I ordered fajitas. 1⁄3 of my meal was brought out at least 10 minutes earlier than the rest of my food. So I had to sit and watch my friend eat while I didn’t have a complete meal. I had to ask two different people, a total of 3 times to finally get my complete meal. And this seems to happen sort of frequently at Los Baez.

this is a two and a half to three star restaurant. eating in the bar area with a good friend of mine, the portion size is large and I believe I had an enchiladas and tamales. just good average American Mexican food. the Mexican beer that was on draft and must have been about 25 ounces. like most places it’s going to have to its ups and downs I’m sure.g. I don’t think this would be my first place to go eat Mexican food but when a friend offered to take you out and be polite and do it. that’s part of life and friends.

Usually I would give these guys a 4 star but I tried the seafood today and it was basically uneatable. The homemade flour tortillas were still delicious but I would not order shrimp here. Usually I get steak so if I return I will go back to my regular order.

Poor service, burnt tortillas, tamale had no meat, chilli relleno was a blob of soggy cold unmelted cheese, and it was expensive. We won’t be back.

So many thumbs up! I love this place. This family owned business has the most excellent food and great wait staff. I love everything that I have had on the menu. I went there for lunch today and got their standard very consistent off the chart well seasoned chicken. I love that they don’t put black pepper in the salsa like one of their competitors to stretch it. I love that the food is fresh and tastes well seasoned. The guacamole is off the chart. I really do try to control my eating here and find it hard to do that because it is just gooood food. Thank you Los Baez for excellence in food. Thank you Los Baez family for excellence in service. Hold your heads up high you guys because you are the best out there!!!

Not impressed at all. I hope, for their sake I was there on an off day, but I’m not going back to see if they improve. The food was a bit pricier than other restaurants like Guadalajara Grill, Los Arcos, Los Dos Amigos etc., and it wasn’t half as good. I received my fajitas and the meat had no seasoning and I got a scoop of what appeared to be mashed up gooey rice. When my spouse spoke to the manager or who ever he was he said«Oh sorry, it must have been sitting in the pot too long» and he offered us more beans to go. We didn’t take the offer. It was obvious it wasn’t any good, why did they even serve it? Why did they put it on my plate and try to pass it off as edible? On top of that our server/(I think) manager(maybe owner) was not very attentive to the three tables of people that were there… it wasn’t busy at all.

My wife swears by this place, and while I don’t share the same enthusiasm, certain menu items are pretty good. Today dinner, however was pretty substandard, and it wasn’t even the food. Service, usually pretty good here, was sorely lacking. I don’t know if they were understaffed or something, but it was not an efficient dinner, to the point where the food quality became secondary. In a nutshell, after an entire bowl of chips were demolished and sitting and waiting and waiting and waiting, I finally had to get up and go ask of someone was going to take our order. This was strange as there could not have been more then 5 occupied tables. The food then took forever to come out. This was all followed up by one water refill(after having to ask) and no getting a drink order for my daughter(when I mentioned that we would like a milk, he shuffled off and said«in a minute»). We never saw that drink. Again, the food was pretty good but the experience really brought the whole day down. This is likely a 3.5−4 star joint, but definitely not today.

Went here for lunch and I got the Wally Burrito. We got our food about 5 mins after ordering it. Super quick and it was all hot. I really enjoyed myself but my mother had a few issues, the salsa was too hot for her and they gave her refried beans instead of black beans which she had ordered. I would still come back again without hesitation.

Let me start by saying. I love this place but the last few times I’ve been there it has been frustrating and disappointing. We last sat outside on the patio. One of the reasons we go there in the summer is so we can enjoy the out door patio out back. Well, you could tell the server straight away did not care for that. There were some tables filled inside and we were the only ones outside. It appeared that there was only one server so… I’m sorry about that but I’m guessing they need to plan ahead for that. We had a party of five(hmm, a name for a tv show or… but I digress) and so to make things simple, I ordered the same as another person. Well, we substituted chicken for the beef. Well, apparently that did not get relayed to the chef. They gave it to us with beef. We sent it back and we were assured that they would remake the order. They simply picked off the beef and replaced it with chicken. I was able to push past this and move on but some of my table mates refused to eat it after that and sent it back again(I live in fear of what the kitchen will do so elected not too). As I could see how this was going. I elected not to order a drink and drink water. The other folks that ordered drinks got theirs late into the meal. The food here is always good but the service is almost always a miss. I know it’s a family run business so I try to be supportive. I wish I lived closer so I could just get take out because the service makes me crazy.
