El Ranchero Market and Mexican Restaurant

Not sure what is going on with reviews but I suspect some shenanigans with some of the negative reviews. I had two Ala cart chicken tamales here today and they were excellent. The butchery was heavily stocked with really good looking meats and appeared very fresh. I plan on returning for a sit down meal sometime but will definitely get my tamales there.

Great food. Bar b que chicken is very good. Roasted chicken too. Way better than El Fundito. The Mexican bakery and large deli is very colorful and cute. Large eating area. Good weekday chicken lunch special.

Been always wanting to try the BBQ chicken, that came to fruition today! Wow, good stuff! They were out of tortillas and since I could not wait 15 minutes for them, the staff were nice enough to give me my choice of extra beans, or rice «I chose the rice.»
Have read in previous posts that the staff are rude, I firmly believe this not to be the case. They are busy! I find their efficiency most commendable! So if you want to go somewhere and converse with someone while they work, go to Shari’s!
All in all, place was packed! So obviously they are turning out a good product at an affordable price. Will definitely go back and recommend to others!

Very rude customer service. Have gone a couple of times and have been treated the same way every time. They do not seem to care about their customers.

Nasty place and rip off I will never go again!!! The chicken is uncooked and has hair all over it!
The only thing that looked good in there was the bread but we didn’t try! Never again will I go there! I’m sticking to TORITOS for grilled chickens they give you a good portion of rice and beans and tortillas! Disappointed

I live in Eugene but was passing thru Salem from Silverton and stumbled upon this gem! Clean, nice and accommodating staff, the food and ingredients were fresh. The market has great items the meat is very high grade and priced well, nice selection of fresh sweet breads too! From the parking lot you could smell the ribs and chicken on the BBQ they have out front and that is always a good thing! I will be back and make a special trip to Salem just for this place!

The place smells of sewer as soon as you enter the door. I ordered the half BBQ chicken dinner and at first, it looked and smelled great. Once I bit into it, I was horrified to find that it was undercooked. The staff was rude and refused to refund my meal.

You must speak a little (porquito) Spanglish to place an order for meat but it’s worth learning!

Barf! I gave the place one more chance and was turned off by two factors this time: the poopy smell was worse than last time and a new employee (maybe owner?) who was rude as heck and smelled just like the bathroom! His name tag said ‘victor’ and he was decked out in the sweatiest, most filthy shirt I had ever seen and smelled like he was solely responsible for the fece smell dominating the restaurant. Unbelievable!
He acted like he couldn’t understand what I was saying, but then spoke clearly with the person behind me. My order came out after theirs, even though I had just one order of two tacos.
Finally, the salsa bar was just as bad as last time. Although I did not elaborate, it was a wasteland of half melted ice and empty salsa buckets. Two were on their sides, for heaven’s sake!
I’m not even going to mention the flies. Oh, the flies… The absolute sign of uncleanliness.

Excellent place to go in town! Had them cater for my son’s birthday everything was done exceptional and was deliver on time. Everyone felt in love with the food. Have to admit their prices were the best in town. After comparing with local restaurants around the area and doing a few tasting here and their. I decided that they were the ones I needed. I would highly recommend you checking it out!

Within driving distance there are so many better choices of Mexican markets and restaurants. The tacos lacked flavor, and despite the promising grill smoking out front the shrimp were limp and barely cooked. The booths were comfy, which was a sort of consolation prize.

Excellent. Rellano was perfect. Tortillas are certainly made in house. It’s a lot like stepping into a Latin American country, as far at the authenticity goes.

I had some outstanding cheese and jalapeño tamales here today. In the past I have had the burritos and the chilaquiles. All very good. My wife says the huevos rancheros was good to.

Fantastic homemade tortillas for their tacos! Had the fresh pescado, carnitas, pollo, and lengua. They were all VERY good! Definitely coming back!

I come here pretty often for lunch, as it shares a parking lot with my work. The two ladies that work at the front are really nice. Food is great and the prices are fair. But the bathroom stinks, and you are wise to sit near the front of the building. Do not go in the bathroom unless your life depends on it. This place would EASILY get 5 stars from me if they fixed the bathroom issue… I say give it a shot, the food is worth it!

I go here to buy meat and other groceries for dinner. I love how clean it always is unlike other meat markets in town. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They also have a good variety of Mexican products that are hard to find anywhere else. I moved from California and that always seems like a challenge is to find products like they have here. Recommend it. Best Mexican market in town.

Interesting place I really liked it but seems somewhat disorganized. Also I noticed a bad smell near rest rooms. Food slightly better than average. I doubt I will go out of my way to come back.

WOW. We were the only gringos in the restaurant which often speaks well of the quality of the food. But the food was even better than we expected. The Mole was some of the best we have had in a restaurant other than Rick Bayless’ places in Chicago. In addition the Camarones a La Diabla were also great — very spicy and well cooked. I recommend anyone who wants authentic Mexican food (don’t let my address fool you, I am originally from Arizona) should come here.
